This was a terrible hotel to stay in. I would highly recommend staying at any other one that is within walking distance. The rest of our family were scattered at the other hotels nearby and the Holiday Inn and Fairfield were great. Traveled with my disabled parents and the disabled room given to them had a tub with a handle bar at the shower head. There were no bars for the toilet. Thankfully did not have any issues with them slipping and falling. Our room, which was across the hall, smelled like mold (theirs did as well), the shower and room were dirty dirty. The curtains had moth holes in it. The refrigerator was broken (didn't need it thankfully). The shower light was not working well and the fan's bearing was going making it very loud. The AC was not working properly, so we left the back porch open to keep it cool. The back door lock did not work so there was a shower curtain pole to "lock" it. There is a "starbucks" in the hotel, you are better off driving the 2 minutes down the street to go to a real one. The only good thing about the room I can say was the mattress was good and there were no bed bugs, yes I ripped the sheets off to check. We brought the issues with our rooms up to the woman at the front desk, who was very apologetic and nice about it all. She went to go get her manager to assist us with some compensation, which we thanked her for. Her manager came out and dismissed us, just printing our receipt and did not care at all. We will never stay at a Marriott again.

I am a titanium elite member and stay at marriotts all the time. This was one of the weirdest check ins ever. No acknowledgement of my status. When asked about breakfast, was hourly told- no, no free breakfast for you. I am always given a free breakfast or at least a voucher. Had to ask for bottle of water that they had benign their backs. There were three ladies at the front check in and all were just seemed to interested to talk to each other, rather than helping me with my check in and explaining everything at this hotel. Great location, overall I see that hotel did some remodeling. However, water does not drain properly in bath tub. Moldy shirt curtains, bugs hiding in the hole behind the toilet. Bed are comfy, but there are many areas that need to be cleaned. Carpets had crumbs from previous customers. Please pay closer attentions to cleaning. Shower curtains are very inexpensive. And work on improving customer service skills. Very bitter experience when spline bluntly tells- no free breakfast for you. Seriously? There are many nicer ways to explain in and I know you can give breakfast vouchers to your guests with no issues. I won’t be staying here again. Many other hotels in the area.

Here’s the updated version incorporating your additional points:

Deeply Disappointing Experience at Courtyard Marriott Fairlawn I recently stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Fairlawn (100 Springside Drive, Akron, OH) from December 2-6, 2024, in room 202 while on business travel. Unfortunately, this property fell woefully short of Marriott’s standards, leaving me frustrated and questioning its operational integrity.

What Went Well: The check-in process was smooth, and the bartender/manager was friendly and accommodating. Regrettably, those are the only positives I can highlight in an otherwise disappointing stay.

Major Problems: Neglected Exterior and Common Areas: • The parking lot and sidewalks were dangerously ignored during snowy weather, creating unsafe conditions for guests. • The lobby was so cold it was practically unusable, forcing staff to retreat from view and leaving the space unwelcoming. Severely Lacking Room Maintenance: • The smoke detector was hanging by exposed electrical wires—a glaring safety hazard and likely a code violation. • The television could not be turned off without unplugging it. • The electrical access panel door had completely fallen off. • Rust spots covered multiple areas in the bathroom. • Lightbulbs were burned out, leaving parts of the room poorly lit and uncomfortable. Shocking Housekeeping Practices: • At check-in, I was assured that housekeeping would refresh rooms every other day, consistent with information in the app. However, after two days, my room had not been serviced. • I called the front desk to report the issue and was assured my room would be serviced first thing the next morning. When I returned later that day, the job had been haphazardly completed: some trash cans were emptied, but others were not; dirty towels remained untouched; and the bed was left unmade. • Worse still, the used towels and hand towels I had placed under the sink to be replaced—after using them to clean up spilled lemonade the previous night—were simply placed back on the rack. The yellow stains from the lemonade were still visible, proving they had not been cleaned or replaced. Sanitation Concerns: This careless act raises serious concerns about overall sanitation and hygiene at this property. If stained, used towels are simply rehung for reuse, I can only imagine the state of the bedding. Were the linens even changed between guests? I no longer have confidence they were. Unresponsive Customer Service: • When I called the front desk to escalate my concerns and requested to speak with a manager, I was told none were available, leaving me feeling ignored and undervalued.

Final Thoughts: This property is a disgrace to the Marriott brand. The lack of care in maintenance, housekeeping, and guest service is not only disappointing but deeply concerning. As a Titanium Bonvoy member, I expect a higher level of quality, and this experience has left me questioning Marriott’s commitment to its standards.

I will be reporting this stay to my corporate travel office and recommending the removal of this property from our preferred list. Additionally, I will never return to this location and strongly urge Marriott to review the management and operational practices of this property to prevent other guests from enduring a...

Reservation made months in advance and I also reserved the meeting room for our reunion.

  1. Upon check-in the room they gave us was next to the washer/dryer which was not acceptable to me. Even upon expressing concern, the manager and trainee assured me they were very seldom used and therefore would not be a problem. We were woken up twice with the sound of the filling washing machine.
  2. Upon check-in, the room smelled horrible, like stale glue, and I woke up in the middle of the night unable to breathe. Opened Door to let in fresh air. Asked the clerk if they could open the window which maintenance did. Didn't offer to move us to another room. I left the window open day and night for 3 days with your air conditioner running to air out the room.
  3. I asked the mgr & trainee for three rooms together since this was a family reunion. Said it was impossible to do that since the next 2 parties wouldn't be checking in until the next day.
  4. Mold in shower. Even after maid service cleaning! Gross!
  5. And, the largest issue my husband and I had upon check in around 3:30-4pm. My husband has peripheral neuropathy and cannot walk or stand for long periods of time. After traveling all day, he was in pain. We SPECIFICALLY asked manager, trainee and another staff member (3 STAFF PEOPLE) for the nearest restaurant for dinner. They directed us off site so we ate at another hotel chain. When we got back to the room and started looking through the brochures, we found out there is an onsite Bistro in the lobby that opened at 5 pm. WHAT?!! My husband was livid, to say the least. The next morning I reported their action to the Bistro - they were not happy your staff would not inform people they existed! The manager did apologize but too little, too late...

I left a message with two sales managers at area hotels in person. When I went to the Courtyard Cindy their sales manager was in and took time to sit with me. I was needing to arrange rooms for guest for my daughters wedding. We expected to need 20-30 rooms as the grooms family was all from out of town. Cindy took all the time I needed to review what they could offer and explained that with their busiest time being during the week with business professionals they would have no trouble blocking rooms for us. Our guest had no trouble booking rooms and late adjustments were easily accomodated.

I would highly recommend them for wedding parties as on weekend their lounge is not heavily used as Cindy had expected. Friday after the rehearsal dinner was over we came back to grooms family around 15 playing Apples to Apples in lounge and having great time visiting having not been all together in months.

This property is very well maintained as you would expect from courtyard. Everything is updated and staff was very aware of why we there and seemed to have a celebratory attitude with us for the occassion.

Between us parents and the bride and groom we occupied all the suites. On Saturday as my daughters bridesmaid suite be came her and her new husbands suite Cindy and staff decorated it with silk rose petals in her colors had champaigne and chocolate covered strawberries for them. In bedroom more pedals and 3 tier light candles with Ivy arround stands.

The business level at this property makes it an ideal location for weekend groups as their highest occupancy is during the week. We ended up with 20 or more of us in the lounge lobby between events and Sunday morning to relax and...
