Read moreI really hate to give this poor review, as we give our business to this place every single time we visit Big Bear year after year despite all the other great options in The Village. But I will not be returning again. There's no denying the food is absolutely fantastic here, which is why we have looked past the mediocre service time after time. My most recent visit was the worst. As usual, even if there are hardly any customers it takes a very long time for someone to come to the table and acknowledge your presence. The wait staff just kind of meander over slowly, and always act as if the customers are inconveniencing them. By the time we were ready to place our orders, my mother was already unimpressed. I asked for the chicken masala thali and without saying a word, the waiter pulls his phone out of his pocket and stares at it for a few seconds. Sort of stunned by this, I wait for anything to happen to break the awkward silence when he finally says, "it's too late, we aren't serving that anymore." I indicated that I saw no where on the menu that this item is a lunch special or that there were any kind of time restraints, to which he points to the menu where I was reading from and says "this is what we have available". Reiterating, I also point to the meal which I had asked for just moments before, and he obliged. That was definitely the most irritating part of our experience, but it was accompanied by not having empty dishes cleared from the table the entire meal, having to ask multiple times for water, and hearing the staff laughing with each other in the back when we were clearly in need of assistance. I could have written a review similar to this one so many times, and I chose to keep it to myself since we enjoy the food. But after all these years, I am simply fed up. I will never be coming...

We sat straight down at a free table, but we didn't get any service, not even menu's for 15 minutes, and only then after asking twice. It then took another 15 minutes for someone to come and take an order, even for drinks, again, we had to flag someone down to get their attention. We ordered drinks, popadoms, starters (onion bhaji and samosas) and mains (lamb mekhani, chicken Tikka massala, rice, and nann & paratha). The popadoms never arrived and the starters came out after 15 minutes, and were actually very nice (see pic). We chased for the popadoms again, but still didn't arrive. It was then another 45 minutes before our mains arrived. When they did, it was over the course of 10 minutes, first the chicken and lamb dishes, which tasted OK, but the sauce tasted pretty much the same on both dishes, then rice, and finally nann and paratha - the nann was like a pizza base, not very light and fluffy, and the paratha was very dry, like they'd forgotten to add any ghee (butter/oil). By the time it all arrived, we'd already eaten most of the main dishes. In total, it was about 2hrs from start to finish. Luckily we did manage to get the missing popadoms removed from the bill. We weren't the only ones to experience incredibly slow service. The table next to us were already seated and ordering when we sat down, but our meal came out before theirs. Another family of 6 had to complain about waiting for 30 minutes without service. In summary, the food is OK, but the service...
