My stay at Khaosan Social Capsule Hostel was an average experience, with some appealing features for budget travelers but also a few noticeable drawbacks. The location is a major plus, just a 4-minute walk from Khaosan Road’s vibrant nightlife and street food stalls, and a short distance from the Grand Palace, making it very convenient for exploring Bangkok’s attractions. The capsules were functional, equipped with a comfortable mattress, blackout curtains, and personal lockers, offering decent privacy for a hostel stay. The rooftop terrace was a nice addition, hosting social events like group dinners and occasional yoga sessions, which created a friendly atmosphere for meeting other travelers. Café Mumbai downstairs provided a variety of Indian dishes, like butter chicken and naan, as well as pizzas, which were decent for a quick meal, though not particularly memorable. On the other hand, the facilities felt fairly basic. The bathrooms, located outside the dorms, were generally clean but often hot and humid without air conditioning, which was uncomfortable in Bangkok’s climate. The no-luggage-in-dorms policy meant storing bags in a crowded hallway, and the lockers were too small for larger backpacks, making organization a bit of a hassle. The staff were inconsistent—some were welcoming and chatty during check-in, but others provided vague or brief answers when I asked about local transport or nearby attractions like the Chao Phraya River pier, just a short walk away, which left me to figure things out on my own. Noise from nearby bars also seeped into the capsules at night, though earplugs helped mitigate this. I’ve attached photos of the capsule interior, bathroom, and rooftop terrace to give a sense of the place. For those looking for a budget-friendly stay near Khaosan Road with a social vibe, this hostel is a reasonable option, but it comes with some limitations in comfort and service, so keep...
Read moreGreat hostel with incredible social atmosphere. Everyone is super friendly and happy to chat so it’s a great place to make friends. The hostel runs social activities and free yoga every day which is a fun and easy way to see the city and meet other people. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
The hostel is clean and the capsules are well-isolated to provide privacy. They are very simple capsules with only bedding and one universal outlet inside. It is fairly quiet most of the time, however I did have some issues where other guests would occasionally be noisy in the late morning, and one time I could hear music and singing from the rooftop bar in my capsule (this died down around 2am). My capsule was on the 3rd floor, so it would probably be quieter on the 2nd floor. The lockers are sizeable and were able to fit a carry-on sized luggage, backpack and 4 small bags. The rooms and locker are both secure with a wristband required for entry.
Location is convenient especially if you are into partying as it is super close to Khaosan road. There’s loads of restaurants and food stalls around the area at all hours. It is also within walking distance to the ferry station, the Grand Palace and a few other destinations. Unfortunately it is located a bit far from a subway station which limits how far away you can go in the city, but you can walk south 30 minutes to the nearest one if you need, and the are plenty of bus stops around the...
Read moreHad a great stay here! I arrived there at 9pm and it was raining outside, but then the staffs were all so helpful and welcoming. My room was in the 3rd floor and they helped me to brought up my luggage.
All the rooms are quite nice and clean, which is a very plus point. They do provide some social events for all the guests, so if you’re the kind of person who likes to meet with new people while traveling, this is the place.
As for the safety, they do assign each guests with a bracelet where you need to tap to get into your room and open your locker. I almost lost mine, but all good 😅 there’s a fine if you lost your bracelet access. Overall, good safety!
And last, it is very near to some of very famous place like Grand Palace, Wat Arun, and Chinatown. It’s also close enough to the pier so you can get on a boat and cruise the chao praya river. There’s also a tour from the hostel if you want to watch sunset on the boat in chao praya but I didn’t try that.
Overall, first time to stay here and I’m not disappointed. Would definitely recommend my friends who want to...
