5 STAR PRICES @ 2 STAR AMENITIES. The innkeepers were very nice and this review is not personal. For $250/night off season we wanted a cozy B&B not the feeling of staying with strangers where the kitchen is off limits.
BREAKFAST - The breakfast had no options. No glasses of water were provided. In fact, no water was provided at all. All stay. We were there hiking and had to fill our hydration pack out of the bathroom sink. Or buy it at the Circle K.
The first day was crepes for 2. This consisted of 2 crepes in total. One each for me and my wife. All fruit and sweet whipped filling. Not a good base for hiking. The second day was a veggie omelet for 2. It was big but had an excessive amount of mushrooms. I cannot stand mushrooms but no one asked me so I picked them out. Both days we stopped for breakfast after leaving and before we went hiking.
BEDROOM - It was ok. Under the bed had some dust and an old water bottle. Not ours. Behind the dresser was a baseboard heater covered in dust. The bathroom ceiling had water stains and only 1 out 4 lights over the shower worked. Water seemed to pool in the shower. Weird taking a shower in a stand up stall in standing water.
SPA - The spa was something we were looking forward to. Especially the sauna and hot tub. Hiking all day, sauna and hot tub after. Nothing better. Sauna was out of order. You needed 6 hours notice to use the hot tub. Pool could have used a draining and then thorough cleaning.
CLEANLINESS - Right when you walk in there were spider webs on the ceiling. With insects caught in the web. Location was directly above the main desk. Otherwise it was pretty clean. But for $250 a night (offseason) you would think this would be cleaner.
AMENITIES - There was no coffee outside of breakfast. Breakfast was 8-9 so if you want to get out to hike early you better bring your own coffee and breakfast. It felt like we were imposing on strangers. There was wine and cheese on the table in the evening but the cheese seemed to be out for a long time. It was under glass though. Parking was not convenient. It was either 2 driveway spots or on the street. They had a car with a tarp on it in the driveway. Again, like we were imposing on strangers. I think they should move that car so their paying guests can have convenient parking.
OVERALL - The inn needs repairs inside. See photos. Wish I would have taken more. We regret staying here and wished we would have stayed in a motel.
Joan the inn keeper mentioned they bought the place to have a big house for their large family get togethers. It felt like that. There are family photos all over. The main entry has a glass wall with diplomas for each of their kids and for the inn keepers. I'm sure they are proud of their achievements but again, it felt like you were staying in someone else's home. Except you couldn't use...
Read moreI just returned home from my stay at the Chiltern Inn B&B and had to write a review. Let preface this review by stating that I visit Bar Harbor numerous times during the year on business and have stayed at a variety of Hotels, Motels and B&B’s in all price ranges. I booked this stay through Expedia. The online photos of the property were exceptional, the rooms looked beautifully appointed, so I made a reservation for two nights in what they call the Abbott Suite. The nonrefundable fee was $422 for the two nights, not unreasonable for a B&B in Bar Harbor. ||||However, after booking I receive an email from the property stating that although the Abbott Suite was on the same property, attached to the main building, we would not get breakfast or maid service?? This tidbit of information is not listed anywhere on their online advertising. I decided to go ahead and stay anyway.||The Abbott Suite is supposedly a converted carriage house? The room/suite was clean with furnishings from probably the late 19th century nothing spectacular. The bed was comfortable and that is where it ends. ||The Toilet and shower were curiously crammed into what I can only assume was once a closet, with barley enough room to do your business! Whom ever tiled the shower should go back to tile school! The mortared stone was rough with sharp edges. Because the toilet and shower need to have the wastewater pumped up to another waste line the use of a pump or macerator was employed. It was so loud it would wake the dead! ||Finally, one of the strangest check in and out procedures I have ever encountered was employed. We got there and found a note in the main house lobby that told us where the Abbott suite was. Upon checkout we just left the key. We never once saw the proprietor. I guess they were in witness protection? I have stayed at numerous B&B in Bar Harbor and each time I was greeted by the host and made to feel welcome, not here! In addition, I thought that one of the B’s in B&B stood for breakfast. Not if you stay in the Abbott Site. ||So, would I stay here again? Not in the Abbott Suite it was not worth the money. I cannot speak for the other rooms, which on the web at least, look genuinely nice. Additionally, I would recommend that the owner at least try and greet guests as they arrive and make it clear on the web, that staying in the Abbot Suite does not include breakfast. Oh, and the provided tea and coffee in the room should at least have artificial creamer, not everyone likes theirs black! This is not the only B&B in town so...
Read moreThe Inn was absolutely Beautiful. There are cathedral ceiling in the main part of the house. the room was large and had a fire place and a jacuzzi tub. You have to make sure you read the information being sent to you as you need to request firewood for the fire place and inform the owners what you plan on so they can provide the stuff to you. They do provide breakfast, but notify you when to order when you arrive. we had though we missed the opportunity to order breakfast as we arrived later in the night. The arrival process was simple as long as you read the direction and use some common sense to get to your room. You can get settled then fill out any forms the next morning for the covid guidelines. They had made sure Wood was supplied with a little extra for the time we would be there. As stated when we arrived we thought we missed the time to order breakfast. When I woke the next morning I had a waiting text message requesting what we would like for dinner. Excellent service!!!! We met the owners in the morning Joan and Dan and conversated for a while the gave us ideas of thing to do, since we came at the end of the season. we learned about their family which made the place feel more like home. The access to everything was amazing as well. The center of town which has everything a tourist town would have shops, shows, food, scenic views, all within a 10 min walk. Acadia national park was 15 mins away by driving. which also hold so much stuff to do you would literally need weeks to see it all. I think staying at this hotel, made our first visit to Bar Harbor a memorable one and also one will will repeat yearly. Thank you for making it wonderful, with the little...
