I have been a long time customer of your Brighton restaurant and regularly recommend it to family and friends, but due to the recent incidents that have occurred, and specifically the one that happened yesterday, I will no longer be doing so. My friend and I dined in your Brighton restaurant yesterday and we were treated terribly and left in tears by the management team, Dani and Rebecca. The incident appears to be racially motivated as we are very clearly of a non-white Background and they did not treat others like this. As soon as we walked in, Rebecca gave us odd looks and Dani questioned us, even though we had a reservation booked and we were on time. Rebecca, rather than seating us, went to the back and left us waiting, clearly speaking to other employees and then came back, continued to look at us oddly (my friend who is of an ehtnic background - it was her first time). Dani then proceeded to ask my friend whether she made a reservation, even though she had already twice said so and her name was down on the paper he was looking at. We were then seated and a series of terrible events unfolded. First, the food, specifically the salmon, chicken and tuna were not fresh and looked bad from the colouring and the chicken had clearly been reheated, which we raised with a waiter and asked to be addressed and was ignored. Then, we ordered salmon sashimi. As part of the all you can eat deal, it clearly states 3 portions per person, so since we are 2 people, that would give us a combined 6 portions. We initially placed 4 portions, but this was never brought out. We then placed 2 portions, which was brought out. Before the 2 were brought out, I raised the fact we were never given the initial 4 to Rebecca, Dani and the waiter, who spoke to us very rudly and said we were lying. My friend and I were in utter dibelief. I asked them to look at the cameras which would prove we were never given the 4 initial orders. I even asked the waiter who then acknowledged he didn't remember bringing the 4. Dani then spoke to him in another language and he suddenly changed his story and Rebecca was giving us very awful looks. We repeatedly expained we were never given the 4 and then Dani proceeded to stomp around, and then finally brought the 4. What happened next was just terribel. He put the 4 orders we were owed on the table and proceeded to take a picture of us with the 4 sashimi orders, without our consent. I questioned him about this and he began raising his voice at us. My friend and I were left in tears, asked to file a complaint an we then paid the bill and decided to leave becuase of how aefully we were treated. As I was leaving, I told Rebecca I would be raising a complaint and she said "go ahead, nothing will happen" and she taunted us with her words. She then said "you are banned for life from all Sushimania" when I insisted I would be filing a complaint against her. I am so utterly shocked and still in disbelief. This is no way to treat anyone. They made one mistake after another and then turned around and blamed us. I have never in ny life, in 25 years of eating out, have ever had such an experience. In a previous incident a week ago, we booked a table (another friend and I for all you can eat) and likewise received odd looks from Rebecca and Dani when we arrived and they then told us sorry you can't have all you can eat, even though it was within the time, everyone else was doing it and they began to force us to use the a la carte menu and Dani raised his voice at us and Rebecca then told us we could only do that or have to leave. They have repeatedly mistreated us and I am...
Read moreSushimania is my all time favourite restaurant and I've visited the other locations many times. I was very excited to try the Brighton location as my boyfriend is at uni here and it would be a great place for us to have a meal at when I'm down visiting.
Unfortunately this restaurant is nowhere as good as the other locations which was a shame. The food was okay but not the best. My favourite sushi to get is usually the egg omelette nigiri but it disappointed me when we received it. For some reason the omelette was triangle shaped and very thick compared to the usual rectangles they are at the other locations, which isn't too bad but I'm autistic and the change threw me off. Two of the omelette pieces also had some sort of green paste(?) on them which I assume is avocado from another sushi, but I had to give those pieces to my boyfriend because it was a bit scary and I was scared it was mold(he said it was fine).
All of the nigiri we ordered had a weirdly small amount of rice compared to what you usually have with nigiri from any sushi place. It threw off the ratio of fish to rice and it wasn't great. Most of the other food we had was good just could do with a little bit more sauce/flavour.
The piece of katsu chicken I had felt a little chewy and was maybe a little undercooked? However my boyfriend ate the rest and didn't seem to notice so it may have just been me being paranoid after the nigiri.
The staff were really lovely and friendly which was nice and we were given water as soon as we were sat down. They also let us take a lollipop each as we left! The restaurant itself was quite empty with about maybe four other tables with people sitting at them. The service was pretty fast which was great.
The women's toilets weren't great. At first it looks like a nice bathroom but then when you're actually in there it seems quite run down almost. The doors to the cubicles are really close to the toilet seat and its a little difficult to get in and out easily. There were toilet rolls everywhere but on the toilet roll holder which was fine but a little weird.
Overall it was okay but I can't say I will return to...
Read moreI will give lesser than one star if I can. We had late lunch in Sushimania, Brighton yesterday on New Year’s Day. I love sushi and this was recommended by my nieces. First, we were a party of eight and the waiter who seem to be a manager / supervisor (because he was on a different uniform ) gave us a very small table where we had to sit so tightly together. Also, I have my son’s buggy and that same waiter insisted rudely for me to fold it but there were too many stuff underneath that it’s not possible for me to fold it. As we have ordered what we like, the guy started collecting the menu back but I requested for him to leave one so I can order more. But to my utter surprise he refused to leave a menu and said that food will be placed on the table already and their “precious menu” will be ruined by the food! I couldn’t believe how disrespectful he was. I have never experienced this in any restaurant before. I repeated my request and said that just leave one because I haven’t decided on my main course yet but he said just asked me again later! I finally said take your menu and I don’t want to order anymore. The food was average Japanese food, nothing really spectacular about it but I won’t complain because of the reasonable price. It was really the disgustingly poor behaviour of that waiter that put us all off. My niece said that she went there once before and requested the same waiter if he can take their photo but he refused despite the place not being busy at that time. When I finally had to pay for the bill to the same man, I noticed that he’s added a discretionary 10% service charge. I will normally be more than happy to pay for service charge but not when we’ve received such ridiculous service. I had to ask him to take him it off the bill because I was not happy with...
