After 3 weeks on the road, I rode my motorcycle into Bar Harbor wrapped in a thick, gloomy, chilly fog. I was exhausted, cold and seriously questioning WHY I was there. When I checked into my motel, the manager, Constance, asked how long I was staying, I gloomily replied “1 day! I’m leaving tomorrow.” I felt like I couldn’t leave fast enough to make a bee line for the toasty heat of my home state of Texas! However, the ray of sunshine that is Constance, cheerily announced that the sun was coming out on Saturday and I MUST stay to enjoy the glory of coastal Maine. Being from Bar Harbor herself and an avid hiker, Constance lured me with the inside scoop on the best hiking trails, best-kept-secret sunrise spot, and lobster recomms. She even loaned me a trails book and her own windbreaker! Both she and Liv were wonderful and so very welcoming, I felt like an instant friend. They made sure I was located on the first floor to be near my bike, too.
So I stayed longer and enjoyed every single moment - making my long-held dream of hiking coastal Maine a surreal reality. I so appreciate both the welcome and comfort of my stay at Anchorage Motel. My (newly updated) room was bright and airy, spotlessly clean, and the bed was oh-so-comfy - especially after a full day of hiking in Acadia NP.
When I go back to Bar Harbor, I’ll definitely stay at Anchorage, and feel like I’m welcomed...
Read moreMy husband and I are on a month long motorcycle trip and The Anchorage Motel was our stop while in Bar Harbor. The folks at the front desk, esp. Susie, were wonderful! They recommended a few places to grab a bite, do laundry... The motel is well within walking distance to the waterfront, yet still out of the main hustle and bustle of the 'downtown' area. We filled our bellies and walked around for a bit before heading back to the motel to sit outside for a bit soaking in the warm sun. The room was clean and cozy, with nice comfy beds. Shower has good pressure and gets nice and hot! Shampoo, lotion, face wipes and hair dryer are also available/included. The towels are nice and big (none of those postage stamp size, thin towels). The AC/heat worked perfectly. (We needed a little of both during our 2 night stay) There is a fridge in the room, although no coffee maker or microwave. However, there is coffee available at the front desk all day long! a plus. The only thing just a bit lacking is power outlets. While we were able to make do, a couple of additional outlets would have been One of our motorcycles broke down and Susie and the manager (I didn't get her name), were extremely accommodating to our situation. I truly thank them for understanding and for their assistance while we made lemonade...
Read moreSo this isn't a fancy hotel let's be clear. This is a great place to stay though. When we were looking for a place I had concerns at the time biased on reviews that said it was dated. When I called the man on the phone said it had been bought and renovation was underway. While it still has an old feel it certainly isn't uncomfortable. Fresh paint new tvs and the beds were more than comfortable after day of hiking. The proximity to main street in bar harbor makes life so.much easier if your staying on this side of the island. I have stayed on both and with kids I prefer this side. That said I would certainly stay here again if I wanted to be in Bar Harbor. The noise level seemed like it might be of concern because of the way the place is made but I didn't notice a thing that wasn't normal everywhere. Great staff. The tub drains were a lot...lot...slow and staff said it was getting repaired this winter so that will.make a difference in the amount of time it takes multiple people to shower! Parking was a bit dicey. It would have been better if some people didn't take two spots but over all we always found somewhere to park even if it wasn't in a designated spot. The lot is fairly small and the parking lines are tiny though. Over all....a perfect stay for what we needed! Thank you...
