First I'd like to say that I was extremely disappointed with this new location on so many levels from the staff to the food that came to the table. I've always been a huge fan of Gilchrist making this my first stop once coming into Atlantic City today to only find the original location had closed early due to complications. So my mom suggested we visit the new location on Chelsea Ave. The staff was very unpleasant & no one came to check on whether things were ok or if anything else was needed. Our waitress Colleen or Illeen, I know her name had a "leen" in it acted as if me & my family were inconveniencing her by coming here, especially when my mom asked for a coke & a coffee, and she literally said in a rude manner, "you want a coffee too" as if it was forbidden to ask for both. When the food finally came to the table, the food was "COLD" all of it. I have never had cold grits in my LIFE!! Until I experienced this "NEW" location. I don't know about anyone else but I like my food hot, especially my grits. The food may have very well been hot but Colleen was very busy filling up syrup bottles, salt shakers, and laughing with other staff instead of attending to customers. This location is NOTHING like the original location & every single person in the Gilchrist location on Chelsea Ave needs to take hospitality classes or get out of this industry!! If this location doesn't improve, it will diminish the upstanding reputation Gilchrist has worked so hard to accomplish hence why this new location came about. I come all the way from Maryland & Atlantic City is well known for tourism & if I could give negative stars for this review I would. I will not be returning to the Chelsea Ave location ever again & honestly I probably would've recieved better service from McDonald's as well...
Read moreI recently had breakfast at Gilchrist inside Tropicana Atlantic City, and overall, it was a pleasant but mixed experience. The restaurant itself is very charming—bright, inviting, and has that “cute, local café” vibe despite being right in the middle of a busy casino resort. It’s the kind of place where you feel comfortable settling in for a casual meal before heading out to enjoy the rest of the day.
The staff were friendly and respectful throughout my visit, which helped make the experience feel warm and welcoming. Service was attentive enough without being overbearing, and the overall atmosphere was laid-back in a nice way.
As for the food, it was decent but not without flaws. I ordered eggs, and while they weren’t made exactly the way I requested, the rest of the breakfast was fine. The flavors were there, portions were fair, and nothing tasted off—it just wasn’t executed perfectly. It felt more like diner-style cooking than elevated breakfast, which can be either a plus or a minus depending on your expectations.
Price-wise, it seemed reasonable for being inside Tropicana, especially considering many resort restaurants tend to be on the higher side. Gilchrist feels like a nice little escape where you can grab a straightforward meal without breaking the bank.
All in all, Gilchrist at Tropicana is a cute and reliable breakfast spot with friendly service. While the food could use a little more attention to detail, it’s still worth stopping by for a casual and comfortable...

Stop looking around for breakfast! This will be your goto spot if you’re willing to make the trip sense it’s at the far end of Tropicana on a local street.
I had previously assumed Coastal Craft at Harrahs was the best in the area until I came here.
First off the coffee was not like any other, less caffeine potent and very smooth/light taste. The eggs were done medium just as I like em, the bacon was crispy, the potatoes were toasty, and I’m not one for pancakes but hungryman comes with them so I got the Banana Pancakes and they were slamming. My girl loved her French toast as well with a side of bacon.
On top of our waitress being attentive, the entire staff was as well ensuring we were good every few mins. Everybody was on the same page working unison with 100% satisfaction guarantee. I did not feel uncomfortable here at all. Felt just like any ordinary customer which I loved about the place being fact me and my girl are Hispanic and Black. They treat everyone the same here and for that if I can give more than 5 stars I would.
Last thing which is the icing on the cake is the price point, every other breakfast in the area the bill was no less than $60 but here I paid $28 (2 individuals) for amazing food, excellent service, chill atmosphere, and outstanding staff. If they doubled the price I wouldn’t even care, hopefully they don’t increase the price lol.
Def plan to come here again sometime soon when...
