I had stayed here a few times previously, typically in early November, and not dealt with any memorable/significant issues. Yes the carpet and amenities have not changed since Nixon was in office, but was good enough for the lower price compared to adjacent properties. Decided on an extended stay, of 1-week. Got put in the room closest to the Lobby/stairs. Didn't sleep first night, a Saturday, due to constant stair use (pretty sure there is no elevator) immediately adjacent one of the walls. Ceiling is paper thin, and although they were not being belligerent or partying could hear constant walking and talking from the room above. If you want hot water you'd better get up extremely early or really late, otherwise you'll get lukewarm; just enough so your teeth don't chatter. Was intending to request, but ended up being moved to an upstairs room because the key function on the door gave out. Fortunately, a helpful front desk person was able to get me in and get my things out. The following day I noticed, what I initially though may have been some type of acne developing, but instead it developed into a couple red welt with hard-ish skin underneath. It remained that way for a full two weeks and I can pretty confidently link it to some filth-based insect from room 106 since outside was winter conditions and there were no mosquitos or other insects about. The room I moved to on the second floor was a little more comfortable and other than red blotches and my face and lukewarm water the stay was without incident until checkout, when the prearranged rates were not what I was actually charged; surprise (!) it was more. There was some finagling by the front desk to give me the last night free to compensate, but it still ended up being more than I should have been charged per the previous verbal agreement, but at that point, I as happy to be leaving. Fast forward two weeks and I get fraudulent credit card charges in similar amounts to what I had paid for the 1-week stay. They were not charges for this hotel, but I have never had issue with this card before and use it regularly. It's anecdotal, but I would put the odds at better than 50/50 that the fraudulent charges are connected to this hotel. Despite what were primarily positive interactions with all of the staff, this place is going downhill fast and I would VERY HIGHLY recommend if you can at all afford it to pay the extra $20-$30 per night to stay at one of the newer, cleaner, safer, pest-free hotels in BR. The lower cost per night is tempting, but there is a greater price to pay overall. The management here needs to take action FAST, but I suspect they are going to ride out the monetarily successful business plan until the place collapses in upon itself or is condemned. I will again throw out some odds and say the likelihood of one of these two things happening within the next 5 years is better than 50/50. P.S. They are 100% smoke-free, but before this policy people were smoking it up in every room of the hotel for decades and the stench still lingers like the...
Read moreYes the rooms are small, the cleanliness much to improve on, the pool not heated, all that I could live with for a budget over night stay. However, we left our room locked and secured but returned to find our door open. We checked in accompanied by several family members who were visiting from out of town. We had an ill family member in Reed City and family that some we have not seen in 5-10 years. We told the front desk they were just helping us get in room and we were going to dinner. The 3 little children swam in the pool for maybe an hour. We all left to go to dinner and the man at the front desk followed us right out the back door. I said that is strange he is only one here and he is outside. I do believe he was convinced we all planned to stay in that tiny two bed room. After dinner we returned to Reed City and stayed til almost 10pm. Reported to the front desk that our door was open. Same man at front desk told us impossible. I was very upset and my granddaughter/grandson were scared to death. Could not convince them no one would come in our room. To make matters worse my grandson was a witness/victim of a horrific crime in December and watched his mom be hurt/killed by an intruder. He insisted that something really bad was going to happen. It was an awful situation. All of our privacy was violated. Nothing was stolen which is way we are convinced the front desk man who I suspect is also owner did this. I would never ever stay here. I would not trust his judgement on if appropriate to enter guests rooms to snoop. Can not begin to say how angry I am. Maybe where he comes from that is ok but in this country it...
Read moreWe (a family of 5) had a very pleasant stay at his hotel in the winter of 2022. For us it was a long weekend get-away with intention to explore the area, do some nature walking and fishing. For that purpose this hotel was a perfect choice. It is conveniently located near shopping and restaurants. Room was clean and spacious enough for 2 adults and 3 kids (2 queen beds). Hotel also has an indoor pool but unfortunately we didn't plan for that and didn't bring the swimsuits, so we missed that part of leisure. Breakfast was surprisingly nice, considering the hotel star rating, and the covid measures (we experienced with our other stays, where the breakfast was packed-to-go). They even have the waffle making device, so you can make your own fresh waffles right at the spot - imagine how kids were happy. Parking is convenient, right near the building, and there are enough entrances so you can easily get stuff in and out of the car when coming or leaving. This is especially important in the winter, as we experienced first hand. It is also lit and the area seems to be safe. Staff is very nice and attentive. We don't consider ourselves a "high maintenance" guests, but for every question or additional request we had, the staff was ready to provide information or assistance promptly. I also have to commend the management for helping us recovering the "lost item". Namely we ordered a package to be delivered to us while we stayed there, and it arrived late when we were already gone. The manager made sure we get the package sent to our home address, so THANKS...
