In terms of management, the "manager" named "Scotty" provided the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. The manager of this restaurant is unprofessional, inappropriate, rude, strange, eccentric, and makes the guests and the staff uncomfortable. He probably needs professional help and I really hope the company helps him to become healthy and recover from whatever is ailing him mentally.
We had a very large group dinner /business seminar at this restaurant on November 9, 2023. By way of background, we called the restaurant several days in advance to book a party of 20 for a med / legal seminar. Our guests were all surgeons, lawyers and doctors from the Bay Area and Southern California. Some of our guests flew from LA and drove for hours to be at this dinner. We called the restaurant at least 5 times throughout the week before the dinner to confirm the reservation because the restaurant management seemed confused.
Upon arrival, we were "greeted" by manager "Scotty." He said "You aren't on the reservation list." He then pulled out an ipad tablet, showed it to me (like that was supposed to help) and said "I have been working here 8 years and I would know if you made a reservation, and you are not on our list." I explained that we had been calling all week and that there were 20 guests coming, and that this was a conference. He then wandered off, and about 5 minutes later, he came back and said "Oh I guess we are having problems with our computer system, I found the reservation." Keep in mind the restaurant only had like 2 tables occupied, which is odd. This is normally a very busy restaurant, and it was a Thursday night, with the next day being Veterans day. So in other words, the place should have been packed. I believe this restaurant is struggling because the management is awful.
Buca di Beppo has a full bar. As we were waiting for guests to arrive, several of our guests began to gather in the bar and order drinks. "Scotty" did not like this because he wanted to pace around in the bar unobstructed in a way that resembled a zombie in The Walking Dead tv show. At one point he said "you can all go in your banquet room and we will serve you." We had a large group, and many of our guests had not arrived, so we stayed in the bar and socialized
Scotty continued to make all of the guests uncomfortable because he kept walking up very close to the guests and pacing around like he was nervous and irritated that we would not leave the bar. After pacing in and out of the bar about 20 times, he walked up to our group and said "Can you please not walk up to the bar and order drinks from the bartender?" I asked him to explain. He said he thought it was rude and disrespectful for guests to walk up and order drinks from the bartender. He clearly did not want us in the bar, and probably did not even want us in the restaurant. After a long argument, he said "I'm not going to sit here and listen to you, you know where the front door is, and you can leave." As I was talking to Scotty, I noticed he seemed very nervous, sweaty, fidgety, and seemed to be anxious and uncomfortable. His skin looked pasty and his eyes were watery and bloodshot.
After Scotty left the room, our guests spoke to all of the waiters and food servers in the restaurant and asked what was wrong with Scotty. The staff told us that Scotty was a very disrespectful and unfriendly manager. The workers feared him. The staff begged us to write a Yelp and Google review because the said the owners of the restaurant would not fix the dreadful management. Basically, Scotty is a rogue employee who is single handedly sinking this ship, and doing a pretty good job at it. The employees are scared of him. He is belligerent, rude, and just bizarre. On the plus side, our food servers were incredible. The food was not bad and the drinks were delicious. Our guests hugged the staff when we left because we all shared the common bond of being traumatized by the manager. The bad news is we spent $1,500 to get yelled at by...
Read moreLunch at Bucca, Campbell was worst experience EVER... Went w/ hubbie for his birthday and our son. We're not complainers and after 30 yrs of marriage, never once has hubbie returned food. The brussel sprouts were deep fried and burnt and unediblet! The mgr. (Carl) actually said he doesn't even like them. OK, we are happy people and bypassed the lousy service and after spending $125.00 (incl. $35.00 pizza to go)... I received an email from OpenTable as soon we got home saying that they would appreciate next time we can't make reservation to please cancel... So I contacted them and they corrected it... Even after making reservations a week prior by phone and the internet, The hostess marked us as a "no show"...Really? $125.00 no shows? Here's the real scoop... When we arrived, yeah the hostess was a lil bewildered and made us wait while she checked our res.... It was Sunday at 12:45 and they weren't even busy! We were seated way in the back, I mean like "nosebleed section" lol, (we were wondering if it was because our son is in a wheelchair?)... And our waiter, Romeo, "finally" came around and it took him at least 15 minutes to get my wine and water (jokingly I asked him if he had to go out back and stomp the grapes)! More complaints: Had to get up to ask for more water; parmesan ( not fresh btw); pepper flakes; and bill... at least 4 times, when the waiter finally came around, hubbie commented that he "waiter" must be running the whole restaurant and waiter said no just this section... Well there were only three tables with customers and one had left 30 minutes prior and the messy table was not cleaned the whole entire time (in my view). When I called the manager after reading the email, he said we were happy when we left, and I told him it's my husbands birthday and I wanted to leave on a positive note... said goodbye and thank you! Because we are good business people, well mannered and respectable in the business and social community Oh, one other thing, because I'm a diabetic, I wanted a meatball, which states on the menu $8.00 each and waiter told me I had to buy 3... He was...
Read moreBuca di Beppo at 1875 S Bascom Ave, Campbell, CA 95008 is a really nice family Italian restaurant chain that is decorated with pictures, themed rooms and comfortable booths and tables/chairs. The restaurant was very clean providing a great eating environment.
My group of seven arrived at 11:30 AM, on a Saturday, per our reservation. The table was ready and our server TAMARA made sure we were taken care of with beverages and warm fresh bread and butter.
We started with Warm Tomato & Spinach Salad-spinach, tomatoes, red onion tossed in a warmed balsamic vinaigrette & topped with spiced candied pecans & feta.
Entreés
Rigatoni Positano-rigatoni loaded with eggplant chicken, fresh mozzarella, homemade marinara & fresh basil.
Fettuccine Supremo (My Favorite)- classic fettuccine alfredo tossed with chicken, broccoli & red bell peppers. topped with grated Parmesan. They kindly swapped out the creamy cheese sauce for a creamy pesto - more to our tastes.
Prosciutto Stuffed Chicken-stuffed with mozzarella & prosciutto, served with homemade marinara & pesto cream sauce
Dessert Strawberry Shortcake (Huge Portion) homemade strawberry shortcake for the entire family to share!
TAMARA made sure she provided Superior Service to everyone by working as a team with other employees. When the food was ready, two other employees came with her to deliver it. She would often check with us to make sure everything was fine. 5 Stars for service!
I tried everything and have no complaints-really excellent food with leftovers to take home.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant. Please ALSO check my 5 Star...
