My wife and I flew in from DC to stay in Bar Harbor for a week and chose to stay here from the wonderful reviews we saw online.
Pros: We really enjoyed how close the Inn was to downtown Bar Harbor. We could essentially walk to anything in the area. I enjoyed the garden area as well. It was so beautiful! Front desk staff were so friendly and wonderful. The place always smelled fresh and was a lovely environment. A definite plus is that they set out snacks at about 1pm every day which was such a nice little treat when you were walking through during each day.
Cons: first I would say that the maid service was sub par. I did notice that if one maid was working then everything would be well handled and taken care of, otherwise something needs to change. We came in on a Sunday evening to a very clean room, we were good for Monday but then Tuesday we needed maid service. We put the sign on the door and while we were out hiking Acadia, the bed got made and towels restocked as well as trash being emptied. Wonderful, we thought. As we stayed through the week, we were accumulating a lot of garbage and recycling- to be expected. For the next three days we put our maid service sign out on the door and it did not get serviced even once. The third day I finally asked the front desk worker for fresh towels and trash bags so I could empty everything myself. She said she would notify maid services in the morning to clean our room. Under the sink was full of five trash bags! Nobody wants that on a vacation. Especially when you spend $2k for a weeks stay. Then on the fourth day we were out all morning and came back to the room in the late afternoon to find that a maid was emptying our trash and gave a stack of towels but nothing else was cleaned. He didn’t vacuum, wipe down tables/sink, etc. I should’ve walked down to the grocery store to get my own cleaning products had I known this. I didn’t say anything else because we were leaving the next day, but this is something that people should know prior to staying here to plan accordingly. Another con was the breakfast. First to note- if you want coffee that is actually hot, wait until 8am to get a cup because it is cold beforehand? I don’t know why breakfast started at 7am and the coffee would be out but 100% not even warm until 8am, but just to note. I was so disappointed because I am a breakfast lover and from past reviews we read that breakfast was amazing so I was very excited. Both my wife and I were pretty disappointed that they only offer two options for breakfast. One is an egg or vegan/veggie option and the other were pancakes/waffles/French toast. You really don’t get a full breakfast in our opinion. One day my wife got “home fries” that included 4 slices of a potato. And fruit that included one strawberry filleted. So if you are a very light eater for breakfast and okay with one option, you may enjoy it. Two of the breakfasts throughout the entire week were good. Otherwise it was just okay and left us hungry a few hours later. We ended up checking out other breakfast options in the area towards the end of the week.
Overall I would rate this place a 3/5. We would stay somewhere different if we were coming back to Bar Harbor as there were many many other...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed at the Inn at Mount Desert during our recent trip to Maine. We stayed in various Inns along the East coast and this was probably our least favorite, unfortunately. The Inn itself was great but the Innkeeper, Britny, is the reason for our 3-star review. More info below:
The good: The Inn is in a wonderful location and we enjoyed the ease of walking to local restaurants and shops. Furthermore, Acadia is a mere 5 minute drive away, which was our primary reason for our stop in Bar Harbor. The room was great and we really appreciated the heated bathroom after long days exploring and hiking in Acadia! The breakfast was good but the portion sizes are rather small. Great coffee and the daily muffins and cookies are a real treat. Most of the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.
The not-so-good: Unfortunately, our experience interacting with Britny left much to be desired. The two or three times we asked her a question, it was clear that she did not want to be bothered. I also heard her mutter something about a guest to another staff member (a guest had asked where to leave his key and after she replied to him, I heard her turn around and say, “where it says KEYS on the desk”). On another day a guest that was ahead of me in the breakfast line mentioned something about the air conditioning/heating unit in their room. He was very polite about it and Britny barely even acknowledged him. She continued to busy herself and didn’t even respond or look at him when he said, “I’m not complaining or anything, everything has been great, I just thought I would mention it.” I realize working in a customer-facing role can be challenging, but she was blatantly rude and passive aggressive towards guests for no apparent reason. It...
Read morePro: The location is the best thing about this place. You’re in walking distance to everything without being on Main Street in all the crowds. The beds were comfortable and that’s always huge for me The breakfast was ok. I liked the made to order breakfast but wish there was either more options or the continental part was better Laundry on site was a huge plus after hiking We loved having the pool table with n a rainy evening (note… food and drinks in the vending machine are all expired so I would stay away from that)
Cons House cleaning was terrible. They barely did more than leave towels. They didn’t make the beds, empty the trash, or clean up. It was quite disappointing when we’d be hiking all day and hoped to come back to a serviced room when we had left the hanger on the door requesting service The room smelled musty - everywhere else smelled great though There was a light on the balcony that stays on all night. I prefer a dark room and rooms are unable to turns theirs off. I asked the front desk if anything could be done as it was sleep disruptive and they wouldn’t turn it off or take the bulb out. On top of the light keeping us awake, we could hear EVERYTHING the people above us did. The floors show the age of the inn and honestly, we couldn’t wait to leave at the end of our stay because of it. Sounded like a heard of elephants every morning and late into the night Our AC wouldn’t cool past 74 during the day. It cooled off at night which was nice but still.
Overall, I think there are probably better places to stay for this price. We probably won’t be back and likely wouldn’t recommend this...
