This is a fairly smart place. We were placed on couched seating in a corner which I personally dislike as you have to slide in and out of your seat and it feels claustrophobic. We were given complimentary bread and olives at first. Clearly one can only speak to the quality of what was ordered not the whole menu but this place is typical of other Turkish and Mediterranean restaurants (grilled meat, set platters, limited vegetarian and vegan choices). We ordered jackfruit kofte, falafel, lentil soup, chicken shish, vegetable moussaka and mint lemonade drinks (plenty of alcoholic drinks available). I only enjoyed the jackfruit kofte. Dessert was better with a good selection on offer, again typical (baklava etc.). We had firin sutlac and ice cream. I recommend the former which was lovely especially with an English tea. The service was adequate but after being given the bill the waiter vanished without having presented the card reader so I had to fetch the maître d. The restaurant is not as lush as I would expect for a Turkish place having been to Istanbul before and I disliked the distinct lack of classical Ottoman music being played. This prevented the proper ambience from being present in the restaurant and instead the incessant conversations of the other diners was all I could mainly hear (plus at one point a baby was screaming) other than when talking (discreetly) myself. Whilst I didn't use the bathroom facilities myself I was told it is very small and claustrophobic. A 12.5% service charge is automatically added to every bill requiring you to ask for it to be removed which is somewhat embarrassing for customers. This is not an honourable way to...
Read moreWow, absolutely the worst restaurant I've been to during my two week trip to the UK. (My husband is from here) The service was horrendous. The food was terrible. We had the hummus (which tasted like straight tahini) and the calamari (which is very unremarkable). I had a chicken dish that was said to be a special trukish dish with red chili. It was so bland and bad. I couldn't even eat it. Even the chili sauce they brought for the table had zero flavor. The salad was just a spring mix with sliced carrots and the rice was plain, unseasoned rice. Like boiled rice. We came after seeing Wicked at the theater for our anniversary and we were starving, so you would think the food would have been good just because we were hungry, but it wasn't. My husband got a grilled dish with various types of meat and agreed that rhe food is so low quality. Worse than the food- was waiting THIRTY minutes between the mezza and the main course and then again thirty minutes after finishing dinner until we got the bill. We were there for two hours. Other people came and ate and went. It was like we were purposely being ignored. They also sat us right by the door, even though only one other person was in the restaurant when we arrived. When I walked to the bathroom I could see other parts of the restaurant had a nicer atmosphere. I feel so deceived by the other reviews here that I wanted to share my experience so others know they should try literally anywhere else. There is a nandos a few doors down that is far, far better...
Read moreVery nicely decorated restaurant. We came a bit early so was not exactly crouded, but nice service made us feel comfy and relaxed. We started with a shot of grappa, eschewing recommended anise flavoured Yeni raki - from earlier experiance delughtfull but too sweet for out taste. For starters we had crispy calamari, and crispy hellimi (Turkish name for more familiar haloumi) cheese & smoked aubergine. Both fried to delightfull crispness, but aubergine accompaniment lacked the expected smokiness. Was rather bland. For main my partner went for mixed grill and said that it was relly good, very well prepared and very tasty - lamb being the crowning glory, for her taste. My Levrek- two seabass fillets on mush potatoes and wilted spinach - was pretty good. Fillets were crispy but not overdone, although a ted oily. Overall nice but not bursting with flavours. A bottle of Anatolian red went well with the meal. We liked it and would order it again - not a wine expert, so will leave it at that. We had just enough space left for sharing a dessert of baclava with rose flavoured ice cream. Baklava - supa yummy, ice cream - lovely but we did not get much rose flavour out of it. All in all, very positive experience. We've sampled very few items from their richly populared meny and if I was a meat eater we would've most probably left with much more fullfilling memory of the evening. We will definitely visit again to...
