I would have given zero stars if that was an option. Very disappointing, especially for the price we paid. Would not recommend; would never stay here again.
My wife and I stayed at Little Fig in September. It was after Labor Day when the crowds had died down a bit.
Cleanliness - Zero Stars!! The room was dirty. Floors had trash, food, dirt, etc. on them. The furniture had layers of dust (bedframe, desk, bureau, table). Sink counter was dirty. We had to ask the guy at the front desk to contact housekeeping to clean the room; he was very curt but did send someone up to wipe down the desk and bureau and to vacuum the entire room. You could hear items being sucked up in the vacuum - it was disgusting. Needless to say, we were on edge the whole week with concerns about bugs or getting sick.
Amenities - Minimal. No safe or area to store valuables; no iron/ironing board. We stayed a week and had two guests but we were limited to only two towels for our entire stay. Minimal toiletries. They do have a fridge (which was dirty) and a microwave (which I have never seen in a hotel; we would never use that).
Accessibility - No elevator in a 3+ story building. You have to carry all luggage up all flights of stairs - this was a complete surprise to us. You either walk the sketchy wooden staircase outside or you have to use the staircase inside to get to your room. There was no mention of this in any of our communications and you don't know what floor you are going to be placed on until arrival. And they have limited rooms so you are stuck with whatever you get.
Parking - They do have a private lot but it fills quickly especially if you decide to go out for dinner. You are left with finding parking on the street or far from the hotel room. Parking is tight and fills up quickly. People were parking in spots that were clearly marked as "do not park here". I don't know if it was the staff consuming the spots or what. We did see one of the workers park in one of the non-parking spots which made it difficult to navigate around.
Staff - All of the staff seemed to be younger adults. They were not friendly or engaging and spent the majority of the time with their nose in their phones. If we had to share a concern or ask a question it was as if we were bothering them. They were less than helpful. This included the cleaning crew. A lot of times, there would be a sign at the desk stating they were not available vs. having a person there to assist.
Appearance - the carpet throughout had dirt and crumbs (very noticeable). I saw the front desk attendant vacuum the day we were checking out but outside of that, there was little maintenance of the property throughout. They had caution tape across doors in the back of the building; they left basement doors open where you could see old furniture or cots. It was concerning to see these items being stored in that way; not very sanitary.
Other - The kept all windows closed even though the weather was overly warm that week. It made it very hot moving around the property. They did offer snacks and beverages like water and coffee and juice but we did not utilize those offerings. The location in proximity to the main shops and restaurants wasn't bad. It's at the end of the road but we were still able to walk around town which was good.
Again - very disappointing. It wasn't cheap to stay at this hotel and the experience we had was awful. We will be staying somewhere else the next time we...
Read moreGloria and I have been coming to Bar Harbor over 12 years- this was our first time back since Covid. The new local owners have done a a total renovation- building, rooms, bathrooms, new furniture, art, and new branding! The new name Little Fig Hotel represents what a really sweet place the hotel has become. We love the complete redo- also there is a "grab and go" breakfast with muffins, yogurt, overnight oats, water, juice, and local coffees. If you have never been to Bar Harbor this is the perfect location. There is no place to park many days in Bar Harbor but you have free parking here and you can walk to everything!
It is the people who make Little Fig Hotel special. I got an early season call from Brandon, an old island friend we did not know was now booking supervisor, to confirm our reservation from the previous owners and he helped navigate a better room for us. When we got here we were travel weary from Georgia and Evander got us situated including finding hangers for us, opening windows and pulling down blinds we could not reach (we love sleeping with open windows in the summer in Maine). He even showed us how to operate our very new so very smart TV. Yikes!
We met the hotel/inn manager Skye the next morning who answered our questions about restaurants and activities. The ferry is running again to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and as she was leaving for a brief holiday herself to Yarmouth, she introduced us to Constance who caught us up on many island changes and was extremely helpful and gracious. Nyxie, the assistant evening hotel manager, also covered for Skye. Nyxie was competent and extremely kind. We found out she is also a massage therapist! When the bottled water delivery was delayed she assured us there would be water in the morning for our hike. She expressed her disappointment with the delay and told us she had gone next door and got water for herself and the cleaning staff. One last mention- everything is new- Rhona our maid service person was excellent- beautiful towels daily, bath products, and clean sheets midweek.
To say the least we loved our stay, hiked, picniced, celebrated Gloria's birthday and our ninth wedding anniversary- married on top of Cadillac Mountain. We made next years reservation this morning as we...
Read moreAlthough the Little Fig Hotel is good, I had slightly higher expectations based on the array of great reviews. The pros: such a great location! The snacks and bottled drinks available 24/7 in the lobby were much appreciated! They even had some gluten free grab and go options for breakfast which I greatly appreciated. Delicious brownies available in the lobby during the day. The parking was great. The rooms were cute and decorated well. Towels were clean. Beds were very comfortable. The staff was kind and accommodating. The hotel has definitely been renovated, but could use a little more renovation for the price you pay. Here are some cons: The doors to the hotel rooms seem flimsy and you can see the bright light of the hallway through the siding of the door and the peep hole all night. I felt a little uneasy that there is no front desk staff past 10pm because they do not lock the main door of the hotel during the night. If the room doors seemed more solid this wouldn’t make me quite as uncomfortable. Other hotels I’ve stayed at in Maine lock the doors at night if there are no staff there and have you use your key to get into the building. There was a bad smell coming from the drain of the bathroom sink, it appeared moldy inside and smelled like a cup that starts to fuzz over from sitting out for too long. There was green mold in the bathroom windows visible when you open them. I have severe allergies and I could feel them starting within minutes of getting into the room, but I am highly sensitive. There were 2 dark stains on the bed that were on the mattress cover below the sheets, but it showed right through the sheets. I’m not sure what it was, but who can be sure. I would say the pros did outshine the cons but I think I would spend a little more next time to stay somewhere else. This could have been bad luck with our room, and maybe the other rooms are better! This was room 208, a king room. Regardless, we had a good time, as a business owner I just want to leave an honest review so hopefully things can improve from...
