The ONLY reason why I am giving this location a 5 star rating is because of the impeccable customer service provided by JONATHAN, the front desk associate working the night my children and I flew back in from our vacation. I am a single mother who was traveling with two small children alone, as well as a loyal Wyndham member who chose to use my reward points to stay at this hotel the night before our flight left so my children and I were well rested and assured to be at the airport on time (it was a 4 hour drive to the airport from our home). Based upon our initial stay, this location would have gotten a 1 or 0 rating had it been an option. Upon our arrival, my children and I were overwhelmed by the smell of marijuana smoke at the door and front entrance. My oldest child is allergic. We chose not to complain. I asked the front desk if it was possible for us to get a late checkout being our flight did not leave until 4:40 the next day. The time I had requested the shuttle was for 1:00 pm, which was a 2 hour extension after the 11 am checkout. Initially we were told that in addition to the cost of the room and the $100 incident fee (which still has yet to be returned to my account 11 days later), we would have to pay another $50 dollars to have the room for an additional two hours. When I told them that seemed a bit excessive being I payed only $20 more than that for the room as a Wyndham member for an entire night, the gal working told me that she'd make an acception provided we were out by 1:00 pm. We were very grateful. My children and I noticed that the hallways smelled strongly of marijuana on our way to our room. Once again, we chose not to complain. We went to use the pool to relax after our long drive only to discover the hot tub was barricaded off by boards and clearly out of service. We again chose not to complain. The beds were comfortable and we slept well.We went down, as promised, to prepare to board our shuttle at 1 pm. The individual working at the front desk began to scold us for our "late checkout time", reminding us it had been at 11 am. He said there would be an additional $50 charge for this. I explained that we had made arrangements the evening before. He began to vent about how the employee working did this with several guests and should not have because housekeeping only worked until 2 pm.. Therefore this was now apparently a giant inconvenience to them. They did not charge us the $50 fee, but failed to inform us of the daily parking fee prior to boarding their shuttle due to what I assume was because that time was spent sharing their upset feelings/concerns regarding their poor staff communication issues with me instead. The shuttle trip and driver were wonderful to the airport and we were off without issues. Our return, however, was another story. Our flight landed at 10:30 pm central time. My children and I had not planned to stay overnight in Minneapolis and planned to drive 4 hours home, but the hotel and driver sent us to be picked up in an area where the Airport was under construction, different from the location airport security directed us to go AND where the initial shuttle driver who brought us said to go when we returned. I was told the shuttle driver was having trouble finding us. I waited over an hour with my children sleeping outside the airport, in the dark, on a bench for over an hour. The hotel rep promised he was coming and to continue to wait. It was not until shift change when Jonathan came on that we learned the shuttle driver has chose to leave us there. Johnathan immediately dispatched a different driver and did everything in his power to get us back. He had the driver personally escort us to him where he provided impeccable customer service to my children and I to make up for the inconvenience. I planned to go to another hotel since it was past midnight at that point. Because of Jonathan's wonderful customer service, we chose to stay at this location again and would recommend it. Thank you JONATHAN for being our...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel at the end of July to August. 5 days. 2025. We were visiting the Mall of America. I will never stay at this hotel ever again! When I come back to the Mall of America next year, I am going in the opposite direction! The issues were totally unbelievable. The room was poorly maintained. The phone was totally unusable, the push buttons were missing and/or damaged, If I needed to dial out, I could not, there was not a brochure in the room, the phone was so badly damaged, I could not tell what buttons to push. If it was left up to me, I would have snatched the cord out the phone line in the wall and threw the phone in the trash! The exhaust fan in the bathroom did not work. I had to get under the sink, lay a towel down first, to push the stopper up in the sink up, more than once, during my stay. This was ridiculous! The microwave and refrigerator was in a cabinet and the front door of the cabinet was missing. The towels were hard. The ice machines weren't working on many floors. I had to go up to the 12the floor daily, I was on 6. The pool and fitness room looked unclean and unsanitary. As far as the breakfast, some days there were sausage and bacon, some days it was not. The hotel market was poorly stocked. I could not get towels late evening when I needed them. The furniture was chipped, even the flooring in the elevators. The first room we had, there were no shelves in the refrigerator, so we were transferred to another room. The first room did not have the strip going down the middle of the bed spread, the second room did. The refrigerator needed defrosting, the refrigerator actually froze some of my food, temps to high and too much ice in the compartment. The room was clean, bedding was clean and the beds were comfortable, the bathroom was clean, it was ok. The pillows were fair, sort of flat. There were trial size toiletries, no hand soap in the rooms. Last year I stayed at their other La Quinta on Nicolette, it was a dump, my girlfriend reserved it, not knowing, we just stayed their and dealt with the conditions. I suppose the two are under the same management, they both have similarities, on the scale of 1-5, it was a 2.
