This hotel doesn't have an air conditioner. You can't open the windows because they've got them so that you can only open them three inches they put child locks on them. I would say that the room was not cool enough to be totally comfortable but somewhat acceptable and perhaps December January and February. This place is not inhabitable June July and August. Also the room was weird I had six steps going up to the toilet so I have to be cognizant in the middle of the night when I'm going to the bathroom not to fall down and break my bottom. My room said it came with breakfast but it was only a continental breakfast and it looked nasty but since it said breakfast the person who was serving breakfast was a nice enough to give me a full breakfast which was basically one egg bacon toast and beans which was acceptable. Continental breakfast is not acceptable and unless you book on the hotels website then that's what you're still basically a high carb high calorie low nutritional value meal. Would I stay here again? No unless it was December and January because there's no air conditioner which is unheard of. They have two fans in the room but what they basically do is essentially blow hot air around your room. I like the location of the hotel and I thought that the staff is professional. Also they don't clean your room every every day. They only clean the rooms every 4 days I find that completely unacceptable especially in 170 US dollar price point. Unacceptable. I only stayed one day so it didn't affect me but that I say three days I would have been very annoyed about their cheap policy if not cleaning the room on a daily basis who does that? I like the Polish lady that worked at the reception. Also this hotel has stairs in some funky locations. To get to my toilet I have to climb up six stairs to get to my room I had to climb up two different flights of five or six stairs also. They should clean the room daily for their price point it's ridiculous and guess what spend some money and put an air conditioner in...
Read moreWe stayed at The Darlington for 3 nights in July 2025, and found it to be a pleasant experience overall. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with a decent sized washroom and shower stall. The beds are narrow as is normal in UK/European hotels, with the beds in our room being about 36 inches wide. They are firm but comfortable. The room had a bar fridge in the closet that could be used for bottled drinks or small amounts of food.||The breakfast was good, with both a Continental and English breakfast available. While the Continental breakfast is free, note that the English Breakfast is only included if you book directly with the hotel, otherwise you have to pay extra. I found that booking directly a couple of months in advance saved me almost 1/2 off the normal rate, which was hundreds of pounds less than other booking sites, so this is definitely worth checking out.||Note that the hotel does not have Air Conditioning, so depending on the weather you may find it uncomfortable. We arrived at the end of a heatwave, and found the room to be very warm when we arrived although it cooled down overnight. There was a fan in the room but it was too small to properly move the air around, although it was better than nothing. When we were there the daytime temps were around 25C with overnights around 17C so the room was ok but warm. If the temps were much higher it would have been uncomfortable for sure.||The lack of any plugs near the beds was a minor annoyance, although there was one near the desk and by the TV. The free Internet worked for basic stuff but is very slow and not suitable for any sort of heavy use. This could be due to our room location relative to the Wi-Fi access point, or it might just be slow overall.||Overall a positive experience due to the weather being pleasant. If it was a few days earlier it would have been...
Read moreI was extremely disappointed in this hotel. After booking and arriving early, the encounter started with us dropping our bags at the hotel and heading out until later in the day when we could check in. The clerk noted we could leave our bags and could likely check in within a few hours but since it would be early, they would charge a fee. We just decided to leave our bags and go explore London. When we returned our bags were just sitting behind the counter, not secured. We checked in and went to our room. We were surprised to learn it did not have AC. But what made it worse was that the two windows (one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom) would barely open (maybe 2 inches) and there was not a fan available. Combine that with the sun coming in and the inability to close the curtains without blocking the minimal airflow, and it was a mess. I have issues tolerating heat due to cancer treatments and this lack on information would have changed where I booked. I immediately went downstairs to inquire about options. We were told we would have to lose one night's expense but could cancel the rest of the booking. We chose to depart the hotel, booked a bigger room, with AC on the day of and scored a better rate (including breakfast) at a Hilton. I would definitely NOT recommend this hotel. You have lots of better,...
