Meroddi La Porta: The Hotel with the Heart of Galata
Istanbul must be my favourite city in the world. I’ve traveled here many times and stayed in wonderful spaces, but nothing quite compares to Meroddi La Porta. I was lucky enough to return for a second stay within just four months, and I already know—I will be back again and again. Once more, the staff and facilities exceeded all my expectations. As a seasoned traveller, my expectations are high.
This was a long stay, and from the moment I arrived, the team at Meroddi La Porta welcomed me with true hospitality and care—making sure every need was met. I didn’t want to leave.
The location is unmatched, but what truly sets this hotel apart is its people. The entire team is exceptional—from the front desk to housekeeping to the breakfast staff at the rooftop restaurant. Every person goes above and beyond to ensure a seamless and truly memorable stay.
I was especially excited to return and see Sevgi, who handles guest relations with immense warmth, kindness, responsiveness, and attentiveness. She remembered me from my previous visit and once again went above and beyond to make my stay special, unique, comfortable, and truly unforgettable. Nothing is ever too big or small an ask for Sevgi. This level of care and attention to detail is rare in hotels, and it makes all the difference.
One of the highlights each morning was the incredible breakfast spread on the rooftop—with breathtaking views stretching across the cityscape. There’s something magical about starting your day with a fresh, authentic Turkish breakfast spread while taking in the view of not only the Galata Tower but the rooftops, bridges, and beloved Bosphorus in the distance.
My room was a true retreat. With my special balcony and unique view, I found restful moments to write, read, and simply take in the beauty of the city, from the gift of sunrise to the magic of perfectly theatrical sunsets. Tucked away in the heart of Galata, this hotel offers the perfect blend of tranquility and immediate access to the city’s vibrant energy.
The housekeeping team is wonderful and so friendly, ensuring comfort with thoughtful touches and meticulous attention to detail. The rooms are modern, the amenities fantastic, and the service unparalleled. But what makes Meroddi La Porta feel like home isn’t just the warmth of the staff—it’s also the cleanliness, the crisp white linens, and the comfort of a truly well-prepared space. The bed is comfortable, the pillows are just right, and every detail—from fresh towels to an immaculately kept room—meets the standards of even the most particular traveler (and I say this as someone who usually travels with their own towel).
After busy days and vibrant nights exploring Istanbul, it’s a joy to return ‘home’ to Meroddi La Porta—where you can truly unwind in comfort.
If you’re looking for a modern hotel with quality comfort, cleanliness, special touches, and outstanding service in the best location, this is it. I wouldn’t hesitate to book another stay at this truly special hotel.
Çok Çok Teşekkür ederim ve inşallah...
Read moreI have booked this property on August 24, 2024. Because previously we stayed in Istanbul in Meroddi La Porta and were very satisfied. Finally we arrived in hotel on December 30, 2024. after our flight, the guy in reception addressed my husband with name (I thought what an attentive staff) meanwhile he was going to say that our room has a “technical issue” and has to readdress us to another branch Meroddi La PORTA, as our previous stay there we did not have any complaints and went to Meroddi La Porta ( they offered to carry our bags, but we said it is fine we will go there ourselves. And here starts the 3 day nightmare. We entered the hotel, we thought guy in the reception was already waiting us or something like this, but nothing he just gave us the keys. When we entered there was noise coming from the AC, the window was not opening. We immediately called receptionist and he came to the room and said this voice will go away after 23:00, besides it was 23:35. He said that the window will be repaired next day. No voice was gone no window was repaired. We barely slept at that night.. we asked to change the room, they said they are overbooked, they promised to bring the technician but the sound was still there, it was December 31 we wanted to leave, but they refused to refund anything. On the first of January we lost the patience, I called booking said about these complaints but their actions were zero. Also I want to mention that the two receptionist guys in that days were completely unprofessional, there was no manager no director to talk. On the third day receptionist said he will try to change our room, in the evening when we got back we asked about updates, he was surprised you did not change the room? I said to you to prepare your bags to change the room :D of course no such thing has said by him to us. Finally on January 2 we got another room, thanks to someone who...
Read moreVery helpful, cheerful staff. Our huge, clean room was actually an efficiency apartment. The kitchenette had a dishwasher, clothes washer, small fridge, microwave, two burner stove, sink, eating utensils, plates, cups, frying pan, and pot. There was a desk, a table with four chairs, and a sofa in addition to the king size bed, two side tables with lamps, and a wardrobe. There was also a large storage closet with a clothes drying rack inside.
The shower in the bathroom was a decent size instead of the usual telephone only small people like my husband and I can manoever in. There wasn't any counter space to speak of oo or appove the bathroom sink, but there was an open shelf below the sink that was actually part of the sink. The real Turkish towels were so large! Toiletries were provided, but we did have to buy our own clothing and dish detergents. There was also an electric kettle and the usual hotel coffee and tea setup.
Breakfast was free and was in the incredible grand Turkish style on the fifth floor overlooking the rooftops of Istanbul and in sight of the Galata Tower and the old Austrian hospital, which had it's own rather weird architecture. If you wanted eggs, sausage, cereal, and toast, you could have them, but there were at least four different types of bread, including small croissants and simit, three to four different kinds of olives, figs, apricots, walnuts, hazelnuts, flavored yogurt, tiny muffins, banana bread slices, fried potato wedges, a hot cheese pastry in multiple layers like baklava, roasted peppers in a yogurt sauce, slices of cucumber, three or four different cheeses, tomatoes, and other goodies I can't recall right now. In addition to tea and coffee, they provided orange juice and either cranberry or pomegranate juice, I can't remember which, just that it was...
