A Mixed Experience

I recently ordered from this restaurant via a takeaway delivery app, and overall, my experience was a mixed bag—some aspects were good, while others were quite disappointing. Here’s my breakdown:

Chicken Sandwich – 3.8/5

A solid chicken burger—moist, flavorful, and complemented by a great sauce that tied everything together well. It wasn’t the best chicken burger I’ve ever had, but it was definitely decent and enjoyable.

3 Chicken Wings – 3/5

The wings were good, but they didn’t blow me away. They were moist and tasty, but the batter was undercoated, leaving some areas without full coverage, which slightly took away from the overall experience.

Chicken Tenders – 0/5

Honestly, a huge disappointment. These were completely inedible—dry, lacking any moisture, and just not enjoyable at all. Given how important texture and juiciness are for tenders, these completely missed the mark.

Fries – 1.2/5

Yes, an odd rating, but these fries were very poor. They were dry, lacked consistency, and were simply difficult to eat. There were plenty of crinkle fries, but they had zero moisture, making them almost impossible to digest.

Milkshake – 2.5/5

A decent milkshake, light and fairly enjoyable in taste. However, I was skeptical about how it was made—whether it was freshly blended with real ice cream or some powdered substitute. Additionally, it wasn’t a thick shake, and personally, I prefer a thick milkshake over a thinner one.

The Best Part? The Sauces – 5/5

One thing that truly stood out was the sauces—they were exceptional, easily deserving a 5/5. However, at the end of the day, I’m not ordering just for the sauce—the chicken, burger, and fries should be the real stars of the meal, and unfortunately, that wasn’t the case here.

Total Score & Average Rating

After calculating the ratings (excluding the sauce), the total score comes to 10.5 out of 25, giving an average rating of 2.1 out of 5.

If I were to include the 5/5 sauce rating, the average would jump to 2.5 out of 5, but I just don’t think it’s fair to let that boost the score. When the sauce is the highlight of a meal, rather than the main components like chicken, fries, or a burger, that tells you everything you need to know.

Why I Don’t Think This Is London’s Best Chicken Shop

I’ve seen a lot of hype around this place, with some people even calling it the best chicken shop in London, but based on my experience, I just don’t see it. • The wings? I’ve had better from Wingstop and Thunderbird Chicken in Clapham, where the coating is crisper, the seasoning is stronger, and the flavors are far more refined. • The chicken sandwich? It was decent, but Beyond Burger and Black Bear Burger, both in London Bridge and Brixton, make far superior chicken sandwiches—better seasoning, better texture, and an overall more premium product. • The tenders? Easily the worst part of the meal. I’ve had better tenders from McDonald’s and even KFC, and neither of those places are exactly known for top-tier quality. The fact that fast-food chains outperformed this place says a lot.

The fact that the sauces were the standout item says everything—when the main event (the chicken itself) is mediocre or even bad, that’s a big issue. I don’t know if the delivery experience played a role, but I’d have to visit in person to see if it’s any different.

Final Thoughts

Would I recommend this place? Based on this one experience, I would say yes for the chicken sandwich and wings, but a hard no for the tenders and fries. If I were to give it another chance, I’d consider visiting in person, as maybe the delivery experience doesn’t do their food justice.

That said, I find the rave reviews misleading. I honestly don’t understand how this place is being hailed as London’s best chicken shop when so many other spots serve better food.

Would I try it again? Maybe, but in person rather than...

I work 1 minute away and have frequently visited this chicken shop since its opening, as it has always been a reliable go-to spot. However, the last two specials have been deeply disappointing.

The Thai special fell short of expectations, and the “Bombay Bad Boy” was an absolute letdown. Rather than crafting a well-balanced dish, they simply coated the wings in an excessive amount of dry spice powder, while the burger was overwhelmingly seasoned with the same overpowering blend, combined with what seemed like a tamarind sauce.

If you’re planning to eat here, I highly recommend sticking to the regular burgers—they’re consistently good and reliable. However, when it comes to the specials, it feels like the passion and effort that once defined them have been lost. As someone who follows a halal diet, I can’t help but feel that this place often gets an unearned pass due to its halal offerings, despite the declining quality of the food.

Speaking as a former loyal customer, I’ve now made the decision never to spend my money here again.

Gunpowder Wings: Dry, carelessly tossed with random seasonings, creating a bitter and unpleasant taste. The tamarind powder and what seemed like garam masala (or a similar spice) were so intense that they even triggered heavy sneezing upon accidental inhalation.

Burger: A heavy-handed mix of turmeric, mint ranch, and the same powdered seasonings, resulting in an unbalanced and unappetizing flavor.

It’s a shame to see the decline in quality, and I truly hope they reconsider their approach to...

Sadly the chicken crispiness and the sauces were below average. Can’t recommend.

For the chicken - I had 3 Naked tenders and 1 popcorn chicken (plain) and a side sauce of Korean Glaze. The chicken was tender and juicy but the despite the “double crunch” ad claim, it was average in terms of crispiness. The seasoning on the chicken was very bland. The Korean glaze sauce was mainly sour.

The gun powder fries arrived lukewarm to cold. Probably because the sauce itself was cold and the fries were just warm not hot. The sauce was again also just mainly sour.

Very glad I got the naked popcorn chicken and tenders cos they would have been cold had they been smothered in sauce. Also there was a lot of sauce, so halfway it was just cold soggy fries.

The overall flavour for my selection was just sour with some sweet. No savoury taste at all. Maybe I chose wrongly.

Service was quick, friendly and good. Tables & chairs are packed in very tightly. I went on a Tuesday night 8pm and it was empty. Once a few more people arrived, it started to feel a bit cramped.

I think could be a lot better if they sorted out the flavours of the sauces and improved the chicken batter & seasoning. Might have a look in a few months to see if the menu has changed & if so, try...
