Maiden Shanghai | FIVE Palm Jumeirah — Restaurant in Dubai

I made a reservation with Maiden Shanghai to attend their naughty noodles brunch this past weekend for my friends 30th birthday celebration. We were truly excited and made the booking quickly in order to get availability. Upon arriving the staff at the hostess desk upstairs were truly great and well accommodating, I arrived alone before the birthday gang to check on everything, I was escorted upstairs where I met the second round of hostesses whom took me to our table. At this point is when I first felt and realized a racial profile and preference had been placed, which we unfortunately continued to experience throughout the day. I was not truly pleased with the table we were placed on due to it being at a corner and one of the chairs was inbetween a hallway pathway that led to the terrace. I tried to ask the hostess whom led me to the table however she ignored me and continued walking. I then approached a waiter whom looked down upon me in a racially judge mental manner and he asked me “when did you make your booking? Because we get really busy so since you made your booking on Thursday?” I felt he meant this in a way like what did you expect after making your reservation so late and then he ignored my request to possibly get the table behind us that was free and only needed cutlery by the way and was less in the way of the hallway to the terrace. Only person whom was really helpful was the South African waitress, sorry I forgot her name but it starts with a P, maybe Prushka? She really tried to turn my experience around and was the only kind staff of the entire place I met. If I get started on the service? Due to being in a corner I’m not sure if we were being forgotten but we had to ask for our starters severally…whenever we needed drinks refilled, most of the time we ended up walking to the bar for our own refills, the birthday girl included…considering we were on premium package I didn’t expect this….then our waiter proceeded to ignore the fact that our table had not gotten dimsums as part of the premium package menu, when we asked he brought us one basket of dimsum with four pieces inside…we proceeded to ask him with all these options displayed on the menu we get four pieces? He firstly said yes then later on after I approached a different waiter suddenly several baskets of dimsum appeared. The service was unfortunately pathetic, we felt racially profiled despite being paying guests whom also paid the advance booking price requirement of AED 800…after paying this price before visiting the place you don’t expect such services. However I must highlight that the food was great once received, compliments to the chefs and the entertainment was also really great, we had fun with these two merged. Thank you so much to the one waitress whom wasn’t even in our section Prushka who tried to enlighten our experience.