This La Quinta was given benefit of the doubt. There were just too many issues. There were just regular channels on Dish Network. This hotel collects the money for reservations, but don't invest in the up keep as they should. I like to enjoy hotel stays but in this instance it was not possible, I was never able to put my swim wear and workout clothing to good use, due to the conditions, too much bacteria and germs in plain site! No need to complain to the front desk for 5 days, nothing would have been resolved, to many issues. I complained in my room frequently. Nothing would have been done in the first place, these issues should have been corrected before arrival, I am sure in all of the rooms, which I am sure they had defaults. These issues give La Quinta's a bad reputation. All of these issues were very unacceptable! Another customer was complaining in the lobby as well about something different. None of this makes no sense at all! I have stayed in a absolute beautiful La Quinta but this was not one of them. I even had to visit a nearby hotel for breakfast daily. Some settle with these issues, I am not a person that does. This was very very unacceptable! I hope the hotel does better in the future for their customers. We are paying customers that...

Faded, dilapidated and minimum effort. Decent value of money, “pet friendly”means extra charges per day. Seems current owners are not interested in updating anything, except where absolutely needed and cheapest possible.
Longer version:
We had to come to MN for two days for business. Since we almost exclusively stay at LQ due to their general cleanliness and “pet friendly” status. Plus, Wyndham owns them, so general speaking- there are certain quality guidelines they must follow.
This was NOT the case here.
From the little things, like the outlets being so old and worn, a charger wouldn’t even firmly stay plugged in, and it resulted in not being able to charge phones or iPads. (See picture)
We found work around by plugging them into the outlets? in the tiny microwave.
Layers of dirt and dust in corners, and layers of paint on the walls that were cracked or so thick they split.
The AC/Heat units were easily 20 years old, and while you think you can set the temps, you can’t. It’s remotely controlled from elsewhere. If you don’t believe me, turn the unit off, and it will still kick on by itself to heat or cool according to the parameters set remotely.
To give you are clear picture, imagine a really nice but small hotel room from 10 years ago, and then imagine nothing replaced or updated , but worn out and painted over.
It’s like the current ownership bought a dying hotel and is attempting to eke out every last drop of revenue at the cost of “savings”.
This is usually where i would say “well the price charged should have indicated quality,” But I will tell you that it was not worth the $75 a night plus $50 per night for the “pet friendly” fee.
The bathroom exhaust fans do not work which allows the humidity and steam to layer in on every surface and just…stay there. There is a sticky slimy layer to every surface and random long hairs up high everywhere which tells me the same cleaning towels used for the showers or sinks are used on the walls.
All that said:
I am a small business owner and I truly understand the value of money. I try to be frugal and find value before spending.
But, after this experience, I would have happily paid another $200.00 for our two night stay to not experience this again, and we will do so next time.
Also- do not try to pay cash for their highly marked up cost snacks at the front desk, you would assume you would at least get cold drinks and snacks that don’t look like they have been repeatedly crumpled or left out.
Capitalism is boss, and if you don’t like the prices, don’t buy it. But I would hope onerous get drinks that weren’t lukewarm and crumpled snacks for the price.
Speaking of, they refuse to take cash for the snacks, and they won’t let you add them to your room charges to settle at the end of your stay. We are talking about $14.00 here, when they have taken a $100.00 deposit on top of all the other fees and charges, on top of the room rates.
“Bloody boomer” is the response some of you have, because you have no concept of life or reality. You are not the target for this, nor do I care about educating your mentality.
I am including pictures of the stuff mentioned above, because anyone can write bad things online, I do try to...
