To say we were disappointed with the venue, team, and management is an understatement.
We booked an escape room activity for the team, and then we planned to go to the Boom Battle Bar. The reason the Escape Room comes first is that we wanted an "alcohol-free" activity for our team. Here's where the big problem started: the escape room/Escape Hunt is INSIDE a very big and very loud bar (the Boom Battle Bar, where we were supposed to go afterward). There is no way to know about this until you get there; it’s not written anywhere, and the website makes it look like a very private and nice place. The welcoming area is tiny; it’s squeezed at the end of the bar. So, if you are like me, looking for a place for a team activity, this is not the best option if you have people who can’t drink or be near a bar, alcohol, etc.
The team welcoming us and explaining the games were fun and very flexible, which helped ease the awkwardness of the situation, as we were a large corporate group. We couldn’t welcome our whole team because this was inside a bar, but apart from that, the escape room was fun for those who attended.
Then, we moved to the bar. Our table was booked for 19:00, where we were supposed to be welcomed by our host for the night. I had to chase the manager to find my host at 19:30—and never saw him again. We asked for the welcome table to be ready at 19:00, when the rooms would be finished. We got our food close to 20:00; the table was dirty and had some leftovers of fries. The beverages came separately, and there wasn’t even an ice bucket for them. I had specifically requested alcohol-free beer, but there wasn’t any. The beer was warm.
My colleague had to keep checking and asking when the food would arrive, she stood in front of the kitchen door to try and talk to ANYONE who could help us. They kept saying it was always in 10 minutes. We asked for any nibbles and they brought a small portion of fries for 20 people.
The food arrived late, but it was of good quality and quantity—finger food style, nothing to complain about here. However, the table is beside many other tables, on a dance floor, so we had people sitting in our chairs, putting their finished drinks in the table, and I have pictures of people eating our food—and finding it hilarious while doing so—because "there was no one around." When we were around the table, we had to ASK people not to eat our food. I’m aware this is not something the venue can control, but the way the tables are arranged just makes it easy to not feel that it’s "your corner," and it feels like just a regular bar.
The games were nice, and the team had fun. There is no way to organise what games we have access to, no token, nothing. We have to keep asking, chasing their venue team. It’s worth mentioning that it IS a loud environment, and it IS more of a party place, so I wouldn’t plan to bring my team to a gathering there again.
I received many emails from the company inviting us for a "corporate package, bring your team here" kind of evening. The Oxford Street branch IS NOT the best place for it if you have many people and would like a team gathering in the afternoon. If you are looking to dance and have everyone spread out, then that’s the place.
I was very disappointed; I had expectations and a large group to take care of. I kind of expected more from the venue’s management team. I don’t plan...
Read moreI’m absolutely appalled by the behaviour of the security staff at this Boom Battle Bar. My mum, who was completely sober, had just arrived at the venue and not some youngster looking to cause trouble, was treated with shocking disrespect and abuse of power by one of the guards — a man who was easily twice her size. Before they went inside, they were having a quick smoke outside where he even asked her for a fag, which she kindly gave him.
Despite this brief friendly exchange, once inside he completely misused his authority. When a simple misunderstanding arose, to which my mum responded calmly, the man got in her face, raised his voice, and escalated things unnecessarily, instead of responding with the same tone and discussing the situation in a respectful and mature way. It was clear he was more interested in feeding his own ego than maintaining order. Consequently, my mum ended up visibly shaken and in tears. In my 30 years of life I have not seen her cry once.
I’m shocked that a fully grown man would treat an elder woman with such disrespect. It makes me wonder if his parents ever taught him basic manners or to show respect to older people. I’d understand if my mum had caused trouble and he was responding accordingly — but she was calm and simply trying to get her point across.
To make matters worse, after leaving calmly because he kicked her out, he followed her outside, continuing to intimidate and demand an apology that wasn’t warranted, while she was still shaken and in tears. This kind of aggressive behaviour from security is completely unacceptable and reflects terribly on the management.
I urge others to think carefully before visiting a place where guests can be treated in this manner. I would also strongly recommend that the management review their hiring process to ensure that security personnel are suitable — trained to handle situations professionally, with respect and empathy, rather than abusing their authority.
I would appreciate it if management could provide the name of the security guard involved, as I intend to take this further with the Security Industry Authority. This level of unprofessional and aggressive behaviour by licensed personnel should not...
Read moreI visited Boom Battle Bar Lakeside for Karaoke with my family and absolutely loved it, the vibe, the service, etc. I loved it so much that I decided to book Boom Battle Bar Oxford Street for my leaving do and have a good time with my work colleagues. The atmosphere was amazing, great music, sax playing, loads of people and loads of great activities. We arrived on time for our Karaoke session which started at 19.30 and it’s meant to last for an hour however the group before us was refusing to leave as apparently they were told they could stay for extra time so we had to wait as the staff was sorting it out. We then went in at 19.45, everything was so dirty, no props (as the one in lakeside had pink cowboy hats, funky glasses, etc), some of the music was not working either and we also hadn’t received the jaggermeister paddle board of shots I had preordered. One of the staff members then came in at 20.20 and said “3 more minutes” and I told her we had come in late because of the previous group and she said “well I am telling you you have 3 more minutes only” and did not care - light skin girl with the blonde cornrows, she was extremely rude. Ignored it and spoke to staff again due to not receiving the Jaggermeister paddle board and they were so rude saying that I had not paid for it at first, I then showed them the booking confirmation and they literally had to take a picture of it and go show the manager, even then the manager decided they had to go check CCTV. We proceeded to wait and wait and then finally they gave us our shots. No compensation, no apologies, our Karaoke session was cut short, had to fight for shots we had paid for, the staff was rude, that completely ruined our experience with Boom Battle Bar. Giving it 2 starts because I still very much want to try other branches, and I do believe they must deal with a lot of intoxicated rude customers therefore they must have their “guard” up however it is also not an excuse to treat us the...
