Sorry to say I had a terrible experience at this place. If you don't fancy fish and chips, there are various veggie alternatives - veggie burgers, falafal burgers, etc.
There were large queues for the fish and chips, so my friends waited in the queue for fish and chips and I went to the other counter for a falafal burger - they'd run out, so I ordered a veggie burger and chips and coke, £11.50.
And I waited. And waited. And waited. My friends collected their fish and chips and started eating before their food got cold. I waited some more. After a full 20 minutes a small tray of chips arrived. I was hopeful, and even though they were hot, and freshly cooked, they weren't the actual fresh cut chips of the chip shop counter a few meters away. These appeared to me be be simple frozen chips. And of course no veggie burger. I ate the chips alone whilst I waited for my burger. After a further 10 minutes (so 30 minute wait by this time) the burger arrived. I went outside to sit with friends, who had all finished their food and were hopeful to get going. I ate with them watching me.
The burger itself was absolutely revolting - perhaps the nastiest burger I've ever had actually. From my point of view, this seemed to be an ultra cheap, frozen Farm Foods type burger. The texture was literally mushy, like a paste, and dripping with oil when squeezed. It turned my stomach. The brioche bun was claggy, rather than light and fluffy. Sadly, I had to discard the burger in the tray and ate the bun with the lettuce and tomato.
On the plus side, my friends said they enjoyed their fish and chips.
If I went again, I would have chips from the chip shop side of the unit, but there are so many places in Brighton, I doubt I will...

Right after I set my foot in Brighton, I knew I had to try fish and chips in this coastal city. I had no idea where to go, who to meet and what should I expect from this beautiful city.
I just walked to the pier and admired the view, then a man wearing glasses and a blue T-shirt, carrying a fish and chips sign caught my attention. Looked like he was bringing it out to display on the road. He was the one introduced me to the lovely fish and chips shop.
The shop looked really clean and the staff were extremely energetic and friendly. Those are the two elements that I usually judge on when I come to any restaurant for the first time.
Here comes the food. The classic fish and chips with curry sauce. The price is fair for the portion and the location. The batter is amazing, fish tastes so fresh and flaky, you can tell they know how to do business. The chips were awesome, freshly cut and the curry sauce was cherry on the cake.
Definitely gonna come back on a sunny day in this...
Read moreI stopped in for some real fish and chips - having lived outside the UK for 30 years it was badly missing -- these guys do it proud. I am a small person and they let me order the kids size which was a perfect portion for me. The fish was hot and battered well - not over-fried - just perfect. The chips were thick cut, crisp and hot with that lovely fluffy potato center. They had lots of malt vinegar available, and while they make it fresh it was a very reasonable waiting time. I saw their tiramisu (with alcohol in it) gelato when I was leaving and really wanted it but was no way I could fit it LOL - when I came back 4 hours later they had just shut down the gelato side since it is a cool, rainy day, but they were so awesome and got me a scoop anyway. Great food, amazing people running it and really made my day :)...
