This was the WORST dining experience of my life – PERIOD! If God himself asked me to dinner there – I’d decline. This was from a while ago - and guess what - I've not been back but certainly haven't forgotten (my attorney's wife will never let me).
Thursday Night. I had eaten at their La Jolla (CA) location on Monday of the same week. AKRON: 5 in the party – Wife, attorney and his wife, sister in-law. Order two bottles of decent wine ($60+ ea). Requested something we had in California (off menu) – and wound up with the manager explaining they don’t do that. Unfortunately – he happened to know my sister in-law (or WANTED TOO) and started talking with her… Wine came out and he grabbed it, opened it and poured her the first glass… I ordered it, I’m paying – strange, hitting on a woman 10 years your younger while wearing a wedding ring - classy… He then filled her glass to the brim and managed only 1 more pour from that bottle and had to grab the second bottle. He left finally. Out comes the food… I ordered my steak PITTSBURGH style with Béarnaise on the side. Out comes a DIFFERENT steak with Blue Cheese melted, and somehow, they took Pittsburgh for Blacken Blue (a “signature” dish they had) … I did not cut it - it was a porterhouse, I ordered a ribeye… Attorneys wife – ordered Beef Wellington Medium – but it had bled so badly the pasty was pink and soggy – so she cut it and the waiter immediately grabbed it… Literally uncooked. Both went back. When the food came back out (separately), I had the same steak (they scrapped and wiped the cheese away and broiled it). As soon as I saw it – I sternly requested Mr. chatty mgr.… As he came over – I explained to him a ribeye Pittsburgh style is NOT what I had on round 1 nor 2. Then her beef wellington came back out – Pink puff pastry does not look appealing with char marks on the edges – cut into it – not so good. He summoned up a server to grab them, and explained to MY SISTER IN-LAW he would be right back. By the time of his return – the sides were cold and the rest of the party had finished – as we were literally 55 minutes in. He dropped my steak (next to the original Béarnaise) – I cut it – MEDIUM… I’d had it. I asked him to accompany the chef out so I could explain what Pittsburgh style was. He literally declined – then my attorney’s wife requested he wrap up her meal to-go before she even bothered to cut into it. The left it on the table when we left. Mine sat untouched. He did manage to comp a Togo desert to my SISTER IN LAW, I just wanted to pay an leave. I FedEx’d a letter to corporate with receipts from La Jolla, Akron, and Del Friscos in Ft Worth from the last two weeks (hand written and delivered speaks volumes). They ever so cordially sent me a $75 gift card. For my troubles with the $440 bill before tip for which neither myself nor my attorney’s wife...
Read moreHad a reservation for noon on Father’s Day and the entire experience was disappointing to say the least. It was certainly unexpected since we were here last year for Father’s Day and for Valentine’s Day and those experiences were positive.
We frequently dine at fine restaurants all over the world and there are just certain expectations that were not met. Though we had a reservation and patiently waited to be taken to their table, someone came in after us that they thought should be seated ahead of us for some reason.
The service at the table at the outset was slow which was puzzling because we were one of three tables with guests in the entire restaurant. It was as if they weren’t ready for the noon opening and left us for quite a while before even offering water.
We were a party of 7 including a small child and he was provided a normal menu. I had to request that he be given the kids menu because I knew one existed.
When I ordered my steak I requested medium well and stressed I didn’t want it under or overcooked but the correct temperature-which for a steakhouse shouldn’t have been difficult.
Both my son’s filet mignon and mine came out well done and mine was even visibly charred. My son kept his but I shared with the manager when she checked on the table that mine was overcooked. They then rushed out a new steak that was completely undercooked. They then apologized and said they would try a third time and take it off the bill.
The whole experience was frustrating because in a fine dining establishment, servers and managers are usually good at catching something if the kitchen doesn’t to avoid the guest frustration. But it was like they were doing Hail Marys to see if I’d just take it.
We had to beg and prod for the table to be cleared and empty dishes to be removed. It was several reminders of drink refills and requests to remove items to prepare for dessert.
The final straw was the coffee was served with a creamer that was spoiled and the manager was defensive instead of apologetic insisting the expiration date had not been passed. She acknowledged she hadn’t tasted it though and apparently relied on that information even though as a guest two people at the table that had drank it found it to be sour. Drinks can and do spoil before the expiration especially if not properly stored. Why not focus on guest satisfaction instead of trying to be right?
For a special occasion or any occasion, when you’re at an establishment paying $100/person you just expect better service and a better experience. Sadly, today we...
Read moreMy recent birthday celebration at Fleming's Steakhouse was a blend of highs and lows.
The restaurant's atmosphere is inviting and sophisticated. The exposed kitchen added a nice touch to the ambiance, enhancing the overall dining experience. The menu offers a good selection of prime cuts of steak and seafood dishes, catering to diverse tastes.
Initially, the service was warm and welcoming. Our server was patient and friendly, promptly taking our orders and delivering cocktails and soups without delay. The cocktails were particularly enjoyable, as they were not overly sweet. However, as the evening progressed, the service quality declined noticeably. After the initial interaction, our server became less attentive, resulting in a lack of check-ins. This lapse in service was particularly evident when my husband's medium-rare steak arrived overcooked, to medium-well. Due to the server's absence, we chose not to wait and informed her only upon her return, halfway through our dinner. The floor manager did offer to recook the steak, which my husband politely declined since, at that point, it seemed impractical. Consequently, the manager offered a complimentary dessert, which was appreciated.
Despite this gesture, the overall service fell short of the standards expected from a high-end establishment, especially given the premium pricing. The inconsistent attention, coupled with moments of perceived rudeness, such as overlooking a simple water refill request, left us feeling undervalued.
In comparison to other upscale steakhouses we have visited, Fleming's did not provide the level of attentive service we expected. For a restaurant that prides itself on providing an exceptional dining experience, the staff's handling of our meal and overall interaction was disappointing.
In conclusion, while the food at Fleming's has potential—my steak was well-prepared, and the presentation, especially the sear, was impressive—the service did not meet expectations for a special occasion or justify the premium pricing. For an upscale dining experience, particularly when celebrating significant events, the inattentive service and mishandling of key moments detracted from what should have been a memorable evening.
Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not recommend Fleming's for special occasions. However, it may be suitable for more casual dining where service...
