Deeply Disappointing Experience at Courtyard Marriott Fairlawn I recently stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Fairlawn (100 Springside Drive, Akron, OH) from December 2-6, 2024, in room 202 while on business travel. Unfortunately, this property fell woefully short of Marriott’s standards, leaving me frustrated and questioning its operational integrity.
What Went Well: The check-in process was smooth, and the bartender/manager was friendly and accommodating. Regrettably, those are the only positives I can highlight in an otherwise disappointing stay.
Major Problems: Neglected Exterior and Common Areas: • The parking lot and sidewalks were dangerously ignored during snowy weather, creating unsafe conditions for guests. • The lobby was so cold it was practically unusable, forcing staff to retreat from view and leaving the space unwelcoming. Severely Lacking Room Maintenance: • The smoke detector was hanging by exposed electrical wires—a glaring safety hazard and likely a code violation. • The television could not be turned off without unplugging it. • The electrical access panel door had completely fallen off. • Rust spots covered multiple areas in the bathroom. • Lightbulbs were burned out, leaving parts of the room poorly lit and uncomfortable. Shocking Housekeeping Practices: • At check-in, I was assured that housekeeping would refresh rooms every other day, consistent with information in the app. However, after two days, my room had not been serviced. • I called the front desk to report the issue and was assured my room would be serviced first thing the next morning. When I returned later that day, the job had been haphazardly completed: some trash cans were emptied, but others were not; dirty towels remained untouched; and the bed was left unmade. • Worse still, the used towels and hand towels I had placed under the sink to be replaced—after using them to clean up spilled lemonade the previous night—were simply placed back on the rack. The yellow stains from the lemonade were still visible, proving they had not been cleaned or replaced. Sanitation Concerns: This careless act raises serious concerns about overall sanitation and hygiene at this property. If stained, used towels are simply rehung for reuse, I can only imagine the state of the bedding. Were the linens even changed between guests? I no longer have confidence they were. Unresponsive Customer Service: • When I called the front desk to escalate my concerns and requested to speak with a manager, I was told none were available, leaving me feeling ignored and undervalued.
Final Thoughts: This property is a disgrace to the Marriott brand. The lack of care in maintenance, housekeeping, and guest service is not only disappointing but deeply concerning. As a Titanium Bonvoy member, I expect a higher level of quality, and this experience has left me questioning Marriott’s commitment to its standards.
I will be reporting this stay to my corporate travel office and recommending the removal of this property from our preferred list. Additionally, I will never return to this location and strongly urge Marriott to review the management and operational practices of this property to prevent other guests from enduring a...

I left a message with two sales managers at area hotels in person. When I went to the Courtyard Cindy their sales manager was in and took time to sit with me. I was needing to arrange rooms for guest for my daughters wedding. We expected to need 20-30 rooms as the grooms family was all from out of town. Cindy took all the time I needed to review what they could offer and explained that with their busiest time being during the week with business professionals they would have no trouble blocking rooms for us. Our guest had no trouble booking rooms and late adjustments were easily accomodated.
I would highly recommend them for wedding parties as on weekend their lounge is not heavily used as Cindy had expected. Friday after the rehearsal dinner was over we came back to grooms family around 15 playing Apples to Apples in lounge and having great time visiting having not been all together in months.
This property is very well maintained as you would expect from courtyard. Everything is updated and staff was very aware of why we there and seemed to have a celebratory attitude with us for the occassion.
Between us parents and the bride and groom we occupied all the suites. On Saturday as my daughters bridesmaid suite be came her and her new husbands suite Cindy and staff decorated it with silk rose petals in her colors had champaigne and chocolate covered strawberries for them. In bedroom more pedals and 3 tier light candles with Ivy arround stands.
The business level at this property makes it an ideal location for weekend groups as their highest occupancy is during the week. We ended up with 20 or more of us in the lounge lobby between events and Sunday morning to relax and...
