I have never been so disappointed and shocked by a restaurant in my life. We were served raw chicken. It was completely pink and under cooked. Unfortunately my friend ate quite a lot of it before realising. When we told the staff, they showed no remorse or even attempted to appreciate the gravity of the situation. Despite the fact that my friend had undoubtedly got food poisoning, even salmonella, from the food, our waiter was laughing and seemed even to be enjoying the fact that we were quite stressed and upset.
This brings me on to my other major issue with the restaurant. The waitor Justin is rude. He was mocking me and my friend the whole time for being Indian, despite the fact we said we were from London. He parodied an Inidan accent at us even though we speak in very heavy London accents and have lived there all our life. Even after the chicken incident, when we were paying, he looked at my credit card name and said "you lot love your Indian names don't you". This was even when my friend was really upset. He made us feel really uncomfortable for looking and being different than everyone else. Just for context, we are two young girls and have never felt so upset and racially profiled in our lives. Lastly, when we were leaving I asked the waiter his name, and he covered his name tag and lied to me about his name. Fortunately my friend had already seen that his name was Justin. Don't go to this restaurant if you like a salmonella-free life and believe in respecting people no matter their...
Read moreI have walked past this place a few times over the years and always thought, "I must try it one day."
Yesterday, caught in an almighty thunderstorm as I walked past it, I seized the moment and took refuge. I now regret not having tried it sooner.
Inside it is a beautifully decorated restaurant on two floors. I hadn't booked and was ushered upstairs to a nearly empty room. Within about ten minutes, it was almost full and the ambiance was harmonious and jolly. The room was served by two highly professional members of serving staff aided by colleagues heaving trays of culinary delicacies upstairs.
During the meal, there was even a display of traditional Thai dancing.
The meal itself: I had pork belly, pork ribs with five spices & squid and chilies served with a bowl of rice followed by mango sticky rice.
The pork dish was an explosion of flavours which were perfectly balanced. The squid was slightly crunchy on the outside and superbly tender on the inside and the intensity of the chili was just right. The mango with the sticky rice was perfectly ripe and the rice itself was topped with delicately toasted mung beans.
A heavenly meal which deserves at...
Read moreWhile my friend and I were waiting to be seated in last Thursday evening for dinner. I suddenly felt ill of vomiting. Before my friend and I could do anything, I already passed out on the ground before a staff member arrived with a chair. (My friend told me that he tried to pull me up 3 times before Staff)
When I started to feel better. I felt a cold towel being applied to my arms and face. When I finally managed to open my eyes. I saw myself sat on a chair and there was a South European staff member trying to make me feel better. He offered me a can of coke. There was another female Asian staff member who brought me a product (menthol inhaler)
My friend decided to help me return to the hotel, The staff refused our offer to pay for the coke or tips. I was truly grateful of their kindness.
Sadly I was unable to visit the restaurant again because it was my last night in BBK But I will definitely go back because the Mango Tree Restaurant is now one of my favorite restaurants even I hadn't have the pleasure to taste the delicious food l heard they...
