Booked the Five after looking at other hotels in the area and I must say it's definitely a party hotel. After a 13 hr flight from NY I was hoping the room was ready when we checked in at 11am and it was so thumbs up to the front desk for getting us in a room early so we can get to the pool. After having our bags brought to the room we had them show us around the suite which was appointed very nicely. After checking the room details out we proceeded to get dressed and head to the Social Pool which was nice with alot of loungers and umbrellas for the 100+ heat and sun. Pool water was good and had the wait staff at the pool set us up with good seats at the pool. (Please tip your wait staff as they will lookout for you while you are there) Headed back to the room to shower and get dressed for the night we saw housekeeping and asked housekeeping to bring us some face wash clothes because the rooms only had body towels and hand towels. Needless to say this is where things started to take a change for the bad and it was only day 1 of 7. After waiting awhile for housekeeping to come back which they never did we had to use the hand towels in order to take a shower. After getting dressed and head out we stopped in the lobby and advised the front desk staff that we asked housekeeping to bring us wash clothes and they stated they would take care of it. Again that never happened and every day for 4 days we asked for wash clothes and never got them. Also without getting wash clothes the TV Chromecast wasn't working properly and had to have IT come to the room. Phone wasn't working so everything we wanted room service or anything we had to leave the room and go to the lobby which was aggravating to say the least. After being overly frustrated I spoke to the front desk and they assured me that everything would be working properly and after asking for wash clothes and asking for ice every night she also stated that for the inconvenience they would give me a late check out. Going back to the highlights of the Five was Cinque Italian restaurant, Maiden Shanghai and Jade was all 5 star quality. I highly recommend the braised short rib at Maiden Shanghai and any pasta dish at Cinque. Jade was a speakeasy spot away from the clubs and loud music. The Penthouse always a party and Bling definitely got a NY vibe to it. Security in the hotel is top notch and on point in the clubs, at the pools, spotting teenagers trying to sit in Praia. So back to the issues with housekeeping because this was the only disappointment of our vacation. After the front desk stated we would have late checkout and asking to move us to another room we go look at the room at 2am and we stated we would take the room and we go pack up our things and the front desk calls our room after fixing the phones and states the room that they was giving us had no air which I find a little strange because the room in my opinion should have not been in service. So we have to unpack and stay in the room. On the last night we finally get wash clothes and the next morning room service is knocking on the door and the phones ringing. We get up and get dressed to head to the pool and housekeeping is in front of our door asking if we checking out which I stated NO because we HD late checkout and no communication from the front desk and housekeeping so guess where I have to go back down to the front desk and speak with the Duty Manager Ahmed Hamedou and he stated we had he will honor the late checkout until 5 and when I asked how much would it be of I just keep the room until 11pm because I was checking out at 11:30pm to head to the airport. He responded with $250 for an additional 10 hrs. Which I found to be an insult after all the frustration I had with housekeeping, the front desk, phones and TV. Now we had to go pack our belonging and move to another room until 5pm. After that whole ordeal Ahmed and the housekeeping supervisor came up and rectified the issue and gave us the room til we checked out. Overall I do recommend Five but they have to do better with...
Read moreWhen my partner tried to make a reservation, the booking tool on the website was unavailable, so he booked via email. Upon arrival, our reservation couldn’t be found and was registered under a completely different name. After a long journey, and me feeling unwell, we had to wait over 20 minutes for check-in. The receptionist barely provided any information about the hotel—she simply told us how to get to our room: “You can take that elevator to your floor.”
The room itself was beautiful but felt a bit overcrowded with furniture given the available space. Unfortunately, we had a room facing the street, which was extremely noisy, especially in the evenings, with the sounds of sports cars and people outside constantly audible.
The next morning, we were shocked by how chaotic breakfast was. It felt like a free-for-all, with guests piling food onto their plates, making the atmosphere extremely loud and the buffet looking quite messy. After breakfast, we wanted to go to the pool, but all the spots were already reserved, so we headed to the beach instead. The sunbeds there were very comfortable, and the service was friendly and efficient. However, around 2 PM, extremely loud music started playing—either from the pool area or the beach club—resulting in two different tracks blaring at high volume.
After a day at the beach, we had to walk past the pool area to return to the hotel. This was a truly unpleasant experience: crowds of people, excessive drinking, food, shisha, and deafening music. We felt completely out of place. At that point, we realized this hotel wasn’t for us.
We decided to ask if we could cancel our 10-night stay and move elsewhere. The receptionist showed no empathy and simply stated that we should have known what kind of hotel this was based on their website. Honestly, I feel that in Dubai, all hotels and restaurants market themselves in a similar way, so this wasn’t that obvious. She then asked if we had visited the other pool at the hotel. We hadn’t, but only because no one had mentioned its existence upon check-in. She also reminded us that we had booked a non-refundable stay. We understood this but wanted to express that it wouldn’t be good for anyone if we were unhappy for 10 days. She said she would check what could be done.
The next morning, we skipped the chaotic breakfast and instead had a peaceful meal at Delisserie, which was a lovely, quiet spot. We decided to search for the other pool and ended up at the spa area, which was much calmer. This gave us hope that we could still make the best of our stay.
Later that day, the Front Office Manager called us because, despite us deciding to stay, the hotel still wanted to discuss our experience. This made us feel heard and valued. A well-handled solution was offered, allowing us to enjoy the rest of our time there, for which we are very grateful. We were given more information about the hotel and even visited the beautiful new restaurant, Jade. The manager assured us that if we had any further concerns or questions, we could contact him directly, which gave us peace of mind.
We are now having a pleasant stay and enjoying ourselves—though the walk to and from the beach past the pool area remains a daily struggle, haha!
Housekeeping did an excellent job; the room was always well taken care of, and the staff was very kind. However, the number of towels we received varied daily. The bed was changed with fresh sheets every day, which was a great touch. One minor point: there was no soap available for the bathtub, which could be improved. Also, the minibar was not checked or restocked daily.
Room service was good, and I had a fantastic massage at the spa. I must say, the staff at Delisserie, housekeeping, and the spa were all incredibly friendly!
Tip for the hotel: As a five-star hotel, I would recommend asking guests at check-in whether they would like a short tour—either immediately or at a time that suits them, such as the next morning. This would help prevent situations like ours, where we were unaware of key...
