It is a difficult review to write, because I was happy with my stay in Jumba hostel till the moment I realized someone stole my money out of my siutcase with a combination lock.
First thing I asked before arriveing was to place me in a place with big locker for my luggage. When I arrived I realized that probably there is no such a room in a hostel. Beacuse I had a lock combination in the siutcase and a place seemed safe I decided that I will leave my money hidden inside (not to walk with everything by me on a streets) and lock, also place the siutcase hidden behind a curtain. I remember that after walking in the city when I came back in the evening zippers ware wirdly locked (there are extra zippers to make laguage bigger, and one of those extra one was locked insted of the main zipper). Everything else was normal so I thought it was my mistake locking the luggage badly. It was not. Besides I always payed attention to lock my belongings. I noticed the money missing after 2 days. After thinking about it now I see that the thief managed eather to open the siutcase with lock combination (unfortunatly if he tried it was easy to find - I will change that) or had some other way of opening it. It was made this way that I did not realized at first what happened. Now I see that obviously he was able to open the bag to search throu it, so he could find hidden money. He did this discretly. I strongly believe it was none one of my roommates (they seemed very nice). Probably someone from other room or outside.
There was a drawer with padlock option below the bed that I used for my small backpack during the night. It was to small for the siutcase to fit in. It looked very easy to brake in if someone would have a intention to do so, thats why I did not use it for other purposes. Siutcase looked like a safer solution. I used drawer for hiding my photocamera for the night secured with my padlock. Offcourse you could say, that I could be more clever in hiding my money, but there was simply no other options than leaving money in my siutcase with the combination lock. It seemed like a better option than walking in the street with everything.
There are few cameras in the hostel, but not in the places that could tell anything if a situation like mine occures. Hostel stuff was not able to check anything.
Overall if security issues are not a trouble for you I could recomend this hostel. It is not fancy, but it is clean, has a good price and location. Comunication throu whatsup with hostel stuff was good and you could get necessary transportation inforamation. The thing is there is no sufficient protection for your belongings. I gave my feedback to the owners. Hopefully they will change that in the future. At the moment my egzample shows it is definitly not a safe place for your goods. If you stay there you have to be very very careful for your belongings. I feel that I was, and I ended up beeing robbed.
At he end I am very sure that bad karma will come back...
Read moreI wanted to book this hostel for a least a month so the manager proposed me the rent a room in her apartment instead. First surprise she didn't want to share pictures with me before visiting the room which should have alarmed me. I finally decided to book the room in her apartment so I can welcome friends if needed but because of the very poor conditions of the apartment the other housmates were also complaining about. I decided not to stay after less than two weeks and told the manager I'll stay to Jumba hostel for two weeks after sraying in her apartment. The most crazy part one of the housemate was there always complaining about everything despite him being responsible for the very poor hygiene of the apartment when me and another housemate arrived. Obviously the owner of the apartment, manager of Jumba wasn't happy me cancelling after two weeks but instead of bringing somone to clean the mess (I even proposed to pay a cleaning lady, she wasnt able to find any for me) the place was so dirty she cancelled my reservation at Jumba 3 days before my 2 weeks reservation after the guy complain again! This time because I put the trash next to the main door to trow it away when I go outside after cleaning the apartment, she took the defense of that guy, making the problem so big despite everyone else complaining about that guy in the house and the poor hygiene of her apartment and nobody in the house understanding why they decide to make such a small problem such a big deal. The owner then started to tell me stupid things like you should say sorry to him because the guy wrote in the group chat he felt disrespected (his room was close to the main entry) and he and the owner asked me to tell him I'm sorry in the group chat like a child asking his mom Instead of talking to me directly. Instead of letting me solve the issue with that guy directly she told me you can put the trash in your room if it doesn't bother you in the group chat again, . Never happened to me before. Very unprofessional. You should learn to respect your customers and have better self-awareness. If I was the only one to complain in the apartment about all this I wouldn't have written this comment but I feel this time, this is deserved....
Read more🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Best Hostel Experience in Istanbul – Feels Like Home!
When I first came to Istanbul, I stayed near the tourist areas – those places were expensive and honestly, not very special. Later I discovered Jumbo Hostel, and I truly felt the difference.
I stayed here once and loved it so much that after traveling across Turkey, I came back here without any second thought before my flight. The owner is a very kind and genuine person, and the two ladies working here are incredibly humble and helpful. They even allowed me early check-in and let me relax in the common area for hours after check-out while I waited for my flight.
What really impressed me:
Free 24/7 tea and coffee ☕
Clean, fully equipped kitchen 🍳
Drinking water is free – unlike other hostels where it was expensive
Laundry service costs i thing only 100 TL, while other hostels charged €10 or more
Very warm and welcoming environment
Honestly, out of all the hostels I stayed in during my trip, Jumbo Hostel is the best in Istanbul. Affordable, friendly, and truly feels like home. Highly recommended!
