Hotel million old city||2-3* max||||Customer service- (Ilhan)the gentleman who showed us to our room was polite and helped us when we requested our bedding to be changed. His English was quite good so it helped... unfortunately most of the other staff do not speak English or Turkish so we had a difficult time trying to communicate- especially because we didn’t see Ilhan after the first afternoon. The day before we were leaving they didn’t top up toilet roll in the day so we struggled to find someone in the evening as the upstairs part was closed. ||||The staff were very friendly despite having a language barrier, they did try to help. One of the ladies I think her name is Lana, she ironed our clothes for us when my husband took it up to iron himself.||||We arrived half an hour before check in time and Ilhan kindly showed us to a room... which happened to be a deluxe room (which we didn’t pay for) and said it’s no problem. The deluxe part I believe is the balcony with a view of the Hagia Sophia and partly (if you look over a bit) the Blue mosque. This was nice of him.||||Price- you’re paying for the location. It must have been redecorated some time ago but looks a bit of a shoddy job.||We were supposed to pay £146 but we were charged more than that. This was annoying and had no way of communicating this as the person that spoke English was hardly around.||||Location- ideal as it was walking distance to all the main sites.||||Decor- let’s say the images look really nice but in reality it’s a tiny hotel next to and on top of a busy restaurant.||||Cleanliness/hygiene- I can only go off our room and also the communal areas. Our room in a glance isn’t that bad but once you look into the finer details... can be off putting. I guess it’s better than a hostel but I expected better and we chose this one based on how it looked and location.||There were hairs on the bed, the floor, the cupboard. There was an empty shower gel bottle in the shower which made me think whether they bothered cleaning the shower... the toilet brush was filthy, floors stained with paint and other marks and the chaise had stains on it (when I see stains in hotels- it freaks me out thinking it could be all sorts- I’ve seen documentaries!!!). The rug looked a bit tired. One of the cups had something inside it stuck. The dirty throw that had stains and hairs on it was just put in our cupboard instead of being taken to wash. The sink had stains, not sure what they were. Overall it just didn’t look clean. Part of me feels it looks a bit like someone’s home and if you went to someone’s home you wouldn’t mind so much about some of the things but considering this is a hotel, people are paying for a service and also the amount of people that stay here... I’d expect there to be a bit more of an effort to clean. ||||Smells - vile smell in corridors, first floor where lifts are smelt of urine on one night. It made me gag, I had to cover my mouth and nose to get out! Same thing happened as we left our bedroom on more than one occasion... not sure what that smell was but it isn’t pleasant.||||Noise from outside- after around 9/10pm the music /DJ starts outside ... sounds like a club! Hard to sleep. First time in Istanbul so didn’t know where was best to book and pics and location looked ideal. (Pics look a lot better than they are. Paint work in different areas, marks on the floorboards, hairs on the bed. The first day we had to get the duvet part changed as it had lots of hairs on it and stained. Even then under the sheet there were hairs and I had bites on my hands and arms.. not sure if it’s the room or from when I was outside.||||||Overall I would not stay there again. Very disappointed about the extra charge. They emailed me saying that they were given my booking in euros and their conversion rates had a 5% difference to standard ones. Well I didn’t...
Read moreWe arrived an hour after we'd phoned and said we would be at the hotel at 11-11.30 pm. We had a taxi ride from hell from Ataturk Airport as the driver didn't know the way and kept taking us over the Galata bridge! We phoned Hotel Million to get them to give directions to the driver and they hung up on us because we were not close enough! Finally I got the guy to speak with the taxi driver and we still went back over the Galata Bridge! We phoned Hotel again and again and they wouldn't answer! Finally reaching the destination and still phoning them to get them to let us in, they still didn't answer! Finally a guy in a red leather jacket stuck his head out and we thought all would be good. He kept shaking hands with us and taxi driver who we ended and paid 150tl. He took us upstairs through the restaurant and to a small lift which we three + luggage crammed into. He said something about 'wrong room' and that 'he'd personally' and then 'his friend' would move us to right room in the morning - 11 o'clock?! Free breakfast? Kept shaking our hand and looking into our faces - and then left us! The room was fine but we realised that we'd forgotten to ask the wifi log in and my mother was ill back in Australia and I wanted an update. I phoned the guy again and he answered, I asked for the wifi log in and he hung up!! We wanted to leave there and then, but of course, where would we go. In the morning all was good and they seemed to know about changing rooms and took us to the correct room, it hadn't been made up, to make sure it was ok with us. They said to pack our stuff up, go out on our touristy way and they'd have us moved in when we returned, and gave us the key to our new room. |All was fine from there on until the guy in the red jacket turned up 5 days later, knocking on our door, wanting payment because we were checking out. We said that we checked out in 2 days but would pay for our accommodation when we came down, he also wanted us to settle the tab which was silly as we still had 2 days to stay. We're standing there in our pyjamas and then shook our hand!! |Overall, the Hotel Million Old City is good, really good shower and great location. Some of the Staff were fantastic and keep the place afloat. The Guy in the red jacket though is really letting the...
Read moreHorrible experience here, basically you might end up being scammed here. We phoned them and let them know about our arrival almost a whole day before. When we arrived it was something out of a horror movie. Doors were open and no one was even present. No staff. No reception nothing at all. We emailed them again and called many times but no one answered. We just had to walk to another hotel and decided to stay there. 2 days after we get notified by our bank that our card got charged for almost 75 $ due to a reservation with this hotel, we contacted them the next day and they said 'We are sorry its because you guys didnt come the next day.' They didnt even reply to the emails we had sent earlier or instruct us to come the day after. Then the guy was like I am sorry I am on an off day today when he ran out of pointless answers. If you enjoy an unorganised messy, dirty place where you don't know who is who then this is the right...
