A BLATANT SCAM: SPIT-SIZED PIZZAS AT THE PRICE OF REGULAR SIZED PIZZAS EVERYWHERE ELSE. The business is essentially based on a scam, and the name of the business (90 grams) is literally a description of such scam.
Prices are comparable to all the pizzerias in the area, but the quantity of food you get is less than half of what you get anywhere else. And at the moment of ordering, the owner lies to you, telling you that you are ordering a normal-sized pizza.
When I arrived, the owner approached me with the pizza menu, explaining that all of the pizzas can be ordered in a normal or in a big size for the same exact price indicated on the menu.
Upon hearing this, I was excited to order a LARGE pizza, since it costs the same. But the owner discouraged me by saying "But the smaller size pizza tastes better". This was already mysterious: why would a smaller pizza taste better? Aren't they using the same ingredients for the large pizzas?
Convinced by his words, I decided to order a "Normal" sized pizza. When the pizza arrived to my table, I was utterly shocked. The dimensions of the pizza were less than half of what everyone in the world considers a "NORMAL sized" pizza.
I am italian: i know something about pizza sizes. No other restaurant in the whole world considers "normal-size" a pizza whose area does not even match the area of the palm your hand.
The owner's business idea basically is built upon saving on ingredients by deceiving customers and manipulating them into ordering a spit-sized pizza. This leads them to order another pizza immediately thereafter, as they will be hungry. So, the owner thinks he is smart and that people don't see the scam.
What is even more outrageous, is that the owner tries to disguise his scam into a "brilliant" business idea: through his innoviative design of small pizzas, he lets the customers try a wide variety of pizzas, as explained on the menu. Except, the price you pay is the same as regularly sized pizzas everywhere else (we are talking nearly 500 baht for one pizza).
If owner is really willing to be competitive and let customers try a lot of pizzas, prices should be competitive and match the size of such pizzas. And he should not sell them as "normal sized" (a blatant lie), but rather as "size for tasting".
Out of curiosity, I ordered a large pizza just after - it is barely what everyone else in the world considers normal size.
I STRONGLY DISCOURAGE ANYONE TO EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT. THE OWNER IS A SCAMMER AND MANIPULATES THE CUSTOMER INTO ORDERING MORE THAN WHAT...
Read more“Making pizza sexy” could be the tagline for 90 Grams. And that’s not because it is near one of Bangkok’s colorful nightlife areas.
The tagline is apt because pizza, pasta, and drinks at 90 Grams is a fun, fun, fun dining experience.
Walking up the stairs – decorated with rock/punk band posters and empty wine bottles – you get a sense that this is a pizza joint unlike any other in Bangkok.
This is confirmed at the top of the stairs, where customers can peek into the busy kitchen and the “pizza in progress” sign above it. The dining area, meanwhile, is bright, lively, filled with cool art, pizza boxes, and enhanced by hip hop played at an ok volume level.
The restaurant was close to full, and fellow patrons were mostly youngish folks, including office workers, students, and tourists having a good time. Frankly, if you’re not jazzed, amped, excited, stirred, or shaken by the 90 Grams buzz and atmosphere, check your pulse.
Now onto the food – it is as good as the 90 Gram vibe. We like our pizzas as simple as possible (where the ingredients can do their thing), and the 90 Gram margarita hit all the marks – soft, chewy, delicious dough, a good amount of gooey cheese, and tomato sauce that was fresh, tangy, and didn’t come out of a can.
The calamari tasted as good as the squid served at Carmines in New York, while the vongole combined fresh clams enhanced with a good dollop of butter and lemon juice to produce a next-level pasta.
Service-wise, the wait staff were warm and friendly and moved fast to set a table for us. Special mention of the server with tiger stripes on her face, and the maître de who turned out to be a big Joy Division fan like me.
Given the great night we enjoyed, and the big food and drinks menu to be discovered and devoured, 90 Grams is on the must-return list, and we’re already counting down until our...
Read moreAlmost completed an order via Grab, but staff who picked up the phone was very impolite.
I called 3 times because it was shown on my phone that Grab couldn’t find a driver and that I can cancel. I wanted to call to ask the restaurant if they’d already made the order. if so, ill drive to pick it up. all with good intentions.
the staff picked up the phone on the 3rd call, but all i heard was her talking about other order/topics for 30 secs while i was saying hi to them and trying to ask if they could hear me for 5-6 times. then the moment the staff answered, it was with ‘ว่าไงคะ‘ with a could-not-care-less attitude, which is equivalent to ‘what?’ in english. i changed my mind right away and wanted to cancel. i explained that i called 2 times before and no one picked up. she answered ‘ก็ติดลูกค้าออร์เดอร์ก่อนหน้า เค้าจะสั่งเพิ่มอะค่ะ‘ and waited to be excused. no. with her tone of voice, absence of managing skill, and lack of understanding about the situation, i insisted on cancelling. she continued with the same attitude until conversation ended.
i wouldnt expect any restaurant, especially of this review and recommendation to have a staff who clearly don’t know how to handle customer politely. at least she should mention restaurant name when she picked up the phone, and ask if she could be of any help. but most importantly, she...
