Our experience here was absolutely horrible. Our two and a half year old (at the time) is admittedly a slow eater and we were just waiting for her to finish eating (trying to keep her focused on her meal). While she was finishing up, we didn’t realize it was coming up on closing time. If someone would have politely given us a heads up, we would have absolutely asked for some to-go containers and been on our way. Having been servers ourselves, we always try to be conscientious of that, but they close earlier than you would expect and we were completely unaware of that fact. Our daughter was still actively eating her pancakes when a worker came and snatched the half full plate right out from in front of her. I politely said, “Oh, excuse me! She was still working on that!” and the woman rolled her eyes and slammed the plate back down in front of her. About two minutes later the woman came back and aggressively grabbed the half full plate again and nastily said, “I have to take this, we need to run the dishwasher.” She was so quick to walk away we couldn’t even respond. It was only now that we realized they were closing, but there had never been an offer for a to-go box, or frankly even a chance for us to ask for one. Our server had been MIA from the time that we got our meals. It turned out to only be a few minutes after closing time that we were out the door, as we saw on our way out, so it’s not like we were there for an excessive amount of time. Most restaurants let people finish their meals within reason and just don't accept new customers at closing time. Regardless, this could have been done tactfully. I’ve never experienced such appallingly rude treatment at a restaurant before. Especially with the steep prices, the food we paid for should not have been snatched right out from in front of our child. I’d never go back. It was so bad that this story is often the first memory we have of our trip to Bar Harbor, or when someone brings up a horrendous customer...
Read moreWalked up around 10am on a Thursday morning and got seated immediately as a party for 2. The place was packed with tourists and very noisy. We got a table directly next to the hostess stand, which was very unpleasant because the hostess was having to scream to speak to the incoming customers due to the high noise level in the diner. My husband and I couldn’t really hold any sort of conversation. In addition to the noise level, I was sitting in direct line of the AC unit which was on full blast despite it only being 65 degrees outside, so that was very uncomfortable. I got the blueberry pancakes after reading reviews about them, but I have to say these were so incredibly disappointing, it made me a little upset. On their menu they put a customer’s quote about them being the best blueberry pancakes ever, but I can only imagine that person has never eaten any others to compare them to. They looked beautiful, but had little to no flavor at all. If I closed my eyes and took I bite I wouldn’t be able to tell you it was blueberry. They were also on the dry side and had no sweetness to them. Also got a side of ham which very thick and juicy and had good flavor. The service wasn’t good. He took our order, a different food runner brought our food, and the waiter never checked up to see how everything was. We never saw him again until he did a drive by and dropped the bill off without us even asking for it. Prices higher than other diners we ate at. FYI they don’t take American Express. Moral of the story: if you are coming just for blueberry pancakes, try Jordan’s or...
Read moreThe food was good and the prices were fair. Our waitress and the hostess were extremely nice. I'm just left with an uncomfortable feeling after witnessing the way another waitress spoke to customers waiting at the front for a table. The restaurant itself is small, with very little room for those waiting for a table. It's the end of the season and quite cold this morning, so more people were trying to wait inside instead of out on the sidewalk. A pair of customers were looking at something on a cell phone. Granted, the menus carry a declaration that the restaurant is "cell phone free." However, these waiting customers wouldn't know that and were clearly just trying to pass the time while they waited for a table... where they would ultimately be paying for their food... which I would think should afford them a little respect or even just politeness from the wait staff. Instead: A waitress in quite a hurry with a pot of coffee in her hand was aiming to get behind the waiting customers to a table squeezed up front by the window. Without simply saying "excuse me" first, she huffed and loudly said "guys, can you go outside with your cell phones or at least be cognizant of what's going on?!" And shook her head at them. Plenty of the rest of us heard, the waiting customers must have been embarrassed, and it was just uncomfortable all the way around. I'm just not sure why this waitress thinks it's okay to speak to anyone, let alone paying customers this way. It was awkward enough that I wouldn't eat there again, even though it didn't...
