My husband and I stayed at The Bangor Grande for about 12 nights in early March. We chose it mostly for the price. We also wanted a pool, especially since March weather in Bangor isn't always conducive to outdoor activities.||The hotel was ok for the price. The staff was mostly friendly, although I did overhear a conversation at the front desk that should have been private between an employee and “the boss” as she referred to herself. From the website description, I expected the hotel to be a little nicer. The main areas were clean, but other places looked grungy. ||The room was clean with a comfortable bed. We appreciated the bottled water. Instead of individual coffee makers in the room, a common coffee station was set up in the lobby. It was well supplied and included a microwave. We could control the heat in our room but found it tricky to set it just right, not too hot, not too cold.||The hotel provided soap, shampoo, make-up wipes, and a hair dryer. Towels were clean. The shower was not hot the first morning, but after that, it was plenty hot. The toilet paper was cheap and scratchy.||The pool was ok. During our arrival and on the following weekend, a children's pool party took place. We liked that we could invite our son and his family to enjoy the pool with us. The pool was less busy on weekdays. The pool deck had pieces of cheese (left from a party?) and hair. I would not call the pool area “an oasis,” as the hotel's website states. It's a basic pool area.||The exercise room had an old treadmill and NordicTrac bike. Neither looked as if they had recently been wiped clean, and there was no spray cleaner that I could see to wipe the machines down before or after use. The exercise room was extremely warm.||The side entrance area was littered with cigarette butts and other trash along the perimeter of the parking lot. The trash could have been left behind by melting snow banks, but still. You'd think someone would walk around the building every day to inspect and pick up trash.||Despite a sign on the door asking people to smoke away from the entrance, almost every time we went in and out, someone, usually a couple of people, were smoking near the door.||Another disappointment we experienced was the slow wifi. It interrupted both tv streaming and Internet activity on our laptops, tablets, or phones. We had to turn wifi off and use our data plans a few times to accomplish tasks.||I wanted this to be a good experience. It wasn't horrible, just disappointing because the details I noticed would not take much money or effort to fix. More attention to detail and a more pride in how the property looks could make a huge difference.||If you usually prefer high-end and posh, this hotel is not for you. If you are looking for economy and can overlook the untidy appearance, then The Bangor Grande will be a fine...
Read more0 stars really. Had a reservation made, got confirmation email. On the day of my stay I go to check in and my daughter and I were informed that our reservation had been cancelled for no apparent reason. I’m asking questions of the employee at the front desk. The woman becomes rude and disagreeable. She informs me that a member of the staff at the hotel had cancelled the reservation but no reason was given. I ask to speak to a manager. I’m told there is no possible way to speak to a manager until Monday (this was on a Saturday). We immediately call the site we had booked the room with. They on their end still show us having a reservation. A call is put through to the Hotel. After almost 30 minutes someone at the front desk finally answers the phone. As the booking site is explaining that we have a reservation and are entitled to our room, the same woman at the front desk is becoming extremely rude to the representative from the booking site. The story concerning the cancellation changes. It is now said that we were the ones who cancelled the reservation (earlier it was a member of staff) and there is no possible way they can give my daughter and I a room. Beyond angry and disappointed in the way we were treated. Thankfully we were not from out of state. We were in Bangor for soccer games (4 of them). We ended up having to drive the 2 hours home and then 2 hours there and back again the next day. I will never stay at this hotel or recommend this hotel. Extremely unprofessional. This was going to be my daughters first experience staying at a hotel. Other members of her team were staying also. Unfortunately her experience was instead of being spoken down to and rudely. What an impression this has made with us about...
Read morePoor (one star) does not begin to explain what a horrible place this hotel was. But I cannot click the next button until I give them at least one star. Please DO NOT stay at the Ramada by Wyndham in Bangor, Maine. This is the WORST experience my husband or myself have ever had at a hotel. We have a small dog that stayed with us for the night of June 25th. One night, leave the next morning. The receptionist took our reservation for that night over the phone. The room had a strong lingering oder, and the sheets had stains on them. Within a few minutes people were outside in the parking lot. People standing, sitting, shouting, dancing, pacing the parking lot where the vehicles could park for the back building of the hotel. Some of them began slamming doors, specifically the lobby and outside doors, which were next to our room. They also ran up and down the stairs, which were on the other side of our room's wall. After about 20 minutes, someone started kicking their own vehicle. My husband had moved our truck right outside our room's window and right under a parking lot lamp. This person's vehicle was parked right next to our truck and they were kicking it. All while we started to sweat in our room with a broken a/c. My husband and I left once the noise quieted down a little. But there were still 4 people hanging out, outside the number 4 building of the Ramada. Needless to say we were pretty livid. However my husband requested our money back and listed the reasons why were were leaving. So we should be reimbursed. After all this, we ended up driving through the night, back to NY because we could not book another hotel, due to covid laws. I say again, please DO NOT stay at the...
