When we arrived Morgan checked us in nicely and upgraded us to a larger room! (Wow, how convenient!). they were so lovely and friendly! But, even then, the motel has a handy text line that seems to always be manned. It was super reassuring to be able to ask questions at any time. I also really liked that they had coffee and tea available at the front desk. I didn't remember to get the name of the staff member in the evenings, but they were also wonderful and exceedingly helpful.
The hotel location is perfect for walking to nearby shops and restaurants. I was really impressed by the breakfast and selection. I wasn't really expecting anything at all - so the bar was low, but it was absolutely lovely. A quaint little room with COVID friendly foods (prepackaged) with both decaf and reg coffee along with a tea selection. Parking was packed, but we always snagged a spot (as the lot is big); they can always just have you park next to the pool if spots run out. Wifi was excellent... And no strange lag or anything whenever we uploaded our bajillion photos. (The scenery in Acadia and Bar Harbor is too tough to resist spending time behind the lens, between the time you spend gazing with wonder).
Acadia: It was about 15mins to the Cadillac Road entrance. Roughly 15 to the visitors center. And maybe 5 mins to park road. Acadia is an experience by itself, so I'll leave that separate.
We did not use the pool, but we did also use the microwave in the breakfast room (thanks!). The front desk just let us in easily so we could scarf down some leftovers and some warm goodies for lunch. Yay thrifty! And convenient. The ice maker was clean and had a handy ice scoop.
The room had two doubles (we were originally planned to be on a twin and a double). And the beds were comfy. We had 3 pillows per bed, so that was perfect to divide between us. The room had a window unit AC to set the temp conveniently. The mini fridge was a good size.
The bathroom was bigger than I expected with solid counter space - towels aplenty. I totally missed the nook above the toilet with additional towels. So I requested more unnecessarily - oops. As a detail: their COVID protocols had these handy door hangers to request additional things, like towels, and toiletries. Very easy and a great idea. Again, I thought we had only 2 towels so I actually went to he front desk to request more the first morning... And they were SO speedy to get us some. Maybe 5 mins. Thanks again friends! (I found the other 2 in the nook, so we ended up with 8 towels. Very sufficient). The shower was clean and they had bed bath and body works products for shampoo and conditioner and soap. Unfortunately their supply of lotion was out, but we had our own anyway so no complaints there. Standard tub and shower, but good floor space and plenty of tub edge space to put your own products. (We had 3 gals in a room so I anticipated a bit of a cluster - it...
Read moreWe needed one night in Bar Harbor on August 31, 2025 as we decided to drive directly there rather than spend the night in another town beforing arriving. I found Bar Harbor Villager had a vacancy and decided to book one of two available rooms due to positive reviews and the location on Main Street.
The reception desk staff were friendly and helpful in pointing out good dinner options and offering a map of town. Parking spaces are slightly tight in the lot but available.
We were lucky to get a first floor room and upon entry, found a nicely appointed, spacious, clean and comfortable room. The bed was very comfortable, providing great support for my achy back and the bathroom had been nicely upgraded. A small fridge in the room cabinetry was great for storing our drinks from the cooler. I never heard any noise during our stay, so if you are a light sleeper you should be fine.
Main Street is merely steps outside your door so unless you plan drive to Acadia or other towns for exploring or dining, you can park it and forget it. The Village Green is literally less than a block away and offers the free shuttle to Acadia and neighboring towns.
A free breakfast with offerings such as coffee, fresh fruit, breads, yogurt and eggs/breakfast meat is available with seating inside and out. Staff readily kept the food stocked for arriving guests to eat. There is also a pool on the property with lounge chairs for relaxing.
The morning of Labor Day, I got up and walked to the shore path near the Bar Harbor Inn to watch the sunrise. It was a nice group that arrived to watch as well and I did get some really nice pics. Staying at the Villager made it really easy to do.
I was amazed to find availability for Labor Day weekend as I'm sure it can be tough to get reservations there. It was a great stay with an immaculate, comfortable room, parking and superior walking location. I wouldn't hesitate to stay...
Read moreReader's Digest review: Do not hesitate to stay at this lovely motel! The high ratings it has are more than warranted. To tell you how much we liked it, we were literally making lists of family and friends who would love to visit Bar Harbor - and the motel each day! (It's THAT wonderful!) TL;DR review: The Bar Harbor Villager is quiet and impeccably clean with wonderful and efficient features and incredibly kind staff. Those things in and of themselves are more than enough to bring us back for a second visit. By far, however, the star of this motel is its location. If you've never been to Bar Harbor (we were first-time visitors), when you hear that parking is a challenge, believe it. Saying that parking in New York City is easier than in Bar Harbor on busy days is not in any way an exaggeration. Downtown and in Acadia, we saw folks driving around non-stop looking for parking spots. Staying at this hotel solves all of that - and makes your stay so EASY and RELAXING! We walked everywhere downtown - which was so much fun and so, so convenient. There are literally dozens of stores, restaurants, coffee shops, bars and more - plus all that there is to do near the shore - within a few-minute walk. And there is a free bus system that leaves from the cute park that is only half a block from the motel that will take you anywhere in Acadia or around the island. Take it! It's easy, and trust us that you don't want to try to find parking at the popular Acadia locations when it is busy! Thank you Bar Harbor Villager for such a...
