Dewan Bangkok was recommended by a relative who regularly breaks the journey in Bangkok when travelling between her homes in Munich and Perth (Western Australia, not Scotland) It is a delightful hotel, clean throughout, quiet with spacious rooms, large comfortable bed and an arabian influenced decor and building style. The shower is a good size and hot water always available. The tap work is a little quirky in function but the exposed copper look suits the decor. The rooftop pool is not huge but the water is cool and the rooftop decking and seating areas are somewhat rustic but still a pleasant place to spend some time relaxing. The view is not too shabby either. ||||All the staff are friendly and the 24 hour concierge/reception a blessing. So too the well away from the maddening crowd ATM in the foyer. The Dewan is located in a backpackers area so be prepared for lots of young ones wearing elephant motif pants and the street does fill with stalls selling all manner of items. Plenty of massage outlets and every fifth shop seems to be selling weed/ganja now that it is legal. Khao San Road is a short walk away but are there plenty of restaurants from which to choose in every direction. The Dewan does not do breakfast but the Sunny Side Up Cafe is a few doors away and does the best coffee around with some good food options. It has a trendy vibe with some clever marketing angles. Speaking of short walks, the Grand Palace is an easy stroll away and this also means water transport is close by and therefore an option to beat the peak hour road traffic blues. There is no MRT station close by, so Grab/Uber/Taxi and boats are the go if visiting somewhere beyond walking distance… such as Jim Thompson House (highly. recommend this).||||If you are bored of 4 and 5 star hotels (as we are), the Dewan Bangkok is a good option. Full of character, well priced and well worthy of consideration...
Read more[MUST-READ REVIEW] The worst hotel in my life ever.
2 months ago, I made a reservation(a deluxe room) using HOTEL.COM, non refundable. I arrived in the hotel around 2:15 pm(check in time is after 2PM.) I did not come late. But recpetion was bad. After about 20 minutes, I heard we should go to another similar hotel because the room I booked was having some problems. I got angry and asked for a reason. The manager of the hotel said the raining caused leaking problem which I don't really believe.(It rains a lot in this region) The manager said that they sent an email explaining the problem and an alternative hotel that I could use. But I found out that the email was sent only an hour and a half before I arrived the hotel. In addition, there were no hotel names in the e-mail. I had to carry lots of luggages and I was very exhausted. But the hotel did not offer any decent transportations or compensations for their mistakes. The driver of TUck TUck, which the hotel arranged for us finally, asked for too much tip and he said I had to pay the fare. It is a joke. The hotel I finally arrived was the place that nobody wanted to stay. There was no window and the room condition was just horrible. It was dirty and near construnction sites, so the noise was just unbearable. Of cousre, I complained about the room condition because It was not the hotel that I booked and paid. After a while, the manager came and offered a free breakfast and free access to hotel's pool for the compensation. This is just simply a joke. My last comment is this : Dont you dare use this place. This will ruin your...
Read moreLocation is right next to Kao Shan road but not close enough to hear all the loud noise it’s about 3 minutes away. The location is great, there’s little markets outside during the day selling food and clothes. There’s a Starbucks 4 mins away right next to Burger King and a 24 hour McDonald’s on the other side. Hotel itself is a bit dated but not bad. It’s giving Arabic style. There’s a rooftop swimming pool but didn’t go inside as it was raining. The room is quite spacious but definitely not as big as it looks in the pictures. The rooms lights are very dim, which can be a bit annoying when doing make up at night as there isn’t any good lighting anywhere. I noticed 2 bed bugs on my first day and some hair in the bathroom sink. The shower wasn’t the cleanest. There’s small shelves which had built up dust so obviously it hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly. The small cushions in the room had a stale smell so clearly they hadn’t been washed either. The bathroom shower door has a small gap so be prepared for the whole bathroom to have a small flood. The air con is super super loud. I visited during September so I turned it off at night but every now and then there was a loud machine sound which was a bit annoying when you’re trying to sleep. If you ask reception they can give you earplugs. Other than that, the hotel isn’t so bad and the staff are lovely. Beautiful service...
