Date of visit: 10/10/2021. Well, I can say this was quite an interesting experience, but unfortunately for the wrong reasons. After passing through security, we entered a room, where a lady sitting behind a desk immediately informed us that to enter the museum it would cost 45 TL per person (we were 2 people). I was shocked by this, as there is no written information whatsoever, either on their website, or at the entrance to the building, to indicate that there is a fee to enter the museum. Lots of information about opening days / hours, and the security procedures, but nothing at all regarding entry fees! The aforementioned lady replied, somewhat sarcastically, “We are a museum. Do you know of any museums in İstanbul which are free to enter?”. In fact, yes, we have previously been to Aşiyan Museum (Rumeli Hisarı area), Sait Faik Abasıyanık Museum (Burgazada) and Doğançay Museum (Beyoğlu), all of which were free to enter. When I mentioned two of these to the lady, she offered no response. I’m pretty sure these will not be the only free museums either in a city of this size. Anyway, she then informed me that we were the first ever visitors to the museum who had been surprised to learn there was an entrance fee! Well, maybe we really are unique in this respect, who knows, but one thing is for sure, this museum is also truly unique in that it must be the only one in the whole world which makes no mention either on its website or on signs at the entrance that there is a fee to enter, or indeed how much it costs! And as for the cost itself, well I have since read a review on Google (right here where I writing this) that another visitor paid 30 TL to enter just one month ago. So, has the cost increased by 15 TL in just one month? Really? Of course, it is entirely at the discretion of the museum how much they charge visitors to enter, but a little transparency would be nice. Needless to say that after our brief exchange with the lady in question, we chose not to...

Karaköy Zülfaris sinagogu. Normalde kapalı. Bazen sergiler vesilesiyle açılıyor. Eskiden Galata Musevi cemaatinin dini nikahları burada kıyılırmış. Bir rivayete göre de adı oradan geliyor. Zülf-i arus.

For a history geek jewish history is an interesting one: so much diversity from such a small community. This museum is quintessentially Turkish: covering antiquity to today but mainly spanning the time between the spanish exile and early 20th century. Many interesting elements of the culture is explained in sufficient text material and visuals/physical objects. You get to walk inside the synagogue itself and also visit the art gallery downstairs. The whole complex is not that big but is packed densely -totally enjoyed it, think I got my money's worth!

It’s quite nice place to visit and it’s generally informative. However, entering this museum is very hectic and isn’t a pleasant experience..! You have to hand your ID, get searched with metal detectors as if you are entering an airport.. then a huge, black steel door is opened.. to be honest, that was a little creepy..! But once you get through this unpleasant journey, you can find a lot of interesting and informative exhibits. Note: it’s quite a small museum.

Splendid place. Entrance fee was 120 TRY, you can purchase a keyring aswell. You are allowed to take photographs in the Museum and the Synagogue. There were airport-like security checks at the entrance. Museum was extremely informative and the Synagogue was very pleasant. Overall highly recommended, a must-visit.
