Sultan Palace Hotel - Initial thoughts, Sultan palace hotel is far from a Palace. It’s located on a steep hill, when you enter the hotel you must first go down a set of winding stairs to get to the main receptions desk. If you have any mobility issues or a disability this place is not for you. I wear knee brace and have limited mobility so it was difficult for me. The clerk did come outside and help us with the luggage albeit we arrived at 3 AM.
The clerk has limited, very limited English-speaking capabilities. I made the mistake of calling the hotel earlier in the day to arrange for a hotel/airport transfer, they said the transfer would cost 50 euros to which I agreed. However when my flight was delayed, I called the hotel again to let them know we would be arriving late and told them the new time it was scheduled for. Upon arrival the driver was not there. Apparently the guy showed up, waited for three hours and naturally left. When I get to the hotel I was charged for the transfer even though they didn’t quite understand that the flight was delayed, thus it was my fault. Apparently they had called/texted me via WhatsApp however the number they called was not mine and the number was not even close to mine, so I don't know who they called, so I had to pay the price.
There is a very nice car service located at the airport that will bring you to the hotel or any hotel, do not order directly from the hotel as it’s easier just to get it at the airport and cheaper. They will also pick you up from the hotel and transfer you back to the airport. Make sure to book the roundtrip initially to make it easy.
The room (#101): is a very small room in comparison, we got a triple, which was a double bed and a twin size bed. The air conditioning was functioning although not super powerful but it allowed you to be comfortable while in the room. The room also has a super tiny fridge and a safe if you want to use it. The bathroom I also found it to be very small however the shower was a little bigger than expected albeit it all seemed dated BUT IT WAS CLEAN and no foul odors.
As there is a mosque located right next door you will hear prayer services, which for us was not an issue whatsoever. If you want a nice breakfast, make a right upon leaving the hotel and go up the hill (past the rear of the Mosque) right on the corner there is a nice little 3 story restaurant. The guys there were very nice and the food was delicious at a reasonable price.
Location however, it's close to Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and many other tourist spots. Additionally public transportation is readily available. There are very nice restaurants within walking distance and a little grocery store about a block away for water and snacks.
Overall, I would give them a 4.5 star rating due to the accessibility issues. The staff is very nice and they do try...
Read moreWorst hotel ever, they posted pretty nice pictures to deceive you into thinking you are getting a cheap hotel + breakfast, more on the breakfast, so keep reading. It was a cold winter in istanbul, the room had no heat, I went downstairs to complain, and the front desk guy threw another blanket at me and told me to go back to my room. An extra blanket was not helpful, I was shivering on the bed. Finally, morning came, I made up my mind to leave the hotel with two nights of my stay left, but I didn't care. I told myself before I leave, let me at least go enjoy the breakfast, I walk downstairs to the front desk guy, now it was a different guy, he was sitting there scrolling on his phone, asked him where the breakfast area was, he pointed left without even looking at me or taking his eyes off his smart phone, I was like alright I will figure it out myself, I found the breakfast place, I was the only person there, there was nothing laid out, I am used to hotels serving buffet style breakfast, I thought I missed breakfast, the lone lady sitting behind a desk gestured at me to sit at one of the tables, I sat down as told, she brought me two slices of white bread and two packets of butter, and a cup of tea, she said qoute " breakfast, eat" I was like oh well, fool me once. I drank the tea anyway, but two slices of white bread weren't very appetizing, so I left it untouched. I used their Wifi to book another hotel, and on the way to my other hotel, I got scammed by the...
Read moreSimple hotel, clean and correct offering a perfect location to visit the old part of Istanbul (10mn walking distance for Aya Sofia, grand bazaar, ect) and a nice view from the terrasse on the Sokollu Mehmet Pacha mosquee. ||The hotel is located in a popular but charming and safe neighborhood, with many restaurants choices around. It is excentred from the tourists flows, which is another advantage. ||It is well kept, quiet, clean, the rooms prices were a good deal and the other guests of the hotels were correct as well. ||The staff was kind and helpful. Even if they don't speak English, you easily manage to communicate. ||In addition, it offers transport shuttle for a very good bargain. ||I was positively surprised and overall I extended my stay , staying here more than 5 nights. ||it was perfect for what I was looking for, and I was more glad to enjoy a good deal with a clean, simple room rather than staying in a fashionable and more expensive hotel.
