The staff is very friendly and will go above and beyond to ensure you are comfortable. We requested a waterfront view, and were not disappointed. The balcony is semi private with a barrier between you and your neighbors, but with tourists walking on the shore path below - but it's worth it to have stunning ocean views, the sounds of the waves and buoys and seagulls, and occasionally spotting sailboats passing by.
During COVID (May 2021) they had the best reduced breakfast I have seen yet. Most days we used the free continental breakfast instead of going out into town. Everything was individually packaged, but they provided fresh baked goods, not the store bought stuff you'd find at a gas station, like other hotels we've been to. The baked goods varied from day to day but included cinnamon rolls, banana bread, iced and filled pastries, and muffins. They also provided cheese, salami, and hard boiled eggs, as well as hot coffee and hot water and a variety of juice options. They also provided almond milk in addition to regular milk which you could use with coffee, cereal/oatmeal, or just drink from a glass. As a nice touch they provided actual metal silverware, wrapped in a napkin and placed on plated trays that were constantly replenished, in addition to packaged plasticware. The tables were cleaned after each guest. There are water bottle fill up stations at the water fountains in the breakfast area and, as I'm told, downstairs in the fitness room.
The room itself was large and comfortable with a provided safe, refrigerator, and coffee machine. The bed was firm but still comfortable enough even for someone who prefers very plush beds. The room was spotless and cleaned daily, with sheets changed every other day unless you left a card declining the service. The temperature control unit worked well and kept us comfortable, most days we didn't need it and just used the fan. The best thing about the room is how quiet it is. With the doors closed, you cannot hear your neighbors at all.
The bathroom was clean and felt like a luxury apartment. The shower/tub combo had adequate pressure and more than enough hot water. They provided shower gel in addition to bath and hand soap, which was nice. Plenty of towels and the cleaning staff always left everything folded up and pretty, from the washcloth in the hand towel like a pocket handkerchief to the always-refilled toilet paper roll folded over in a triangle.
The amenities included a heated infinity edge pool that was very comfortable to swim in and family friendly. The deep end is only about 5.5 feet with no diving board and the pool is not set up for swimming laps, but it is a fun family pool. There were two hot tub/jacuzzi pools on the side that I didn't try out but they looked fun too. There were robes in the closet, and there were an extra blanket and pillow in the dresser.
The location is excellent, very close to most restaurants and right on the shore path. You'll have to walk a little further for most shopping than something more in the middle of town, but you'd also sacrifice proximity to the beach.
As of late May 2021, face masks were optional for...
Read moreThe Bar Harbor Inn is a very, very special place. Against the stunning backdrop of Mount Desert Island and its breathtaking coastline, the Bar Harbor Inn delivers in every area. From the property and manicured grounds, to the service to the inspired and delicious food, this place is paradise. It is accesible to everything and anything in Bar Harbor and across Acadia and Mount Desert Island. For exploring Bar Harbor, it’s a short and wonderful walk anywhere in town. But as great a launchpad it is for outings and adventures, there are endless reasons to spend ample time on property experiencing everything that’s offered. This is.a place that cares about and sustains a focus on details and quality. In a world in which it’s common to experience cost-cotting and a lowering of the bar, it’s noteworthy that the experience at the Bar Harbor Inn improves year after year. What’s a welcome constant is the hospitality, expertly delivered by an incredible staff. Whether it’s the gentlemen who are dutifully stationed at the front door to open it for you or the front desk and housekeeping staff, everyone you encounter is guest-focused. The accomodations are beautiful, especially in the main building where everything is top-notch. And the little things lke the bath products remind you that you’re far away from the everyday. The main lobby is warm and inviting and offers a range of amenities from a concierege to classic boardgames, delicious afternoon cookies which understandably cause a line to form at 3 pm each afternoon, and a selection of coffee and water which is available and on demand 24 hours a day. All of the onsite food options offer delicious options in a memorable setting. Don’t sleep on—or through—the continentanl breakfast, as the selection is incredible and has something for everyone (it’s also an example of an aspect of the Bar Harbor Inn experience which seems to get better each year.) Often a conteintental breakfast suggests a skimpy offering with little to satisfy but here the only limitation is a full stomach after a delicious meal. The Contintental Breakfast also adds considerable value to what you pay for your room. Lunch on the patio at the Terrace Grill offers a breathtaking view and a diverse menu with a wide range of great optoons. And for a truly memorable meal, dinner at the Reading Room is bucket list worthy. Try to time it an hour or so before sunset and you’ll be treated to a wraparound view of the Maine coast which you will remember for a lifetime. And then there’s the food which is expertly prepared and immensely satisfying. Everything we ate left us wanting to experience it again. Impeccable and highly attentive service tops it all off. I’m already dreaming of a return to this slice of paradise and to experience a level of hospitality that is truly rare but so very much...
Read more4.75/5. This place is near perfection. We traveled from southern Pennsylvania and wanted somewhere nice to stay. This place has the nice covered. The employees are all courteous, professional and wlecoming. The concierge was helpful when it came to info about Acadia as well. The gift shop was a bit pricey and limited in their offerings but there is a Walgreens down in town to help out with the extras.
We stayed oceanfront in room 325. The view is outstanding however, I'd suggest staying on the top floor. I think we were underneath the maid chambers or the upstairs neighbor had a horse staying with them. The rooms are very clean but a bit outdated. The bathroom seemed fairly new though. The HVAC which we didn't really need all that much was 100% touchscreen and not very responsive. Maybe some calibration needed. The beds were comfy, the room also had extra seating and a little table and the mini-fridge was in working order. Can't speak to the TV, we didn't turn it on once but it looked fine.
Our neighbors were a bit of a problem as they were smoking cigarettes on their deck the first two days of our trip which was the last two days of their trip. Since the partition between the rooms is not floor to ceiling, the smoke would come into our room and invade our peaceful time on the deck. I contacted the front desk about this and they said they'd be by to check it out but I'm not sure if that ever occurred or the visitors really just didn't care all that much.
The room overlooked the Shore Path which was nice. Got to see folks wandering around throughout the day with their dogs and what not just enjoying the views. The sunrise from this room in June is amazing. Granted it is a bit earlier than other areas, at around 445 but that was not a big deal. Amazing!
We did utilize the laundry service a few days and they were very quick and it was definitely well worth it.
Breakfast was nice. They had a lot to offer from cereals, bagels, danish, yogurt, hummus, fresh fruit, toast, gluten free options, and may other things. You are able to eat there or take it back to your room which is nice.
The pool area looked really nice but was overrun by children as expected. I wonder if there is an adults only time or if they would consider expanding some area to be adults only.
The location to everything downtown is perfect. We were minutes from everything and you don't mind the extra walk to enjoy a bit of "seclusion".
Overall, the Inn and Spa was worth it for me. I'd definitely come back knowing what I know now and maybe stay in one of the townhouse type rooms or go to the second floor of the...
