I stayed here for an important stay. I'm moving here and needed a temporary home. Normally, I'd choose AirBnB for long-term stays, but I wanted to give Marriott a go because I'm an Ambassador level member and want to maintain loyalty.
I was fortunate to get a corner 2-beroom suite, but the fortune ends there. The staff are wonderful, all 4 of them. The hotel was sold out but there were no staff basically. Every request you have will take 3-5 hours or even 24 hours depending on who forgets because they're overwhelmed. This is not at all on the staff. This is on whoever higher up is demanding hotels open up to full capacity regardless of waiting for adequate staffing. They're prioritizing recouping revenue lost from pandemic over brand image. Probably will just pay for a fancy brand campaign 2 years from now after enough bad experiences get reported. It's just really unfair to the staff too. They represent the hotel indirectly and people angrily waiting in line redirect their frustration to them in that moment despite it not being their fault at all that managing staff is ok having 1 person run the entire check-in desk for BOTH the Courtyard AND the Residence Inn despite basically being sold out. Really unfair treatment to these workers.
The room was pretty but it was filthy. The floors were dirty. I had to ask them to bring me a mop so I could mop it myself because during pandemic, they aren't allowed to have daily cleanings, so everything is request-based, hence why it's so frustrating how long it takes to get stuff. this was a 30+ day stay. I needed refreshes of many things often of course. The room had like 2 spoons, no forks, and 1 knife for my stay. Like someone obviously stole stuff from previous visits.
There was a really absurd day with the shower. I needed to shower and I ran out of conditioner, shampoo, and body wash. They have some new dispenser type thing for these and the staff wasn't trained in how to use them. It took 4 people, a video call, and 6 hours overall for them to figure out how to replace this. I ended up not being able to shower before a really important meeting. When they left, they had their shoes in the shower and left it covered in some sort of footprints that must have been toxic slude lol because it would NOT come off. They had to come up with a Mr Clean magic eraser to get it off and even then it took like 30 minutes of scrubbing.
Breakfast was basically canceled. U needed to get it from front desk but...

This has been the single most horrifying, traumatizing and unprofessional experience I have ever had in my life at a hotel. I was on vacation with my five girlfriends. It was our first time in Austin and we were all looking forward to spending some quality time together and exploring the city. We were playing music in our room talking, when security came and asked us to turn it down, which we did. Not 2 minutes later, the security officer came back again and said we were still being loud, and if we could “stop talking”. We said that were “literally just talking”, but that we obviously would try to keep it down. We went out on the town for about an hour, then came back around 2am and went to bed. At approximately 4:45AM, while we were deeply asleep, we were awoken by a loud and aggressive knocking. It was a manager of the hotel, flanked by two armed police officers. He said we violated hotel policy with the noise complaints and had to pack up and go immediately. We asked for clarification, since we weren’t aware of any part of this policy. We were not giving any answers, and we’re treated like criminals, not only by management, but by the police officers themselves. Any questions we had was met with crude language and intimidation. Upon leaving, a man working the front desk had to be held back when my friend asked for his name, who, based on his body language, seemed to want to physically assault her. They did not have any alternate stay suggestions, and at 5:30am, us five females were alone on the street with our luggage, but without protection or a place to stay. We felt extremely vulnerable, compromised, and unsafe. We were lucky that the Westin was accommodating- if you are considering to come to Austin, I would recommend that instead.
I have never been treated like this in my whole life, and am extremely disappointed by the actions of the Residence Inn management and the Austin police officers. I will not be returning to Austin, and I will most definitely never use the Residences Inn ever again. The emotional toll of this altercation ruined our...
Read moreWe recently stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott on 4th street for my son's graduation from UT Austin. Our experience was amazing, from valeting our car, to checking in to our rooms. The property is clean, organized, and has an amazing staff that made our experience one of the best!
The entire staff was pleasant, cheerful, Helpful and very accommodating. I am in the hospitality business and often I do not get a chance to see how hard the staff works to make a great experience for their guests.
I would like to say thank you to Matthew, the front office manager for having to deal with me calling 100 times. Just kidding. He blocked out to rooms together and took special care that we were by the elevator due to my mother's condition.
Promise, was at the Champions Sports Bar over on the Courtyard side. It was so convenient after a long trip to be able to eat a great hot meal and not have to walk too far.Promise, our server was so personable and made everything so easy for a crazy party of 6. She knew what we needed before we even asked. I also loved to hear her story of where she was from and how she ended up in Austin. She is definitely a gem!
Rose, checked us in to our rooms with a smile on her face, quick and easy and no problems at all. She answered all our questions when we knew she was so busy. She deserves to be recognized for her patience and calm demeanor while doing so. She was so professional and so great. :)
My last shout out is to George Varela. He took care of us in a manner I have never seen in my entire career. He helped his staff, a huge team player, while taking care of numerous guests. He went way above and beyond for us and we appreciate that completely.
It's the people who make the hotel successful and make you want to return. We will definitely stay again in a future. Thank you to every department that made my son's graduation less stressful than...
