Bad experience.
We went last night, 3 of us nearly 60, with my son as part of celebrating his 25th birthday, and with 2 of his 25 yo friends. We bought drinks for most of us, but one of the friends had nipped to the loo so we still had her drink to buy.
I was surprised just how determinedly, and in a not friendly way, their IDs were checked. I'd sort of assumed a little bit of a friendly comment when I said it was my son's 25th - but his driving licence was checked carefully with no suggestion of a 'happy birthday' or anything.
With this unfriendly approach, I was beginning to regret our choice of pub, but they went and found a table and I went to buy the last person's drink. Like the other two, she is 25 but had left her ID behind.. she doesn't get asked often now she said.
Not only was she not allowed a drink she wasn't even allowed in the pub FFS. So we all had to stand out on the street to finish our drinks - it was a chilly night and it's not a nice street.
What a shitty attitude.
And don't give me a 'the law is the law' response. The law says people under 18 while Challenge 25 is discretionary, and you can use your brains when it's obviously a group of people who are 7 years older than what the law says and, very obviously, not in the least bit out to get pissed, being with their parents.
For the brief moment we sat down, the music was good. I'd heard it was good, so I was a little surprised by how quiet the pub was .. good Irish music, not much atmosphere ... I wonder why.
I'll be recommending that people try one of an awful lot of other pubs that are a whole lot...
Read moreI was over in Brighton on holiday from Ireland staying with my brother. We tried to get in here on Sunday evening 16th March but after waiting in the queue for sometime, when we finally got to the door, the doorman would not allow my brother and I in together— we were told it was a one out one in only. Looking inside it did not appear to be overly busy! We went back on the Monday 17th (st Patrick’s day) at 5pm to be faced with another large queue. We spoke to an elderly lady outside who said she had to queue for an hour and when she got in it wasn’t even busy! She was also refused entry with her friend! I don’t understand why the doorman here is so intent in making potential customers experience so miserable. He was rude and unhelpful. I could understand it if the place was heaving ( health and safety and all that) but it wasn’t. He must cost the owners a potential fortune in revenue! We went around the corner to Mollys which was heaving with well mannered happy people all out for a good time. Ps I am 62 years of age and wasn’t out to have a wild or troublesome time, just to enjoy a bit of music and atmosphere! Shame really! Perhaps you could explain the...
Read moreIt's not the type of pub I would normally use but on this occasion I was there as my son was having drinks for his birthday I found it to be quite busy mind you it was a Saturday night. The service and bar staff where very welcoming unlike the security doorman who looked like he did not want to be there. Good choice of alcoholic beverages especially Guinness which seemed to be the most popular sold as I've never seen so many Guinness Draught pumps on one bar but that's fine as I drink Guinness. There was a disc jockey playing in the back bar but you could not escape the music he was playing as it was being piped through external speakers all around the pub, music was in my opinion not bad as it was mostly 70s and 80s funky soul which I quite enjoyed to be honest. Would I go back yes as long as the music was the same and I wanted a change as I am really not a fan of pubs based in the West Street area...
