Such rude attitude
I walked in with a small dog—just 4 pounds—and the hostess immediately responded in a very rude way, telling me I couldn’t be inside with the dog (who is a service animal). That’s understandable—some places aren’t dog-friendly and there are regulations as well. They had tables outside, so I asked if I could place an order and then sit there. Instead, the hostess—and then the barista who joined her—both kept repeating, in a rude tone, that I had to leave the restaurant with the dog (as it was a nuclear weapon not a small animal). One of them even suggested I leash the dog outside, which is absurd for a 4-pound dog. They’re never meant to be left like that.
What could the staff have done differently to be more customer-friendly? First, just be kind, polite and professional - especially if you're saying no. There's no reason to make the customer feel worse. Second, they could’ve taken my order outside so I could still enjoy the place and where my dog posed no harm to their space. Instead, I was met with such hostility that I won’t ever go back—even without the dog.
I kept walking and ended up finding a lovely food market with great coffee. Went in, placed an order, and sat outside enjoying the day—it was my...
Read moreI've been coming to this Coffee Shop about 14 years now. My goodness how people have aged! The owner Mrs Karen has always treated me with respect every time I have gone in. Beautiful floral ornaments, new attempts at GF food and unprocessed candy, and of course there Signature Oatmeal are just a few things you can find; as well as interesting chocolates. The owner treats you the same whether you are homeless or rich, I find this simple thing to be Fascinating, because I myself was homeless on the streets of Anchorage for nearly a decade, I'm doing quite well now, however in my darkest years I could find a cup of coffee here served with a smile, and now in my brightest years, I can also find a cup of coffee with a smile. This place has been a pinnacle in my life course, a place of deep comfort, an example to treat others with respect no matter who they may be, I have observed this coffee shop for 14 years now, and I hope to enjoy it for another 14. Thank you for the years...
Read moreI visited Dark Horse Coffee for the first time today while visiting Anchorage, AK. The cafe is located in the Downtown area which seems convenient. I ordered an iced latte with a bit of their sugar free blueberry syrup flavour shot, their award winning Vegan Pancake Bowl, and a chocolate covered coconut macaron. The iced latte wasn't the best to be honest, as to me it tasted too bitter and I only ended up having a few sips of the drink. The Pancake Bowl was truly delicious and something new that I hadn't tried before; I enjoyed it very much but wasn't a fan of the cashew yogurt on top, all else paired nicely. Lastly, the chocolate covered coconut macaron was tasty as well. In my opinion, the items were all fairly priced and the service was good. The atmosphere of the cafe could use some work in terms of ambience and updating. If I'm in the Downtown area again, I'd definitely visit again just for the Pancake...
