I was discriminated against, denied entry at this pub today, and refused to let me speak to a manger!
I submitted a complaint about this incident, but I’m also flagging this up here to make sure it doesn't happen to someone else!
I’m wetting to raise a complaint about being denied entry at the door by the door person today May 26th, around 21:00 on the basis of l being on my own, I asked to speak to a manger about it, the security guard refused to call a manager despite the fact that I asked for it! In their word, “I don’t want to”
I must say As a person of colour, I was triggered by the discrimination I faced by your staff! I stayed there tried to get the attention of any staff, until a customer at the pub came to invite me to join them, the security gard still denied me entry and made me leave the property which I did. I then spoke to staff member (Alice) whom asked why I was denied entry! Alice told me that, they have to back up their colleague decision, and explained that its the policy that states an individual might not be allowed for the safety of protected characters! The guard has allowed a white man on his own to the pub, while I was there, which made the reason for me to be denied entry being on my own even more confusing! Alice also apologised about how that made me feel and directed me to this email to the manger upon my request to raise a compliant.
I believe that as a person of colure, the experience I had at your establishment is discriminatory, lacks sensitivity and understanding of racial bias, the fact that the guard used this role to discriminate a person of colour, defuses the purpose of introducing safeguarding of “protected characters”!!
After this unpleasant encounter, I left Brighton immediately feeling violated and angry about how I have been treated...
Read moreDamn man. It has such potential! I had been following the launch of Dirty Dog on insta and was excited to go. The food itself was good - hot dogs were tasty but man the service sucked. If it was just one thing we maybe could have excused it but we had to witness two employees behind the bar chat and eat crisps whilst complaining about taking our order. Then food was served kinda cold without napkins and all different times. I had to go down and ask for a napkin and then was just pointed to a pile of them on a random table with only a few left. If your literally name is dirty dogs maybe preempt that people will want some kitchen roll on tables. I guess our final straw was already mentioned in reviews here. There were three of us at the table only one of us took them up on a free pint offer and what followed kinda soured our whole night. We weren't told it was only for Red Stripe so he orders what he actually wants give the token and walks off. Then the guy behind the bar starts shouting that he hasn't paid. We explain the misunderstanding and then even offer to pay for the wrongly poured pint and it leads to the guy who poured the pint being very rude and smashing the more expensive beer glass. Giving him the benefit of the doubt it was an accident but no apology from anyone caused a bit of an unnecessary drama that was obviously seen by other people in the bar. Shoutout to CutiePies and Fries at The Star and Garter around the corner if you are looking for a good example of a food pop up in a pub...
Read moreWe'd pre-booked and confirmed several times that we would be able to get in. Arrived to be turned away by an unpleasant doorman who insisted that we weren't welcome. We had a much nicer time in the star and garter round the corner.
Edit: Here was our interaction for clarity: Our party: Hi we're booked for 12 of us sorry we're a little late Bouncer: Why are you here? Our party: We booked to come here for a night out. Bouncer: I said why are you here? Our party: Our friend is getting married in a few weeks. Bouncer: No stag parties.
We were not evasive we were open and honest. Frankly the attitude of the bouncer was very rude and unpleasant. He was clearly looking for a reason to turn us away. He then tried to direct us to a bar that was entirely inappropriate and was extremely rude to several of our party.
The manager came out and had to back her staff member and in so doing made it clear we and our custom weren't welcome. Unsurprisingly, the member of our party who had booked became very upset. He was then gaslit into believing that this was the reason for refusing entry. Obviously clairvoyance is an attribute required by bouncers.
As I said, we had a lovely time in the star and garter. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The toilets were very clean and tidy. If you're after a happy and trouble-free night, you're best...
