I recently stayed at the Westin Austin Downtown. I had researched many similar properties in the area and made the choice based on the walkable location to attractions and poolside fire pits pictured (sadly no fire pits please remove those photos). We found the hotel to be in a great location, with Antones (live music venue) and Eddie V.’s (live music and very good restaurant) across the street. There were a few food trucks right around the front entrance for a bite to eat. It was very close to the lively action on 6th Street. We walked and Ubered easily from the location. I found the hotel to feel safe and convenient, but very mediocre in terms of staff and room. There are other hotels that are in the vicinity in similar price range, worth checking out.||||The service experience and attention to detail of housekeeping was not at a level I’d expect from a Westin or any $350/night hotel. I am a Marriott Bobby member, but was unable to request early check-in without going to front desk. That defeats the purpose of the app. The line was long and slow with three people who looked like they were standing around. Maybe they were training or new? When I was served and offered a mimosa, my prepaid room reservation was incorrect. I had paid a month in advance and verified the day before my arrival the room was all set, but it was incorrect at check-in with a king bed vs. 2 queens. Cindy was able to “upgrade” me to an executive queen 2 beds, but nothing special as far as I could tell, additionally I was able to check in early.||||The shower head in the bathroom didn’t work well, more of a drizzle than a rain shower head. One of the queen beds had a disgusting stain on the bedding. We told one of the customer service people and he was very apologetic and was willing to do anything to make sure we were happy. They sent house keeping to change the bedding and we received a hand written apology and dessert plate, which was an effort. We didn’t request house keeping daily, but when waters and coffee were requested, we didn’t get all the coffee condiments, just coffees with waters. They also did not empty garbages/recycling when they came to room with coffee/water or provide more toilet paper when we had just a roll. Overall a lack of attention to detail. We found the pool to be small and overcrowded during prime time happy hour, but enjoyed a delightful am when it was empty. Finally for checkout, I requested late checkout, which they were able to accommodated. We left the hotel and came back to the room keys inactive. Housekeeping let us in for our belongings and on the way out I asked for our bill to be printed out. Once again, slow service, difficulty printing and said final billing statement would be emailed. I never received an email, but was charged for the room I prepaid!! When contacted, they were very apologetic, but still waiting for the charge to be refunded. This hotel has location going for it, but that’s...
Read moreThe Westin is not worth for all the trouble it has caused. First I was charged three times 600+ payments for the room. Which took two weeks to be resolved. This caused a lot of limitations for me being a college student working part time having to pay tuition, rent, etc.
At check out I scanned my phone for the deposit (which shows in my account). I was informed the deposit would cover the valet & the rest would be for room incidentals.
Valet was not friendly & not worth the money they charge you for it. It would have been nice if they at least offered women help to lift their luggage in their car instead of just standing there & watching you struggle.
The bellboy & HK were very nice. The room cleaningness is ok. It’s decent but the lighting is terrible. The roof top pool is not impressive. We had asked if we could get a water pack we had left in the car. The front desk said, “we will ask valet to bring it in & take it to your room.” Which I replied its “ok we can go down for it.” But he assures me again that they will bring it up for us. Time passes & the water never comes. We go to FD and the water is there. Why promise something you are not going to do? We didn’t mind going down there first. We also had to get our keys reactivated.
After we leave, on our way home I get a bank notification for a decline of $149.37 from the hotel along with an email from the hotel manager stating that I need to fill out a form to authorize a payment for valet for $49. Which is different from what they were trying to take out originally.
Now after driving hours to get home, instead of relaxing and getting important things done I have to solve this issue. This vacation was supposed to be a small break for us from our busy schedules & The Westin has completely ruined the Austin experience. So this will be the last & only time we will be staying here. My advice book somewhere else the stress is...
Read moreI love the Westin downtown! This is the perfect hotel if you’re coming to Austin for the first time or taking a staycation like us. Viktor was splendid for our check in and gave us a warm welcome. The hotel is beautiful and we loved that it was pet friendly. We actually couldn’t believe it was pet friendly because the rooms the entire hotel is so clean. The rooms were immaculate and besides seeing a couple pets in going in and out you would never believe it. The hotel is very close by to pretty much everything— all different kinds of food, nightlight, and experiences. The area is very safe, you are in a hustling downtown but it is patrolled by safety/police/resource officers. We were worried at first due to other reviews, but we never found any issue with those experiencing homelessness it isn’t out of the norm compared to pretty much other downtown areas across the country and everyone minded their own business.
Two points for improvement: When booking our hotel, we noticed through the app that we could reserve an amenity experience with a wellness kit, which included a Volt device and leg compressors. We booked it, but when we went downstairs to pick it up on our reserved day, it wasn’t available. We were assured it would be ready later, but after several follow-ups and some back-and-forth, we finally received a call about six hours later saying it was available. When we picked it up, several items were missing. Because we had signed a waiver agreeing to return all items, we chose to return the kit right away to avoid being held responsible for missing pieces we never received or used.
Additionally, the valet fee I’d say is unreasonable between 60-80 dollars a day depending on your car.
All in all, though, this was an amazing stay, and we plan to make this our go-to hotel whenever we...
