Traveling in any major city, it can be hard to find a hotel with the right scale: large enough to offer experienced service from trained staff and high-quality F&B, but small enough to feel personal, relaxed, even residential. Ecole St. Pierre manages to balance these approaches well, with a high-quality boutique experience in a design-forward building.

Tucked onto a quiet street in the old Genoese neighborhood, in the shadow of the Galata tower, this former school has been painstakingly renovated to craft a chic boutique hotel centered around a domestic courtyard, which plays host to the hotel’s restaurants and bar. The rooms are spacious, well-lit, and appointed with simple furnishings redolent of Scandi modernism: textured boucle fabrics in soft grays and blues, warm lighting filtered through rattan, plush rugs on oak floors. Our room featured a sitting room with a sofa, a massive terrace with a sofa, rocking chairs, a small dining table, and awnings—in addition to a comfy bed and upholstered headboard.

We found the room to be the ideal respite from our adventurous exploring of Istanbul, and the location—in a fashionable neighborhood in the hills of Beyoğlu—both close to the action of Kariköy, Taksim square, and a short tram ride to Sultanahmet on other side of the Golden Horn and removed from the tourist traps of the Old City.

Breakfast was a delight: table service of refined Turkish breakfast (much preferred to the breakfast buffet, which always seems so hectic) served in the hotel’s restaurant, with old city walls displayed in the dining room, and a plant-filled courtyard just outside.

Service was attentive without being overbearing. When we needed assistance with restaurant reservations or even finding a doctor (thank you, Yusuf!), the staff were accommodating and quick to address our needs, whether by WhatsApp or in-person. In our last few minutes at the hotel, as we lounged at a table in the courtyard, staff immediately came over to offer us a parting coffee. I mentioned in our booking that our trip is a celebration of our 12th anniversary, and the staff kindly prepared a cake and bottle of wine for us—a thoughtful and much appreciated touch.

For those guests who want a large resort (with a pool, hammam, etc.), this hotel is not for you. But for guests seeking a small, private hotel with courteous service, chic rooms, and a place to lounge in your downtime, this...

We absolutely loved our stay here. It’s a newly renovated boutique hotel which has retained so much of it’s original character. It’s got everything you need in a hotel: great location, super clean and comfortable rooms, delicious food and most importantly lovely staff!

The team at the reception was very welcoming, helpful and approachable. They placed welcome Tiramisu’s in our room which were the best we’ve ever had (such a lovely gesture to welcome guests). Unfortunately, we’re writing this review a few months after our visit and we’ve forgotten the names of the amazing staff - we are so sorry!!!

We like minimalistic, modern and white rooms and these were tastefully designed. The designers didn’t think of some of the functional elements like charging ports next to the bed but the hotel staff are well aware of this and made sure we had extension cables before we even had to ask for it!

The breakfast was abundant and delicious! The main courtyard was closed for a private event on our first day and we were served breakfast at the adjacent i guru cafe lounge and I have to say I liked that even better! The Italian restaurant was also a must try!

Great location - a quick walk to the tram.

Negative:

All the rooms overlook the hotel’s main courtyard so any noise in that area can be heard in the room and can be quite disruptive if you are a light sleeper like I am. On our first night the hotel was getting ready to host a private event the next day for a cosmetics brand. An outsourced event agency spent the whole night till about 5am setting up which included dragging furniture across the stone floor. When we complained the next day the hotel staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable by upgrading us to a less noisy room and leaving a little gift in our room. The events of the previous night were quickly forgiven and forgotten but I think it important to mention for other light sleepers - just to ensure no events are happening.

All in all, I would go back again for sure on my next visit...

Complimenten.

Charming Stay at Ecole St Pierre Hotel – A True Istanbul Delight! Walking into the Ecole St Pierre Hotel was like stepping back in time, thanks to its unique location within the historic Genoese Walls, built between 1304-1317 during the Eastern Roman Empire. This boutique gem in Istanbul wraps you in a cozy and inviting atmosphere, where history meets modern comfort. The rooms, well-appointed and snug, made settling in a breeze. From the moment we arrived, Gökberk, the receptionist, set a welcoming tone with his polite, professional, and warm demeanor, proving to be an excellent host. His attentiveness ensured a smooth check-in and a great start to our stay. Breakfast was another highlight, where the fresh, quality Turkish delights each morning set the tone with vibrant flavors and wholesome choices. Hakan, the attendant, provided service that made each meal delightful and memorable. For anyone looking for a warm, friendly place to stay, where ancient walls echo centuries of history and mornings start with exceptional service and flavors, Ecole St Pierre offers this and so much more. Whether you’re gearing up for a day of sightseeing or a leisurely day in, the staff here, from Gökberk’s warm welcome to Hakan’s breakfast service, will make sure you have everything you need. Don’t just take my word for it—make your next Istanbul trip one to remember by staying here!

absolutely thrilled to share my incredible experience during my recent stay at Ecole St Pierre Hotel in Istanbul. From the moment we arrived, it was evident that this was going to be a special stay. The staff treated my family and me like their own, making us feel truly welcomed and cherished. What made the experience even more remarkable was when they learned it was my mom's 50th birthday. Without much prompting, they surprised us by upgrading us to their historical suites. The level of attention to detail was astounding. Walking into our suite, we were greeted with a display of cake, champagne, Turkish wine, and fresh fruit. But that's not all – the surprises kept coming. The personal touch of hand-written cards added an extra layer of warmth to our stay. It was clear that every element had been carefully thought out to make us feel special and valued. The entire experience at Ecole St Pierre Hotel was beyond our expectations. The hotel's on duty managers dedication to creating meaningful memories sets it apart. The exceptional service and hospitality we received will make this a stay to remember for a lifetime.
