My husband and I visited Bar Harbor for our "mini-moon" the week after our wedding in July 2015 and stayed at the Acacia House. It was wonderful! It is run by Anna and Ralph, a married couple, who were very nice and welcoming. My husband had called ahead of time to request one of their packages - that chocolates and champagne be in our room when we arrived. When we checked in, Anna let us know that the chocolates and champagne were in the room. She gave us maps of the area and showed us around the B&B. We stayed in Room #1 - the only room on the first floor. The room was great, but the bathroom was just incredible. Big bathroom with a glass shower with multiple shower heads/jets and a jacuzzi. The food at Acacia House is to-die-for! There is always coffee and tea set out. In the afternoons there is food set out - I think when we were there it was freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Breakfast was so delicious. It starts out with a warm gooey homemade pastry. There is fresh fruit and toast with homemade jam, and then you get a menu and get to choose from several options for what you want your main course to be. One morning we had omelettes and the other we had french toast stuffed with blueberries and lemon custard - it was all out of this world! The B&B is located on a nice, quiet street, but it is so close to everything you want to be close to in Bar Harbor - it's a 5 minute walk to the cute shops and waterfront. We also took Anna and Ralph's suggestion for a good lobster pound to visit, and we ended up having a fantastic lunch on the other side of Mount Desert Island (remember if you travel out of the immediate Bar Harbor, cell phone service is spotty on the rest of MDI). In general, Anna and Ralph were just really accommodating. My husband and I ran into an issue one morning with our rental car - we got back to the B&B in the early afternoon after having not the best morning. Anna gave us a great recommendation on a place to get good lobster rolls to go and even set a table for us in the dining room to have lunch. Staying at the Acacia House was a great experience! We hope to get back...
Read moreThe innkeepers are nice, sure. However, disappointed that they’re still using Covid as an excuse for not providing daily housekeeping. “To minimize contact between guests, we are not offering daily housekeeping. We will gladly provide you with fresh towels and trash removal when you need them.” Checked the Maine CDC & there are no current restrictions. Masking is optional and encouraged. No one was masked. I saw one person working in a bookstore that was masked. It feels really odd to bring down my dirty towels and trash, as if I was at home. At least state to set outside your door of a morning or night for trash pickup and clean towel exchange. Only one bathroom sized trash can was in our room. I observed no other Covid practices such as masks, social distancing, etc. This inn has no common area to come down and read, etc. when you can’t sleep or are an early riser. I did see a small loveseat that was occupied in an extremely small nook. There were plenty of tables/chairs for dining (not spaced far apart). If you want meat included in your breakfast, you won’t get it here on their ‘full’ menu. Bacon is listed on their website but was not on their menu. We ate breakfast down at Jordan’s (5 mornings) for the remainder of our stay. The king bed needs to be replaced. When 2 are occupying it, you roll to the middle. My fourth time in Maine and always stayed at inns. This was the first time I wasn’t pleased with my stay. It wasn’t a very good first experience for my husband staying...
Read moreWe stayed at this Bed and Breakfast July 21st to July 24th. The Acacia House is the perfect place to enjoy all that Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park have to offer, with extremely close proximity to the shops, restaurants, the sandbar, activities, and more- everything is literally around the corner from the front steps! As well as a six minute drive to Acadia National Park. Ralph and Anna, the owners of this perfect bed and breakfast, were welcoming, sincere, and accommodating hosts. The breakfast is absolutely delicious, with several options that depend on season and are locally sourced- as well as a daily special- we loved the omelets, fresh baked bread, and pancakes, along with a coffee/tea bar and breakfast treat like croissants, scones, or muffin to start. Late afternoons included lemonade and freshly made cookies- different every day. Such a sought out treat before hitting the shower after our hikes and adventures in Acadia National Park. We stayed in Room 3, and it was perfection- comfortable bed, a large bathroom, wonderful water pressure, and a great deck that was excellent to relax on with a cup of coffee. They also had excellent books with hiking trails that came in very handy. My boyfriend and I often joke about wondering what the special for breakfast is, or what sweet treat Ralph and Anna are putting out today in the afternoon while being back home! We will definitely be back. 10/10 across the board- this bed and breakfast will not...
