I stayed at NapPark for 4 nights while exploring Bangkok and found my stay here to be quite the rollercoaster.
Upon checking-in the lady who helped me was extremely rude and unfriendly. She was playing a game of beer pong and you could tell she didn't want to be helping anyone. Over the course of the next few days it was interesting to see and hear how she helped other guests and there wasn't much of a difference. She could definitely use a soft skill course in how to treat people.
After that I settled into my room and had a good 1st night there. However after my first night is where the rollercoaster really began.
On my 2nd night a more adult gentleman checked in, probably around his 50's and he did not give off the vibes you would like in your dorm. Especially in a dorm with 5 other guys. He was quite the starer and awkward personality and I honestly don't know what would have happened if any of the British boys weren't always in the room. The boys also received some interesting vibes from this gentleman.
For my 3rd night the airconditioning broke down in our room and the temperature raised soo high it was actually loads warmer in the bedroom than outside...
On my 4th night the hostel changed me to a different room with functioning airconditioning, which I was very grateful of. I sadly got placed in a room with four friends who do not care about anyone else but themselves. *So coming in at 00:30 in the morning with extreme noise is normal, right? *Laughing and bantering at 1 in the morning and saying: Oh well, you know how loud we are. Isn't a reason to live up to your damn stereotype of your country. *Stamping and being loud till around 2 in the morning due to you not being ready to go to bed yet, isn't a reason to not be quiet. *Since I already had such a quality sleep I was hoping so sleep in till around 9:30, even that wasn't possible. They had alarms ringing at 7:30/8am and just left the room and left them ringing. Because that is normal? *They decided that a full repack and smashing things around at that time in the morning, besides them having loud conversations and laughing was also "normal".
To be honest, my entire stay can be classified as a series of unlucky events, but it did however determine how I experienced my stay.
The hostel definitely has certain good qualities as well as: The manager hearing about the 2nd night and was willing to move me. Luckily the gentleman in question moved out; Well pressured showers; Cleaning ladies that keep the toilets in decent condition; The kind morning staff at reception; I found the hard mattresses quite decent, yet I prefer that anyway; You have a light and a socket at every bed; Big lockers per guest in the room available; Bathrooms on every floor; Nice high table downstairs in the common area to do some work at; Very social common area; And the location of the hostel is great.
There are also some things that could use some improvements: There are no proper curtains on the bed; They say they have AC, yet they turn it off from 12/6pm; If you have served in the army, you can compare their bunkbeds with those. The lower bed is essentially sleeping on the ground; The deluxe room photos are not a good representation of what you are getting; The paper towels in the bathroom are tissues, it just really isn't made for drying your hands; It's cheaper to pay for a Grab or Bolt than their hostel taxi service, even if you travel solo; 2nd floor toilets had barely any flush power; The showers are in need of a scrub down and don't have locks?;
I really liked the location of the hostel, the staff they have in the morning and how easy it is to meet people there. I would however contemplate about staying here ever again if this hostel attracts and accepts certain...
Read moreAfter a long tiring night train journey to Bangkok we were allowed early check in at 7:30am by a super friendly woman on reception at the time. There was only two bunks until others checked out that day (which was fine as we are a travelling as two couples so we shared singles). It has decent bathrooms with great showers. The atmosphere seemed good here too and rather busy considering. When receiving our other bunks it wasn’t until we started to get ready for bed that I noticed my bedding and sheets hadn’t been changed at all. They were dirty with brown stains from where someone had been sat/laid previously (I dread to think what it was). The pillows smelt of sweat too. When asking the woman politely on the night shift to get my bedding changed she pulled a face and acted quite rude towards us. I even offered to bunk back up with my partner to save the hassle with it been late but she shrugged and insisted it got changed. After the maid changed them we then noticed what could only be explained as “stains” on the wall from which ever male had been there before (see picture) which dripped all the way down to the bunk below. We also miss placed one of our bags one day (which turned out to be in my friends locker) and asked the same lady on reception if she could help us and again she didn’t want to know, didn’t even offer to check CCTV, just said “no ones checked out today“ (even though one of the bunks had been made up when we got in and another person arrived the next morning). Checked out and spent our last night across the road instead which had clean and tidy dorms with...
Read moreNapPark is the perfect place to stay for anyone on an adventure to Bangkok. I've stayed at NapPark so many times, I've lost count how many times I've returned. It's my favourite place to stay in Bangkok and one of the best hostels I've every stayed in.
All of the staff here are some of the friendliest I've come across at any hostel. They will go out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable.
It's a unique place as it's so easy to meet people with mattress setup in the main lounge area. You'll regularly find people chilling here, chatting over drinks. It's so simple yet effective.
The rooms are also super comfy. Whilst some sleep a lot of people, they are still very private, as each bed is closed off by a set of curtains.
NapPark is located two streets down from Khao San Road. So you benefit from being close to all of the action, whilst being far enough away for it to be peaceful. It's also pretty hidden, down a small alley way so it's off of the main street.
This is the place I always stay now when travelling through Bangkok. If you're planning to stay, book early, as it gets full...
