We had a lovely stay in a really roomy and comfy room. The hotel had recently been renovated and upgraded top-to-bottom, so it was super-smart. There was fast WiFi, an excellent smart TV, and even a high quality coffee-maker with coffee capsules provided too!
The beds and bed linen felt high quality, and the bathroom had a pumped shower with immediate hot water for a lovely, strong shower.
Checking in and gaining entry was interesting - there was no actual key or key card, we were given a personal access code for the rear and front doors and for our room. Easy to use and v hi-tech, checking in was simply a case of entering our code and walking in.
We also reserved a space in the private car park to the rear - the access road was a little tight at the beginning, but we got through OK and the car park was easy to access (also with a code).
Our room was at the front and were a bit concerned about comments in earlier reviews re. road noise. The road is certainly busy, but during the recent renovations they replaced the windows with acoustic glass and it seems to have made a big difference and we had no problem relaxing and sleeping.
Location-wise, it was a short walk to the town centre. The riverside and park are even closer and made for a lovely stroll in the sun (we were lucky with the weather!).
Our room also had it's own fridge and microwave, but the hotel was surrounded by food and drink opportunities and we enjoyed drinks at The Moderation (nice atmosphere), dinner at the Standard Tandoori (great food and v friendly staff), and a delicious breakfast at the Richfields Deli.
Overall, a very nice...
Read moreI chose this hotel because it was on the North side of Reading and I needed to get Sonning Common first thing in the morning.||||Plus points: Staff were very friendly, the rooms were hygenic, the shower was good (instant heat and nice and powerful), TV with quite a few channels if you're into that, it was very reasonably priced.||||Negatives: You have to check in before 9pm, which was a pain for me because it meant I had to check in before going out and the traffic in this area can be REALLY bad. Delayed my evening plans by 2 hours.||The hotel is on a very busy road with limited parking, which (if you can get it) may well require that you leave before 7am if you wish to avoid a ticket.||Rooms are slightly tired.||||Over all: If you are a rep looking for an easily accessible no-hassle hotel I would not recommend staying here. On the other hand, if you don't need to drive and are looking for a cheap place to stay for a few days it's not terrible.||||The only advise I could offer the owners would be to consider changing the drapes and bedcovers.. they look dated and make the rooms feel a bit tired. Something newer/brighter might give a better impression. The rooms ARE clean, but you might not get that impression when you...
Read moreHotel is refurbished, at leas part I stayed in (13th floor), could see on some floors work still ongoing.||||Rooms are ok in size, compared to hotels in central London.||||Breakfast is solid, classic English, together with toast, cheese, yogurt and grains to choose from, but for longer stay (I stayed for 2 weeks) it lacks some diversity.||||Beads are quite good, with very good pillows so I didn't have to use my own with goose feathers.||||I could not hear traffic from outside, so am very happy with quality of sleep.||||Bathroom is somewhat strange, but clean. Shower is very good, especially considering it's the top floor.||||Staff is most friendly, although I got the feeling they are all from the same family :)||||Breakfast manager is especially helpful and keeps things ongoing, event though sometimes there was lack of certain food for over 10 minutes.||||Wifi is free, but not very fast, could watch streams in low quality only, youtube HD videos took a lot to load. However, quality of connection is very good and for normal surfing/emailing it is more than enough.||||Downside to this hotel is it does not have any gym/sauna facilities.||||All in all, I would recommend this hotel to anyone not having "Hilton"...
