This was one of my favourite pubs in brighton...
I have been a punter at this pub for over 10 years. The energy has always had a good, warm friendly party atmosphere. Not last Saturday...
I walked up to the bar & very happy with a smile simply said "Hi Shane - how are you?"
I'd like to quote the following greeting by Shane working behind the bar...
"I don't know what's going on with you but I'm not in the mood. I don't know you & I want you to calm down" To which my response was "oh I'm very sorry Shane usually you're the life of the party and quite happy to see me. I'm sorry my energy is so high. I actually have ADHD."
The manager of the bar quickly realised that I'm not in any way intoxicated as I am drinking a non-alcoholic drink and I am not on any drugs. I came to talk to the manager about how antagonistic his bar staff is & they just said the following ...
"I have to make sure my staff feel protected"
Okay but from what a punter with a smile & in a good mood?
There was no apology, just a complete distain for both me and my friend after that.
Your treatment of me was just shameful. I'm so unhappy it really was one of my favourite pubs in Brighton.. but no longer I'll never grace your pub with my presence again. Good luck treating happy customers like that!

Read moreWe live in a time where "community" is so often a buzzword thrown about rather than a concept fully realised. I'm happy to say that genuine community is alive and well at The Actors. On a quieter evening, I first experienced this pub as a charmingly romantic little date spot steeped in queer history - over time frequenting The Actors, I have come to understand it as perhaps the most warming and welcoming place in all of Brighton.
This is thanks in huge part to the incredible staff and team at The Actors, who give it their absolute all every day to ensure that this venue's unique position as an asset to the community is preserved and kept lovely, joyous, inviting, and safe for all to enjoy. I simply can't recommend coming here enough when what you need is an escape...
Read moreI've been to the Marly with friends to see some of their shows several times; it's always been busy, but friendly. The staff never seem to stop moving and, even when the place is packed out, they are always polite.
The venue upstairs is old, but adequate; it can get quite claustrophobic in there during the summer, as the aircon isn't the best. The loos are non-gendered, old but kept clean and well stocked with toilet paper. And the food looks good although I haven't tried it myself.
It's not as central as some bars as it's on the left as you approach the seafront/Pavillion, which means it misses out on some of the less appealing parts of the nightlife, but that's a bonus in my opinion.
I'd happily go back any time I'm...
