My family has been to Bar Harbor 3 times since the pandemic began. During our first 2 trips, we always commented on how amazing it must be to stay at the West Street Hotel. We loved the look of the hotel and the location. In summer 2021 we splurged for a room for 4 nights. We are first responders and they offered a discount for first responders which made the trip slightly more affordable. Their prices are extremely high. We booked a premium ocean view room, thinking we would get a great ocean view. Instead we got a tiny balcony with a rickety screen door leading to it. A large portion of our view was blocked by our neighbor’s balcony, which extended far beyond ours. Just below us was the lobster pound. It was not the peaceful retreat I envision when we booked. I asked the front desk staff if we were put in the correct room, as our view did not feel premium at all. Their response was that if we wanted a better view we should have asked for it. As first time guests, I’m not sure how we were supposed to know what to ask for. I thought we’d get what we paid for. Besides the disappointing view, housekeeping was very lacking. Common areas, specifically the hallway, elevator, and lobby fireplace areas were filthy and in desperate need of being vacuumed. I mentioned this and some tidying up was done, but it was disappointing to have to ask for the place to be kept clean. Additionally, our shower floor was dirty and had hair in it upon our arrival. The staff promptly sent someone to take care of it, but again I was left disappointed that cleanliness is not the standard at the hotel. We mentioned our concerns to an evening manager who inquired about our stay. We were promised a refund of one night resort fee (a small amount of money so not really anything to be impressed by them offering) but the credit was never given and upon checkout, the staff knew nothing of it as it was not indicated on our account by the manager who promised it. Other than the location, I was left very underwhelmed by our stay. On our first trip to Bar Harbor we stayed at the Hampton Inn and were far more impressed with that place than the West Street Hotel. We are frequently travelers and have stayed in many beautiful New England boutique properties. This one is at the bottom...
Read moreExcellent location and exceptional staff. We wanted to escape the heat in Charlotte NC. We thought of Maine then Bar Harbor was recommended by several people. We had never been to either place. I started doing research and found there were several special looking harbor/ocean view hotels. But it was only after I called the West Street Hotel and spoke at length to James on the front desk that I knew this was the place where we wanted to stay. James patiently and honestly answered all my questions regarding room views, amenities, pool, Acadia & downtown tours and scenic boat trips. After I booked, James emailed me lots of Bar Harbor information then spent more time helping me when I called regarding restaurant choices. James is the reason we stayed at this hotel. And we were not disappointed. All the front desk staff were delightful and helpful. I wish I could remember all their names, but Brittany seemed to always be there with her lovely smile. Our room on the 4th floor with ocean view was wonderful and a good size. The bed comfortable, the bathroom well appointed with an affective and good sized shower. Plenty of drawers and a full length good sized closet. Plus table and comfortable chairs should you not wish to sit on the balcony. We had breakfast on the balcony watching the world go by every morning. And relaxed on the balcony before going out to dinner. The view never got old: the ocean, the harbor, the fishing boats, the canoeists, the whale watching and nature tour boats coming and going. We could also see the sandbar that was exposed at low tide allowing people to walk across to Bar Island. The rooftop pool is private and for adults only. Needless to say the view is spectacular. You can order your breakfast the night before to be delivered to your room from Paddy’s Irish Pub below the hotel. The hotel shares amenities with the Harborside Inn and other restaurants. When you step out of the hotel you are on West Street. Turn right, go 300 ft or so, then turn right onto Main. The hotel checks everything: location, service,...

I visited the Hotel Columbus Day weekend and really enjoyed the stay. The place is clean, the staff are friendly, the rooms are well appointed and the location is great, right on the water.
The reason for the one star review is the management here is shady. I checked out, received a printed and email checkout sheet which I confirmed was accurate. Then a few days later, the Hotel charged my card again for $750. I reached out to the Hotel and was told nobody was available to help me at the moment, and was given a phone number and email for someone to assist. When I did reach someone, the person I spoke with, Deb Jordan, said that she couldn't help, but would pass it along to "accounting."
So instead of removing the incorrect charges, they just email me a new checkout sheet listing the incorrect charges. No phone call or email to follow up or explain why they are there. So I called and email again, explaining these charges are incorrect and asked for a follow up phone call from accounting confirming when they are removed.
No phone call, no email, but this time I receive another checkout sheet via email, this time showing a credit but shorting me over $100 on the credit back. I again called, this time the phone line is disconnected. Sent multiple emails, no response. And they never credited me back either amount to my credit card.
So I have to file a dispute with my credit card company to get this resolved now. It's too bad because I had planned on coming back here and would have definitely spent a lot more money at the Hotel. There is no need or excuse for stealing money from guests.
My recommendation, stay away, it's not worth the hassle and...
