A Deeply Disappointing Experience – Urgent Need for Improvement
Unfortunately, our recent visit was deeply disappointing from the outset. From the moment we were seated, the service fell far below acceptable standards. We waited over 15 minutes without being acknowledged and had to ask twice for someone to take our order. When a member of staff finally approached, we learned that many of the dishes listed on the menu were unavailable, something we weren’t informed of in advance.
Given the delay, we asked if we could at least begin with drinks and starters. However, we were alarmed to see alcoholic beverages such as Jack Daniel’s and vodka listed under the mocktails section of the menu. This is not only misleading but also potentially dangerous, as mocktails are expected to be alcohol-free. When we raised this concern, it was dismissed as a printing error, which, while perhaps unintentional, requires urgent correction to avoid serious consequences.
The drinks themselves were poorly prepared, not fresh, extremely diluted, and, in some cases, incorrect. When we explained this to another member of staff, rather than addressing our concerns with empathy or professionalism, we were abruptly told that “nothing fresh is available.” This was not only disappointing but also troubling from a quality and food safety standpoint.
Our starters then arrived with stale bread, which led us to cancel our main courses and cut the evening short. At no point did any staff member apologise or express any willingness to improve the experience. In fact, when we shared our concerns, the response was dismissive, noting only that “others are happy,” rather than acknowledging our feedback or attempting to make amends.
This establishment appears to lack not only basic service training but also fundamental standards in hospitality, communication, and food safety. We strongly recommend a thorough review of staff training procedures, menu accuracy, and food preparation practices. Furthermore, a visit from local health and safety authorities may be warranted given our experience.
While we understand that experiences can vary, the consistently glowing reviews we saw online are difficult to reconcile with the service and quality we received. They appear to reflect a very specific demographic and do not seem representative of a broader customer base.
We hope this feedback is taken seriously and used as an opportunity for genuine improvement, not only for future guests, but for the credibility and growth of the...
Read moreAn honest Persian food lovers review.
Upon arriving you’ll be hit with the stench of a stale bar, very musty smell. But you push past that.
In a dimly lit, bar/reception area, you have to beckon a waiter to be seated. They are not very forthcoming. Wearing some obscure political Iranian secular t-shirts!
Ordering a platter it comes with the blandest, most inedible rice, with a squirt of yellow looking food colouring; is this meant to be saffron, clearly not.
The bread costs £2.20 a portion, no where in the UK do you pay for complimentary bread, it was cold, burnt and not the best As an accompaniment to the meat.
The meat platter was over cooked, bland, unseasoned, tough and chewy. At £70/plate it was not worth the price, if only it had been cooked and edible!! Tender it was not! If you want chops, or anything remotely interesting you’ve got to order it separately. Lamb chops were, a small Portion of at £21-00, really!!! This wasn’t Salt-Bae/Nusr et!! Something very wrong here!
You are almost forced to buy cans, at £2.95, this is reading not Kensington! Even asking for tap water is frowned upon.
The waiters/waitresses are condescending, whilst having limited English, they place a 10% compulsory service charge, where service from them was inept, rude and quite hostile.
When we asked about the service-less service charge they said they’d have to refer it to a remote manager and that she’d have to decide. So, I rest my case, no one’s in charge and fail they will. Time to jump into the Thames, about the only good thing about this place.

Avoid this place and try other venues. Will definitely not be returning again...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Persian Palace in Reading, and I can confidently say it has become my go-to spot for both relaxation and incredible food. Over the course of 24 hours, my friends and I visited this gem three times, and each visit was better than the last.
What truly sets this place apart is the warm and welcoming atmosphere, thanks in large part to Nahid. From the moment we walked in, Nahid made us feel right at home. Her kindness and attentiveness are unmatched, and she has a remarkable way of making every guest feel like family. It’s rare to find such genuine hospitality, and Nahid's warmth made our experience all the more special.
The food at Persian Palace in Reading exceeded all my expectations, even as a regular customer of their Ealing branch. The dishes are authentically Persian, bursting with flavor, and cooked to perfection. Whether it was the succulent kebabs, the aromatic rice, or the perfectly spiced stews, every bite was a delightful journey into Persian cuisine. The consistency and quality of the food during each of our visits were outstanding, which speaks volumes about the dedication of the kitchen staff.
Given its proximity to the Reading Festival, Persian Palace was the perfect spot for us to unwind and recharge between the excitement. The ambiance is both cozy and elegant, making it an ideal place to escape the festival crowds and enjoy a delicious meal in a relaxed setting.
The View and atmosphere is Electeic and so peaceful with a nice view of the river and opening windows to enjoy the weather.
In summary, Persian Palace in Reading is a true find. With Nahid's exceptional hospitality and the consistently excellent food, it's a place that leaves a lasting impression. I can’t recommend it highly enough and look forward to...
