I stay in hotels all over this part of London on a weekly basis so I can speak with some degree of comparison.||This hotel (if you can call it that) ranks amongst the two worst hotels I have experienced in London. First of all lets be transparent about the cost - it was £100. I normally pay between £70 and £90 in Bayswater for a decent double room with en suite. So straight away this is £10 more than the average top end I pay.||Booking via one of the online portals (not TA) was easy and promised a comfortable stay which I assumed would be commensurate with the norm for the area. I was misinformed.||Checkin was perfunctory and from behind a perspex shield by the gentleman whose english was somewhat limited. A key was provided and I then had to negotiate four flights of very grotty stairs to reach my room after being buzzed in to the adjacent building via video intercom. Alarm bells were already going off at this point in my head. Once inside the accommodation I was presented with an ascent of no less than four flights of steep and narrow stairs which were decorated in a style I can only describe as atrocious. Layer upon layer of paint had evidently been copiously applied over the decades with little in the way of preparation or maintenance, and the myriad of scuffs, chips and marks gave additional cause for concern. After arriving somewhat light headed at my 3rd or 4th floor room (I forget which due to the lack of oxygen) I was presented with a small room with an even tinier en suite (just room for a loo, shower cubicle and basin but no room for the guest to benefit from them it seemed, unless one happened to be about 4'6" and 5 stone wringing wet which, as a mature British male, I happen to be neither) .||The door featured a Yale lock which was curiously missing some of the components which would have allowed me to prevent the lock from being jimmied (which would have been disconcerting were it not for the fact that as a mature British male, I am able to give a good account of myself should the need arise). But it still made for a disquieting night's rest - more of which in a moment...||The description of the rooms according to the "hotel" was that they were "elegant". I would describe the decor differently along the lines of "filthy, faded tat". The room was dirty plain and simple with marks on the walls, single glazing which allowed a draught, no heating and bed linen which whilst appearing clean, was lacking in size, quantity and volume such that I was cold and slept in my shirt, socks and grundies. The bedspread didnt provide much in the way of warmth being little more than a thin counterpane. The interior of the single free standing cupboard masquerading as a wardrobe featured an interesting smear of what looked like a combination of blood and snot. By this point i had reached a degree of hysterical laughter so I decided to pile my togs on my rucksack rather than risk it in in the errant cupboard. ||My nights respite was fitful and predominated by a combination of cold and frustrated thrashings trying to wrap an inadequate layer of linen around me. At least when i finally gave up trying to sleep at around 0530 i was able to shift a load of emails on my phone. ||The bathroom was described as "modern". Presumably this was in the same ironic sense as the decor and meant "after the birth of Christ" in which case it was accurate. I thought better of it given the musty smell I encountered and felt that a potential dose of Legionnaires might sully my already wavering thoughts. I elected to ablute at the office where the facilities are infinitely better. ||The proof of the pudding is, as they say,in the eating. If a comfortable, clean room is what you seek to overnight between workdays, then it might be useful to consider ones options. ||This is not going to be my choice again.||I hope you find this review suitably candid ( and perhaps a little...
Read moreABC Hyde Park Hotel. ||So we arrived 2:30pm Thursday 26/6/25 we headed to reception which was a well ventilated room with self serve coffee or tea which you could make if you were there for a long wait but we were not, we were greeted immediately and allocated our room.||Our room was in the building next door so we left the room with a member of staff and went next door. The door opened and we stepped in to an immaculate landing with rooms all clearly numbered we were given room number 8 which was on the first floor and suited us perfectly.||The room was front facing with views across the road which was beautiful looking out these very tall windows every morning.||The bed was a standard double bed, the bedding consisted of mattress protector, fitted sheet, loose sheet, covered duvet, a beautiful deep red runner with matching cushions and 4 hotel standard pillows. The bed was clean and very comfortable.||Our room had a toilet, wash hand basin and shower which they had provided, shampoo, body wash and hand soap along with hand towels/hair towels and bath sheets all immaculate crisp white too.||TV was wall mounted, wardrobe with space to store clothes and hang clothes too.||Kettle, cups, spoons, saucers all crisp white too, hairdryer supplied and wall mounted, glasses for drinking from supplied also.||On our bed when we arrived was a little folding breakfast table with two bottles of complimentary water, two biscuits and two pan au chocolat which we had for breakfast the following morning as we were late waking .|Breakfast is served 7am~9am you can book this in advance or pay at reception.||Our room was reasonably sized, it had one seat and one stool, large mirror, mirror in the bathroom and shaving mirror too. It definitely accommodated two people as it was intended and it also had a larg 3 speed wall mounted 3 speed fan which was an absolute bless in 28-30c heat.||We spent 2 nights at The ABC Hyde park hotel and road noise was minimal, noise from other customers was absolutely fine and the place was busy.||As a fair review I feel I must included the few downsides which were cosmetic, few broken tiles in the bathroom which had been repaired and did not affect its use whatsoever but they were obviously visible, bedroom flooring had some broken beading which could easily be repaired and the inability to further lock your door whilst you sleep was a little unsettling, the door could only be opened by a key but I feel there should be maybe a chain added to help make guests feel more secure at night. ||We sadly didn’t get breakfast both morning and that was our fault we had over slept, I wish we’d had more time to explore local restaurants and all the places recommended to us at check in, to also be able to review the breakfast a d serving staff.||Room service is available during certain hours I think, towels refreshed daily, rubbish collected daily too.||I’ve rated this 5 stars based on how much was paid for stay, cleanliness, friendliness, location and comfort. We have no complaints and we will be back to do a proper review as soon as we can book travel and we are happy to try out another room.||Thanks ABC.||K Webb...
Read moreSo my reviews are very fair and balanced. They are usually not based off of emotions but facts. The rooms are smaller than normal sized bedrooms. We had a full size bed, chair, and tall skinny cabinet in ours everything else was attached to the wall. If you have a problem with small cramped spaces this is not the hotel for you. The hotel staff are all very friendly and are on hand 24hours a day. I didn’t meet anyone who wasn’t polite. There is no lift in the hotel and there are a lot of stairs. If you want a lift or don’t like or can’t walk up a lot of stairs this is not the hotel for you. The wifi is spotty but that could be the fact that I’m from the US or the location itself or my phone or all 3. Here is my one complaint. I’m not sure if this is normal, but they did not change my sheets the entire time I was there. That bothered me a lot. I thought all hotels changed the sheets after each use. I know they weren’t changed because the top sheet had a hole in it and everyday I would come back and find that they just remade the bed not change the sheets. Also the bed was made up of a top sheet instead of a fitted sheet then the top sheet itself, and then a gold comforter which I could smell hadn’t been washed in a while. So I put it in the closet and pulled out a comforter that smelled clean but was made for a twin size bed not a full size bed. We did receive clean towels everyday though.
Overall I wish they would update the rooms and that they would adopt better cleaning/ laundry practices. But other than that the stairs and smallness of space didn’t bother me. They got good points for quietness and closeness to the Paddington Station, as well as being friendly and offering a safe...
