The Courtyard by Marriott Austin Downtown is a true gem in the heart of the vibrant city of Austin, Texas. I recently had the pleasure of staying at this remarkable hotel, and I can't say enough positive things about my experience. From its exceptional proximity to the convention center, entertainment areas, and an array of top-notch restaurants, this hotel offers a truly memorable stay that exceeded all my expectations.
First and foremost, the hotel's location is an absolute standout. Situated just a stone's throw away from the Austin Convention Center, it's a haven for business travelers attending conferences, conventions, and trade shows. I was in town for a business event, and the convenience of being able to walk to the convention center was a major plus. No need to deal with traffic or parking hassles – it made my trip stress-free and more productive.
In addition to its closeness to the convention center, the Courtyard by Marriott Austin Downtown also boasts easy access to the city's vibrant entertainment areas. Whether you're into live music, arts, or cultural events, you'll find an abundance of options just a short walk from the hotel. The famed 6th Street Entertainment District is within walking distance, offering a lively atmosphere filled with bars, clubs, and live music venues. It's the perfect place to experience Austin's renowned music scene and vibrant nightlife.
The hotel's commitment to comfort and luxury is evident in every aspect of the property. The rooms are well-appointed and offer a perfect blend of modern design and cozy ambiance. I was particularly impressed with the plush bedding and spacious bathrooms. The attention to detail was truly exceptional, making my stay feel like a home away from home.
One of the standout features of the Courtyard by Marriott Austin Downtown is its outstanding dining options. While there are countless incredible restaurants in Austin, you don't have to venture far to enjoy delicious meals. The in-house restaurant and bar serve delectable cuisine and craft cocktails. I had a delightful dining experience at the hotel's restaurant, which offered a diverse menu with something for every palate. And the convenience of being able to grab a delicious meal without leaving the hotel was a significant benefit, especially after a long day of meetings or exploring the city.
The hotel staff also deserves praise for their impeccable service. From the moment I checked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and a genuine commitment to making my stay enjoyable. They were always ready to assist with any request or question I had, and their professionalism and friendliness made a lasting impression.
In summary, the Courtyard by Marriott Austin Downtown is an exceptional hotel that truly offers great value for your money. Its prime location, just steps away from the convention center, along with its proximity to entertainment areas and top-tier dining options, makes it an ideal choice for both business and leisure travelers. The comfortable accommodations and exceptional service create an all-encompassing experience that leaves a lasting impression. I can't recommend this hotel enough and will definitely be returning on my next...
Read moreToo much went wrong with this visit to explain, but I’ll type the mail issues. When I checked in, I asked if I could pre-order food from the Bistro. I was told “not usually, but you can always try and they might do it”. So I ordered DoorDash instead. Had 2 broken coffeemakers until 3rd one worked. Only 1 coffee cup came with the room with 3 lids that didn’t fit. Sugar packets were moist & stuck together. Gross. First time I called front desk for phone & coffeemaker I was told someone would come up, but after waiting 2+ hours (delaying my shower as to be able to answer door), still no one showed so I had to call front desk again. Was awakened BOTH mornings before noon by housekeeping banging on door even though Do Not Disturb sign was ON THE DOOR and I had requested 2:00 late check out. I was SOUND ASLEEP both times, with the expectation that I would be able to sleep. I called the front desk on the 2nd night to request late check out at 2:00. When I called the next morning after being awakened before noon, the lady said there was no note on my room for late check out and she didn’t get the note. She apologized & offered to add point to my bonvoy account. The phone did not work. When a worker came to fix it, I was told the room connection did not work for a phone. Yet he left the phone in the room (maybe for looks for the next guest?). Every time I had to contact front desk (probably 10 times in 2 days), had to call from my personal phone. Twice when I contacted front desk with problems, the lady who answered told me she was working on something else and I needed to hang on because she needed to finish what she was doing. (Sounded like older lady with smokers voice). The other times I called, the ladies wee much more friendly & helpful, not rude like the smoker lady. We ate at the bistro. After a longer than expected wait on our simple order, the meatballs that were served to us were practically still frozen in the middle!!! We had to send them back. When the “chef” brought out the new order, they were nice & hot. However we had also ordered a pizza which was supposed to have basil on top. There was arugula but not basil (totally different flavors). When we asked the “chef”, he said well it was only on there for color (!!!???!!!). But at least the pizza tasted decent. There was a light in the room under the TV that had a switch that didn’t work so I couldn’t turn it off (I didn’t bother calling about it after everything else). The guide on the TV didn’t work, so it was hit & miss trying to find a station. The elevator floor was held together with duct tape! This is where I will stop. I was so incredibly disappointed with this experience. I always use Bonvoy hotels, but never this one again. I stayed here about 10 years ago & I don’t recall having such a horrible experience, but the circumstances of my visit were also very different. The worst part, BY FAR, was being awakened by banging on the door BOTH mornings. When I had CLEARLY taken the necessary steps to prevent that...
Read moreHotel is fine overall - good location, clean rooms.
Their alternate layout makes for interesting pictures, but not all that practical. In a typical rectangular room, they place the bed along the wall next to the bathroom, rather than the usual spot along the wall that runs perpendicular to the window. But the tv is in the normal place. So you have to contort your body in a weird way to watch tv in bed. This also forces them to use smaller night stands, and the space on the right side of the bed isn't sufficient to comfortably walk...
We had problems with our reservation. We paid for a normal king sized room, but upon arrival, they tried to give us an accessible room (which costs less). We also requested a room in a quiet location - they gave us one right across from the elevator. We were woken up every night by noisy partiers.
When making the reservation, we clicked the box asking them not to clean our room during our stay. This was re-affirmed at check-in. Nonetheless we came back one day to found our room cleaned. When I called to complain, rather than asking what they could do to make things right, they put me on hold so they could talk to housekeeping to find out what happened. After 3 minutes, I hung up. They never followed up. When I went to address this with the front desk, the manager passively aggressively said all these things were our fault.
When we opened the curtains, we were surprised how dirty the windows were. We had requested a room with a view, which was also ignored. But it would not have mattered because the dirt would have made it difficult to enjoy.
The light in our entryway flickered, and never worked properly. The faucet in the bathroom sprays onto the countertop. We didn't want to be bothered by having someone try to fix them while we were staying here, but don't know how they weren't noticed/addressed before we checked in.
Our floor had signs pointing toward the gym & pool. We followed them around the hotel only for them to lead nowhere. We asked an employee, who informed us they are on a different floor. When we went to that floor there were no signs for either. When I told the manager about this, she basically said I was making this up. I think they call that gaslighting.
The final problem is that they seem to have problems with their elevators. At one point, only one was working, causing us to get a late fee on our Uber.
12/20 Update: In response to the owner asking if there is anything they can do to make up for this, I spent an hour on the phone with Marriott's corporate office detailing the problems. They promised someone would respond to my request for some free night's stays or some other compensation. All I got was another email from the same problematic manager...
