Göçmen Artisan Bakery Galata sits proudly opposite the iconic Galata Tower, boasting a stunning rooftop terrace that offers breathtaking views of Istanbul’s sprawling skyline—a perfect backdrop for any meal.
FOOD:
The kitchen impresses with a full menu available from early morning, a rarity in the area. The tomato soup was a standout, rich and well-balanced with a vibrant depth of flavor. The potato frittata, while not quite true to Spanish tradition, was enjoyable, with a fluffy omelet complemented by well-seasoned potatoes. The crispy mantı with meat filling was delightful, though the filling itself could have packed a bit more punch. The chicken with pearl barley was a mixed bag—the chicken leaned dry, but the barley was a revelation, cooked to perfection with a comforting, nutty flavor. We capped the meal with the local favorite, the Basque cheesecake, which was indulgent and tasty but a touch too rich to finish in one sitting.
SERVICE:
The service was commendable, with friendly and attentive waitstaff who kept things moving smoothly. Orders arrived promptly, and the team’s warm demeanor added a welcoming touch to the bustling atmosphere.
VERDICT:
Göçmen Artisan Bakery Galata is a refreshing find in the heart of Galata, offering a diverse menu from 7 AM that goes beyond the usual Turkish breakfast or eggs. With its European-inspired vibe, stunning rooftop views, and generally solid fare, it’s a spot worth visiting. While some dishes could use a bit more finesse, the overall experience—paired with reasonable prices for the area—makes it a recommended stop for those exploring Istanbul’s...
Read moreI had saved this place on social media before our Galata trip. It’s right next to Galata, with a 360-degree view of Istanbul, the menu is extensive and the reviews were good. Honestly, I went in thinking, “It’s probably overrated, but let’s check it out,” and it truly surprised me! 🤩
The terrace view is absolutely breathtaking! 😍 On one side you have the Galata Tower right next to you, and on the other, the Golden Horn… I can’t think of a better café to bring friends visiting Istanbul.
Luckily, even though we went on a Saturday at 12:00 PM, there were still seats available on the terrace! We ordered Turkish coffee, an iced americano, a mosaic cake, and a cinnamon bun. The coffees were great. The mosaic cake was far better than most I’ve had elsewhere, especially the chocolate, which was excellent. The cinnamon bun was soft, moist, and delicious.
The staff were also incredibly friendly. While eating the cinnamon bun, we unfortunately found a hair in it 😕 but when I mentioned it to the waiter, they handled it so well. They immediately offered to bring a new one, replace it with something else, or remove it from the bill. These days it’s rare to see such attentive service, so their polite apology and the options they gave were genuinely refreshing.
I’ve attached a photo of our bill as well. Considering the neighborhood and this view, I actually didn’t find the prices too over the top for Istanbul. The only thing I’m not a big fan of is the added service charge. 😒
From now on, every time I visit Galata or take guests sightseeing, I’ll definitely be coming...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting a charming café during my holiday in Turkey, and it was a delightful experience. The cafe, situated conveniently close to my hotel, offered a cozy and inviting atmosphere. I opted for a sandwich that exceeded my expectations – a perfect blend of cheese, tomato, and pastrami. The flavors harmonized beautifully, creating a delicious combination that left a lasting impression.
To complement my meal, I indulged in both Turkish coffee and tea. The Turkish coffee, rich and robust, showcased the distinctive preparation that sets it apart. The intensity of the coffee was balanced by the subtle sweetness, making it a delightful treat. The Turkish tea, served in traditional glasses, added an authentic touch to the experience.
What stood out beyond the delectable food and beverages was the warm hospitality of the staff. They were attentive, friendly, and contributed significantly to the overall positive ambiance of the place. The cafe's unique blend of flavorful dishes, cultural authenticity, and exceptional service make it a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable culinary...
