Cyprus Mangal — Restaurant in London

I literally just had a terrible experience dinning alone at this restaurant because of my server who was extremely inappropriate.

I have been looking forward to going here to enjoy my last night in London but 20 mins into the restaurant left a really bad taste in my mouth.

My server was extremely inappropriate and he did not make me feel comfortable at all. He asked me really personal questions about how much I make and how much my salary is?

I told him repeatedly that it’s a personal question and I don’t want to mention my salary. However, he kept pushing and even mentioned “okay at least tell me the range of your salary because I don’t think it’s a personal question” and I kept saying I’m not comfortable answering that question. He kept saying “well then you must earn a lot then or maybe not that much- it’s okay come on tell me”……

He still wouldn’t give up and ended up telling me his salary to get me to tell mine. And to top it off called me “honey” the whole time which is extremely unprofessional. Additionally, when I mentioned to Ahmed (the other server) that my server also called me honey — he laughed and said yeah I guess he was being too friendly.

My whole experience from start to finish was horrible. I did share my experience with Ahmed (the other server) and I wanted to speak to the manager. I mentioned a few times that I wanted to talk to the manager but he was too busy to address my valid concerns.

They did not take my concerns seriously. I feel they were being discriminatory towards me, and not to mention how uncomfortable this whole experience was for me as a south Asian woman trying to experience solo dinning and was being mocked/laughed/picked on the whole time by my server and not taken seriously by his other colleagues despite complaining to the other server who found it funny that my original server called me “honey”.

Therefore, I ended up taking the food to go because I couldn’t sit there for a second....

OUR ORDER:

STARTERS: Kalamar Sigara Boregi Humus Kavurma

MAINS: Mixed Doner Kuzu Moussaka

All food was absolutely delicious! Absolutely loved every dish! The lamb on the humus was yummy! So tender and flavourful!

My dish was the Moussaka! Yummy yummy yummy!

Would recommend every dish we ordered!

This restaurant is lovely. The atmosphere is lovely, and calm and the service is truly refreshing, professional, friendly and fantastic! The place has a lovely ambience to it, and is beautifully decorated.

This was my second visit, and no doubt, not the last. Highly recommend you visit. You'll love it!

Not sure how many lady waiters they have, but the lady who served us was awesome. Such a smiley, friendly and jolly person, but professional at the same time, unlike some waitresses in restaurants who are overly polite and almost throwing themselves around. This lady's service was effortlessly amazing and made our evening more pleasant ❤

My only little feedback is, waiters clearing the table too quickly. I don't like when you've barely finished your food and they come to clear your table. Personally makes me feel uncomfortable. I personally would recommend they watch out for diners finishing eating fully, before taking away plates.

That said, definitely is one on my 'go back' list!

They also don't have a service charge, and food is generous portions. Out of all places, would have been happy to pay a service charge here. In the card era, didn't have cash to tip.

The place is beautiful. Nice aesthetics. They are a bit pricy, but their portions are also good. While there, it seemed like more and more people were coming in, so it seems like the place is always full

My experience however was quite underwhelming. Felt rushed when going through the menu, like they needed me to place an order quickly. Didn't like it at all. Waiters weren't helping with explaining some of the things on the menu.

The food we ordered came cold. Like quite cold, I couldn't even eat it. They had to go warm it for me. My hubby tried to eat his as his was a dry meal, he could carry on.

The food was beautiful to look at, well served but had no flavor. Kept adding salt to both our meals as it tasted bland. My lamb felt like it was just boiled, and plustered on my plate, no spice, no salt, just boiled lamb. The carrots were overcooked. It just was a complete mess. Couldn't finish the meal.

Waiters were busy and so it's really hard for them to come check in.

I think if you're to order a meal here, go with a dry meal, the grills, or skewers or fried ones. Coz you can atleast enjoy that, and even if served cold, its...
