As a flight attendant for major airlines and a former kindergarten teacher, I have made it a point to research and visit libraries around the world. AND collect library cards from countries all around the world. I recently embarked on my first trip to Asia with a friend. So hopeful to get my South Korea and Thailand library cards. I did indeed get my library card in Korea, not speaking the language and using Google Translate. Easy peasy in and out. With kindness and a smile. Not so much in Thailand! I tried in Chiang Mai, the librarian shook his head no and pointed to a Facebook page. In Phuket, the machine was down. So I researched again and treked across town to get one at the Bangkok City Library... the girl said no day passes because machine was down. I showed the Google translate statement saying I just wanted a card not important if it's active, can even be blank or even out of the trash can! Just the card for my collection. The two front desk workers were clearly trying to come up with a solution, and the supervisor very rudely said "no you don't have a work visa for Thailand. "... I had my display case of other country's library cards I have gotten and at that time one of the desk workers pulled out a Thailand library card and I said "yes like that just the card" the supervisor said "no it has someone else's name on it" I repeated "can I have a blank one" she said "NO". It's literally the silliest most curt decline I have ever had! And I have gotten cards from former communist countries and countries affected by war and even one reeling from hurricane devastation! I have donated money or paid fees just with the knowledge that it's an honor to have a public library system and we all should have deep respect for the staff and the community which supports these wonderful institutions. However even if you want to do all that... you won't get a blank library card from here. And not even a...

As a traveler, I always make a point to visit local libraries wherever I go. Bangkok City library did not disappoint! With just my passport, I was given a day pass to explore the impressive architecture and diverse collection of books.

Although foreign and English language books were not the main focus, I still found plenty of interesting titles that catered to my interests. The first floor offered a great collection of travel books in English, while the second floor had an abundance of books in various foreign languages - my personal favorite.

What impressed me the most was the variety of tables and chairs available, suitable for any type of reader. There were even places to charge my devices and work on my laptop. Plus, the restrooms were spacious and clean, complete with full-body scan mirrors!

As I observed, people of different age groups and diverse backgrounds came to read, work, and study. That was inspiring. I hope this library continues to attract more visitors because there are still plenty of available seats. It pained me to see the AC could benefit so many more people.

Overall, Bangkok City library is a fantastic place to spend a few hours, whether you're a local or a tourist. The well-maintained environment, diverse collection of books, and comfortable reading areas cater to all types of readers. I highly recommend...

The Bangkok City Library is a fantastic place for book lovers and those seeking a quiet space for reading and studying. The library is located in the heart of Bangkok, making it easily accessible by public transportation.

The library offers a wide selection of books, both in Thai and English, as well as access to various electronic resources. The reading rooms are spacious and comfortable, and there are plenty of desks and chairs for studying and working. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful, providing an ideal environment for focused learning.

One of the best things about the Bangkok City Library is that it's completely free to use. Visitors only need to register for a library card, which can be done quickly and easily on-site. The library also offers a range of events and activities, including workshops and book clubs, making it a great place to meet other like-minded individuals and engage with the community.

Overall, the Bangkok City Library is a top-notch facility that offers a wealth of resources and services to the public. Whether you're a student, researcher, or just looking for a peaceful place to read, this library is definitely...

I'd love to give this 5 stars. It is light-filled, cool and comfortable. It's quiet and chill without rigidity or forced silence. The work on the building and the decoration is understated and elegant with comfortable sofas and chairs, little work desks and private areas for private or group study. A diverse Thai clientele of middle aged and older readers mingling with a young nerdy college crowd. The reason I can't stretch to 5 stars is the book selection and that matters in a library, right? I can't speak for the Thai language collections and didn't venture in to the rare books collection but the English selection is just adequate. A great way to spend a few nerdy hours with your feet tucked under your bum reading, sketching and whiling away time in the hottest part of the day. 😊

This is my favourite place in Bangkok for 2 reasons. #1: the building is beautiful and calm. It's a serene and quiet place to study, work, think and be captivated by its architectural beauty. #2: the staff are absolutely incredible. I went to the cafe to get a coffee and when I was ordering, my headphones accidentally slipped behind the counter, getting stuck. They spent at least 20 minutes using umbrellas, display pictures and eventually rigged up...well I'm not even sure but they got my headphones out! My heros! Thank you so much to the library staff for giving me a safe place to work and a stomach that hurt from laughing my face off. You are all amazing.
