Unsafe and Uncomfortable
We recently stayed at Notting Hill House in London and had an extremely disappointing experience and ended up leaving after 1 night of our reserved 4 night stay. The hotel had many issues, but the final straw and what caused us to leave early was that it was extremely unsafe for our young child.
The window in the room was 1-2 feet above the ground and had no lock. Our 2 year old son was able to easily slide it open and could have climbed out. We were on the 5th floor. There was no screen to keep him in. There were no bars. There were absolutely no safety features to prevent a person from falling out.
The room was about 90 degrees with no air conditioning, no airflow, and only one small fan, so understandably we had hoped we could keep the window open, but we absolutely couldn't.
When we raised our concerns with the management, they dismissed our worries by stating that no hotels have safety measures for children on their windows. We stayed in 2 other hotels during our stay in London, and both had secured windows.
The combination of extreme heat and lack of proper ventilation made it impossible to stay in the room comfortably. We had to leave after the first night despite being booked for four nights. We had to ensure our child's safety and our comfort.
We explained our situation to the management and requested a refund for the remaining nights. They told us they would discuss it with management, but after following up twice, they ignored us and kept our money.
Other things to note: There is no elevator and all rooms are at least 3 floors up. Important to be aware of if you have accessibility needs or concerns. Also, there is no one at the front desk most of the time.
I strongly advise against staying at this hotel, especially if you have children. The lack of concern for guest safety and comfort is...

Doesnât look anything like the red brick building in the first photo in case anyone wants it to.
Terrible. Awful room - cheap nasty bed.
Window was wide open when I checked in. Went to close the window to head out only to discover it was broken and couldnât be closed.
Room would have been easily accessible with a short ladder from the outside.
Spoke with manager (remotely as nobody on site) - they said it would take several hours to send someone (Sunday) or they could send someone Monday lunchtime - not ideal when I had meetings scheduled in the morning. There was no way I was leaving my stuff unattended. Far too easy to break into an open room!
Timeframes just didnât work for me and needed to be confident my belongings were safe.
Swanky name for a terrible âhotelâ. Kitchenette was damaged as well.
Bathroom was small but clean and fine.
Full refund was offered at my request. I took this and ran. Wouldnât...
Read moreWe loved our stay at Notting Hill House! Our room was clean, beautiful, and spacious. The bathroom was huge and the water pressure was great! We were provided with everything we needed and the employees were all very helpful and friendly. We appreciated the service carrying our bags up and down the stairs, and we were also able to store our bags before our room was ready, and after we checked out. Our room was ready much earlier than expected, which was great. The location is unbeatable, just steps from the Notting Hill Gate tube station, and the Portobello Road market. Everything you need is in the area. I would definitely stay at Notting Hill House...
